Congrats on a great closet purge. I also did an unexpected one this weekend and got a construction garbage bag full of stuff.
My closet was not organized as my hubbie has kindly been putting the laundry away and just uses any empty hanger. I had mine sorted my colour but now have gone to item type. All my long sleeve toppers, long sleeve t's, etc in a row. Very easy to see when something is out of order and that is how I get dressed anyway. We'll see how it works.
Killarney was my most favourite place in Ireland! Good luck with your packing. I was surprised last August when I wore my thick boiled wool blazer every single day or at least part of it. Interesting climate for sure.

Tracey, Dublin felt much warmer and I wondered if I'd brought the wrong stuff. Plan for some warmer but not hot temps too. On my feet I lived in my boots. Women dress up a bit in the evening going out to the pubs and dinner. A skirt or dressy top is a good idea. I wore my dressiest top a lot. I saw lots of statement necklaces to add bling to jersey tops. There are lots and lots of tourists, mostly from the US and Germany. Men tend to be in button downs and pullover sweaters.

Thanks ladies!
Joy,
I had planned on taking fleece lined tights for layering and even bougt a lined trench from Eddie Bauer like the one my DD just bought( in a different color to pass on to her when I am done) and it is super warm! Will take lots of sweaters and jackets, scarves and such...I bought the Eagle Creek packing folders you mentioned to help the process...They do fit a lot and are great!!!
Joy, thanks for the heads up... From what I've read , May and October have similar temps...

Great work on the purging. Like you, I do my biggest edit at the change of seasons. Summer lasts until about the end if September. I don't know what the weather is like in Ireland in the fall, but it is nearly the end of May and I have been wearing layers of long underwear, long sleeved tee, sweater, down jacket and trench with a scarf and gloves and wool cap or a close variation the last three days to keep warm enough in Killarney. Did I mention tights, then wool socks, then lined suede short boots? You may want to inspect your fall/winter things. Before leaving Ireland I am purging a pair of pants, a pair of shoes, and some tights and underwear from my travel clothes as no longer acceptable for one reason or another.

Congratulations! Your closet must be looking like mine. I did a big purge this weekend too and am feeling fairly happy with my closet. It is a medium sized walk in closet and right now all my winter/fall and spring/summer clothes are in there (except off course puffers). But the hubby's side still looks messy, although he does not have nearly half as many clothes as I do.

Congrats on a successful closet purge. And it sounds like your style has shifted and you are moving forward with letting go of items that no longer work for your new style, that's a great move!

I salute you in your efforts to closet purge. I find it freeing and so healthy for my spirit. I do it on the regular. As a matter of fact I spent today doing a purge. I try on everything as if to say goodbye to an article of clothing.

Congratulations Tracey! You should feel great about all you've purged today.
I have three bags sitting on my closet floor right now - one is mostly shoes. I have a hard time letting shoes go. The rest is clothes that are too big or small, don't go with anything, or just aren't part of my slowly forming plan. My DH won't part with any of his clothes either. He still has a pair of two-toned camel/navy doubleknit pants he wore in hgh school in the 1960s. And he has more than 90 ties. There were 78 8 years ago, but I haven't counted since. He's acquired more in the interval, so who knows. He won't part with any of them.

So today, I didn't get dressed, wore huge t-shirt and swim shorts to dig and do a closet purge as well as to better organize Summer clothes... I love doing this as I literally put my hands on every item... I came up with two full tall kitchen size garbage bags of items to donate and about another 8 peices to sell on ebay (mostly jackets..)

This was all warm weather items as I have already packed away winter... My plan is to go back and do another purge at the end of the season before packing up and taking out Fall... I think this is going to become a tradition, purging before and after each season.

The biggest thing I got a kick out of was purging all the short sleeve button up blouses I was holding on to...I've always worn toppers over tank tops and used short sleeved blouses that had princess tailored seams , but have hence given that look up completely.. Now i much prefer Kimonos, knitted boleros, vests and even short sleeve or 3/4 sleeve sweaters (needed for frigid AC) I am not much of a button up blouse woman any more, though do like it better in winter for layering...

I look forward to seeing what happens at the end of the season and how much more I can let go of...Hoping to be brutal! I am never going to be a minimalist, but do want to only keep things that I really love to create a versatile mix and match style.

I do worry about being succesful at the end of the season when I do the changeover to Fall because we have warmer temps through September and will be leaving for the two week trip to Ireland in early October...May have to wait to do when I return...At least I will have two weeks of Fall with me to get me started...

Now if I only I can convince DH to purge his side of the closet.... He has worn a uniform of sorts for the past 8 years and really does need to update warm weather work appropriate shirts..
