I have a holding zone, and I do find it really helpful.

I have everything hang on a single bar in the closet (with a single shelf above) , but I really like the idea of having a double row of hanging storage and doing tops over bottoms. Part of my problem is that with a long closet, everything that isn't right in the center gets ignored / forgotten about.

Thank you!

A holding zone might make it easier to see how your closet is working for you. Put the items you don't think you need or want in the holding zone. When you identify a wardrobe hole, check your holding zone to see if the missing item is there. If so, you can move it into your wardrobe.

Oh another idea: pull together a small capsule that can get you through oh say a month...and then see what you wear and what you went digging for to add to the capsule...

I take photos to see how an outfit works, but not so much to remember. I've organized my closet instead like geranimals: tops on a shelf above bottoms. My office wear is all hung, but still it's tops over bottoms/suits. I pick something from each stack. When I can't - that's an orphan.

Some folks use a spreadsheet and others an app. Or the YLF Finds/collections feature.

Yes! How to keep track of outfits and capsules is exactly what I am trying to figure out! How do you store / manage the photos of the outfits / capsules?

I think I probably have a few too many clothes, but I don't have a good feel for what I'm actually not wearing and when I've purged my closet in the past, I've gotten rid of things I don't wear often (but was keeping for a specific purpose) and I ended up repurchasing replacements in a panic and then nit rrally liking them very much. The purge / panic / repurchase / don't really like it is a cycle I'm trying to get out of.

So, before I try to get rid of anything, I want to figure out a way to identify what I actually like / wear and which items work with other items and which ones are "orphans ".

It sounds like part of your question is about how to keep track of outfits or capsules. I usually take photos to remind me of the outfits in a capsule. I hang different capsules in different parts of my closet (work clothes, casual clothes, etc.) There's some overlap, but for me, not too much.

Also ... do you have too many clothes for your personal comfort level? Sometimes we just have too many items and we get overwhelmed trying to organize and keep track of them all.

I have three major categories and then separate by type (tops, pants, skirts, etc.) My categories are office, bakery, and 'at home.' Ok, I also have dress up and coats.

It's true, some things that can do double duty get forgotten in the moment. I go in periodically to just have a look around. I also pull mini capsules to work with for awhile. But fashion is big entertainment for me.

Hello everyone!

I am really curious how people organize / store their clothing. I love the activity capsule concept, but I find that since a single item of clothing may end up in more than one capsule, I have a hard time knowing what I actually have. As a result, I end up wearing the same few things over and over and it feels like I don't have anything to wear.

I currently keep all of the similar articles together - dress pants, skirts, work tops, casual tops etc - and everything hangs or is folded on shelves (I have a lovely large closet).

I would love to hear how other people store and organize their clothes.

Thanks!
