What a great closet! I like the double racks, nice way to fit more items in one spot.

The shelves are all up and I have organized a few shelves. I am heading out to get the shoe boxes and more black velvet hangers but took a few preliminary pics.

Left side has ikea expedit as cubbies and back and right with rubbermaid closet organizers. More to follow...

Corners can be big space wasters in small closets. Corner shelving units can help make the most of the space. Also, I love my valet rods/hooks for temporarily holding drycleaning, packing planning or tomorrow's outfit.

Wow! Hope you take pictures when you're done. I have no advice: both of my closets are reach-in. But I'm pretty sure I have the same shelves from Ikea as my book case (mine's 5 x 5 squares), and I really love them.

Echoing Suz! I don't have anything to add, but your plans sound very well thought out and your closet sounds wonderful. I hope you'll post some photos too....I'm always so overwhelmed wandering through all of the options at IKEA. Hoping others who've redone closets will chime in too. I moved recently and now have a very large closet with only standard rods/shelving built in, so I'm hoping for some inspiration to one day do the same!

One of the last items on the to do list for the new house was my walk in closet. When designing the house, we had expanded the space as much as we could without adding more piles to the structure and I had to decide between using space in the ensuite or the WIC. The ensuite won out as we wanted to put in a 6' jetted drop-in tub. The result was a closet that is 5' x 7' with a door in the middle of one short end that opened into the closet blocking half of one wall. It looked okay on paper but then got a few inches smaller during construction (walls are approximate on plans).

The size wasn't helped by the typical builder shelving which is minimal. Yesterday, we put together the expedit from Ikea and installed it against the ceiling on one of the 5' walls (horizontally). The top row of cubbies is already stocked with bags and the bottom row has jeans, sweaters, and will soon have workout gear. We bought a very heavy metal bar and put it across the full width. I ordered a hanging second bar so I can make a 2' section with short double bars and use the full height one for dresses only.

This morning, the rubbermaid titanium shelving/rod systems are being installed on the other two walls. I will have one continuous shelf along the two walls and double hanging rods that can easily be varied for different sized clothes. I should end up with at least an extra 8' of rod space.

Later today, I am going to go pick up at least 20 clear plastic stackable tubs that are shoe size and put the shoes that rarely get worn on the top shelf. Inexpensive tension rods near the floor will be added for shoes and robe hooks just inside the door.

Last up is the replacement of the regular door with a matching bifold door so the entire perimeter is easily accessible.

The total cost should come in around $500 but it should make the space much more usable.

Anyone have any other good ideas for improving a small walk in closet?
