This may not be an answer you're looking for, but maybe try combo hangers with clips on the bottom and just clip up the hems of the dresses so they can fit on the short bar? http://www.thehangerdepot.com/....._Clips.htm

I wish I could use other closets! Unfortunately, my husband is a bit of a hoarder, so the rest of our closets are all occupied :). I'm going to go ahead and see if I can move the lower bar. That would be the easiest thing to do, but I'll have to pare down my clothing a bit. Thanks all!

I have a similar, double-bar arrangement (which can be seen here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-thread-1 ) and I do keep my dresses in another closet with a full-height rod.

It works for me because I don't have a lot of dresses and because I don't wear dresses daily. But I've had to be creative with storage because the closet situation in my house is odd: minimal closet space (and no linen closet) on the first floor, where I need it, and plenty on the second floor, where my son does not need it.

I would move the top bar up and the bottom bar down a little bit. However the bars are supported they should already be in the studs.

I have a small walk-in in a rental. The only bar was set at about six feet which was horribly inefficient. We moved the bar up a lot, it actually made the shelf above more useable and I have a lower bar that runs about half way.

Is there another closet in the house that you can use for full length items?

I know it's just a rental but it may be worth it to invest in a rubbermaid closet organizer if you are going to be staying there for a while.

Something like this could go a long way to making your life easier:

I can totally look to see if it'll come off! But, honestly, I'd like to keep the bar, because I do use it to hang smaller items.

Hi and welcome!
This sounds tricky! I don't have any ideas - it sounds annoying. Can you unscrew the lower rail? They sometimes attach to the wall into a fitting that has a couple of screws. Or do you know someone handy that might help you to undo it if it's not obvious. Provided you put it back before you leave I would have thought it would be ok...?

Hi all! This is my very first post, but am always encouraged by the kind words on this forum. I am currently renting a condo, which has rails and storage already built into the clothing closets. The rails are unfortunately placed for a woman's wardrobe! There are two bars, one about 6 feet high, and the second about three feet high, directly below. I do not know how to hang my dresses and long skirts in this closet (currently, I have them hanging from the top bar and draping out and over the bottom rung), or keep my shoes from being hidden underneath the clothing hanging from the bottom bar. Any wisdom about how to better hang or access the clothing from my closet? Thanks to any ideas!
