It's great to know where you stand, wardrobe wise, at least. Now you can make informed shopping decisions. Get those small alterations done quickly! And don't hand on to ill fitting clothes too long, they just make you feel bad. Great Spring clean out!

They are pretty minor alterations, like a hem that needs fixing and a pair of chinos that fit everywhere except the back of the waist. I've been slowly teaching myself to sew, so I am tackling these things myself (with a lot of help from Mr. Seamripper!).

It does seem to get easier over time to get rid of things that I have held onto. At least in sorting them by size I was able to put all the stuff that I'm really not likely to be able to fit into again in one giant suitcase, separate from those that I can actually fit into, but only if I hold my breath. ;-) I'm thinking about setting some kind of deadline and making an actual plan to improve my fitness, and if I don't go looking for anything in that giant suitcase by that time, auctioning the whole thing as a mystery package.
Congratualtions on your purge!

Do you do the alterations yourself or do you have a tailor do them?

I really need to start considering my spring/summer clothes. They are all tucked away and waiting to come out. But, I am waiting for the weather to decide to send a little spring our way!

It is too hard for my brain to consider the swealtering days of July when we had to remove snow from our driveway this weekend!

I feel inspired by you, Mander! And am intrigued by this idea of a "starter kit."

I should do this again with my summer stuff. I really need very little, but have a lot.

Inspiration! Just what I need, a push in the right direction! Thanks for the great link and applause for the big step you took. I have no problem tossing things for size, but I seem to be attached to things and cannot get rid of them for some unexpicable reason,,,,so I put them in holding at the BF house (he does not know that) and when a suitable time has passed, they are so much easier to give up! Why? I have no idea.

That sounds like a great plan. I just "shopped my closet" for t-shirts - I was trying to buy some bright t-shirts to layer under a sheath dress, then remembered that I might have some old t-shirts in the back of the closet. I ended up putting some on the hanger to wear often and throwing out those that were too worn out. Good luck!

Congrats on the purge. I think it is wise to hold the items you love even if the size is not correct at the moment. You can revisit those later. I like the starter kit idea - thanks for posting that link

Good for you! What a huge realization. I find summer clothes need renewal more often because of the frequent washes. Maybe after a little fresh injection it will be easier to part with ill-fitting yet loved items.

Yesterday I got a wild hair, as my grandpa would say, to purge my closet of a few things. In the process I decided to drag out my two big suitcases full of summer clothes and things that are too small.

Ideally I would just get rid of everything that doesn't fit but I can't bring myself to do that yet. However, I did put several things on the donate pile. I sorted what was left by size and put everything that is just a little bit too small into one easily-accessible place. I have also resolved to toss some of my old summer standbys after this year.

This was in part prompted by the "starter kit" shopping list at Putting Me Together. In comparing the suggestions to what I have in my closet, I realized that although it is stuffed full I don't actually have very much versatility -- I mostly have things that I can wear with jeans, and at the moment, I only have two pairs of jeans that fit well. There were many things in the closet that could work with minor alterations, but right now they are really just in the way.

So, now I'm going to try a little "SYC" with this shopping list, and see if I can find things in the closet to fill the gaps. And I'd better get busy with my alterations!
