I have to recommend cropped jeans, they are my replacement for shorts in summer and great with boots in cooler weather. it is nice to find another jean style to add to my jeans capsule. I also had a laugh at the VBC comment. I remember trying on some jeans in a very trendy store and the jeans were so low rise that when I sat down they slid off my backside and so I told the sales assistant that they were not for me. I remember her telling me that they weren't designed to wear when sitting down, that they would be fine if I stayed standing up!

Sounds like an amazing collection of jeans! I only wear jeans to work on Fridays and weekends so don't need a lot. I'd love to see how you wear them.

Your jean capsule sounds enviable. I rarely wore jeans for a host of reasons. I recently changed my mind and decided I wanted to build a jean capsule. I like your process. I'll follow along with you as you present future WIWs.

Staysfit you certainly have a great collection of jeans and trousers. I have stayed away from cropped because I find the footwear so challenging so I am not sure what to recommend in that department. I do wonder how practical cropped pants are for wintery climates.
I am also much happier with mid to high rise jeans.
I agree with Tanya that wide legged cropped might be a great look on you. Something like Angie's R & B jeans.

I'm much happier with a mid to high rise. My DD grew up with low rise jeans in full force. It has been very difficult for her to switch to a higher rise although it makes me much happier to see her wear them. No more VBC! (Visible Butt Crack!). The big teenage mother daughter conflict in our home. We went way beyond VPL! To this day she denies it was ever an issue!

Wow, I would love to see your capsule modeled, Staysfit. I don't feel like I've seen most of these on your WIWs. Sounds like the perfect balance of styles. A pair of denim trousers feels like a unicorn...I have a very old pair that I love, but will admit that the low rise isn't good on me so they are only worn with the right top. So, I'm always on the lookout for the perfect replacement...

I bet you would look great in those cropped wide legs -- they suit straighter figures so well.

Wow! I am all about jeans! My fall/winter uniform is skinny/straight leg jeans, a sweater, a scarf or necklace, awesome shoes or boots, earrings, my watch and bangles. I wear dresses and skirts also but much less frequently once the weather gets cold. I might only wear a dress to work two days a week in the winter. In the spring and summer I try to wear them almost every day, but denim shorts work too.

I need to go back and look at my WIW's! I don't think I have been posting many of my everyday outfits. I am often very happy with what I'm wearing, and I rarely have time in the morning to snap a picture before I scramble out the door. I'm mostly posting when I have a targeted concern. Perhaps I should rethink this?

True denim story: A number of years ago, I went to interview for a position. I grumbled that I needed to wear a skirt for the interview. I was very clear with the administration that the interview was the one and only time they would see me dressed formally. If they hired me, I would be wearing jeans to work! I was hired. It was gutsy, but I wasn't about to change my wardrobe for a new job, I had enough going on. I should mention that my 3 week old DS was in tow! They hired me. It's almost exactly 18 years later, I still work there, and no one has even once commented on my wearing jeans except to complement me on my outfit.

I have a fabulous dress capsule. I worked hard to round it out this past year as another way of adding variety to my closet. I love wearing dresses and wanted to wear them more frequently, possibly to make my style dressier. I built a special occasion capsule because I had multiple special occassions including both my children's graduations and a Bar Mitzvah. I needed something appropriate for funerals. (Too many of those.) I think I focussed so much on my dress shopping posts that people forgot, or didn't realize I have denim coursing through my veins! :-)

I will work to remedy this once the weather turns cool enough!

Do we see you much in jeans? I feel like I haven't seen many denim outfits on you. I have maybe 20 pairs and I have a hard time wearing them all. Sounds like you are all set to me and should continue your policy of keeping old faves and rotating trends!

You have done marvelous job with your jeans/pants in these two years, Staysfit. Your jean capsule sounds pretty complete to me. I personally plan to keep wearing my full length skinnies with interesting colors/features, by styling them with current shoes and tops. Also, you can wear cropped jeans long into the fall if you style them with higher shaft booties, like you did with your beautiful cropped sailor pants.

Would you consider trying wider cropped jean style, like Angie's gorgeous R&B pair she got for her birthday? Those are lots of fun. I also always find it fun to have some kind of trouser in menswear pattern in the fall, and pinstripes seem to be really trending now.

Finally, I love those jeans in your Finds, I have always had a weakness for pin-tucking or stitching down the middle of a pant leg.

Two years ago, when I joined the YLF forum, I basically had two types of jeans. J Crew Matchstick jeans and J Crew Toothpick jeans. My total numbers were over 40. They were all the same uniform blue wash or white. I didn't own a single pair of nice trousers/slacks. I have been slowly culling pairs of these two jeans styles from my closet as they wear out. I have been adding trendier styles to update my looks and add variety. My favorite addition has been high rise skinny jeans. I adore them. I have three pairs, all different. I also added a pair of high rise flares. My version of flares is less flared than many. It took a while to find some I liked. I just added two more pairs of high rise flares, bringing the total to three. This summer, a big surprise for me was how much I enjoyed the J Crew Billie Boot Crop Jean. It has a high rise and despite being called a boot, it looks straight to me. I liked it so much, I purchased it in three colors. It has been my go to when I'm in an a/c space. For fall I purchased only three pairs of jeans to replace some that had worn out last year. One is a cropped flare with a released hem. It's a very different look for me. The other two are the flares already mentioned. I have some grey ombré jeans that I added at the end of last year. I have two well worn AG Nikki's also grey that I think may have another season left. I have an assortment of jeans that have an interesting color or feature, but they are all long skinny style. I purchased two pairs of Maddie pants last year. This year for fall I purchased a pair of cropped wool sailor pants and a pair of Boss trousers. I particularly love the way the trousers look. I can see adding more of something like them, but I don't want to deal with dry cleaning. Maybe a trouser style Jean?! I have a pair of cropped trousers from Max Mara that goes with a jacket (NAS purchase). I'm still deciding if I should keep them.

My overall jeans numbers have come down as the variety has increased. I have 34. It looks like slightly more than half are for fall/winter, and the rest are for spring/summer, so they are not all active at the same time. I have been good at sticking to a one in one out policy with my jeans, sometimes eliminating two for one. I have been somewhat reluctant to follow the cropped jeans and pants trend because I worry this might be impractical where I live more than half of the year. I'm not sure if I should hunt for some wide leg pants or trouser jeans to round out my capsule? Are there any styles I should consider trying? Maybe cargo pants or example?

Note: I tried Amo twist seam/zip crops but ended up returning them. I felt the look of the denim was too RATE for my workplace. It had distressing. If you have narrow calves and a straight figure, these could be fun for someone.
