Oh, wow, Lisa, thank you so much for the huggable hangers link! I am totally going to try these out - my closets are completely challenging as they are super cramped and shallow, and I am forced to sometimes use smaller children's hangers, from which my clothes tend to fall off.

My closet tips:
For skirts and pants, I like the multi-tier hangers like this (although I like ones without clips for pants):
http://www.amazon.com/Trouser-.....038;sr=8-1

Also, if the closet doors are not sliding doors but regular ones, make sure you use the space on the back of the door! I have over the door racks with hooks and things for hanging scarves and belts.

Check out the rubbermaid shelving available at many big box stores, they can often be customized to fit small closets and are reasonable in price. I got wire shelving from a smaller retailer that is identical to the rubbermaid wire shelving (but it can be cut to custom fit closets, esp. since our's are for a 1950s bungalow small closets). It cost about $100 per closet but I have 2 feet of double hang, 2 feet of shelving and 2 feet of single hang with an extra storage shelf -- and I think this is the best organizing-sanity investment I made.

Sorry the only advice I have is huggable hangers. They really let me fit more in the same space due to the streamlined design.

Has anyone had luck with closet systems or closet design tools? If you have any favorite or recommended closet tricks or features, I would love to hear them. My closet is tiny and I knew I would need a redo at some point. One of my hanging rods collapsed this weekend. I'm going to take this opportunity to redo the whole thing.
It is a small walk in closet about 50"x72" and 90" celings, so there is not much space to work with. There is also a small non-operational window on one wall that I am considering closing. I hate the idea of light getting into my closet and fading my clothes. It is above the garage in a part of the house that is not actually visible from the street at any angle, so it wouldn't ruin the look of the house to block it.
