Minimal or sleek, okay, let's work with that! In this case all the short cropped jackets here are (8-9-10). I can still see 1 in minimal/sleek if paired with a very simple round collar tee in an unexpected solid colour. Maybe next time you shop for a jacket, look for this cut and style but in a darker shade?

6 looks more classic conservative than minimal.

Strangely, 7, which has more "frills" if you will, looks more sleek on you than 6! Maybe because 7 wouldn't require the rest of your attire to be as couture, it would flatter other ultra simple pieces, even athletic ones. Whereas 6 demands to be worn with something conservative.

2 and 4 don't look as sleek... because IMO of the soft fabric. The high closing on 2 commands a shirt, it would be interesting to see it with one. Out of the two I would keep 2 because its very fitted cut make it sleekier. But that is based only on my opinion.

Now 3... I like this on you but I do have to say the look is a bit dated esp. if you go for minimal, because then it will stand out even more.

Cinnamon, those words are fine. I meant that the words "simple" or "sophisticated" seemed like they could be applied to many styles. Many of these jackets are simple, and sophisticated. I think it would be helpful for you to find something more particularized, more specific even. I thought it was a good idea to remember your style direction during this purging process, I wanted to help you go further.

Suz, I didn't keep the sheath because every time I looked in the mirror I thought, this dress would be perfect if it didn't have that trim across the hips. You have a good memory!

There are two reasons for the purge. One is I'm running out of closet space, at least given my slightly OCD ideas on organization, so I should purge some if I'm going to buy spring clothes. The other is I have a bad habit of buying things that I like and I think look good on, but aren't really me. For instance, I like jacket #1, but I kind of feel like I'm dressing up as a Virginia gentleman in a seersucker suit. I am trying for a little more stylistic cohesion.

(The orange BR skirt from Angie's store is another instance of this, but I caught myself in time and returned it.)

And can I just say, you guys are all awesome?

I'd have to see the fabric on number one, but I like it more than #4, whose cut seems a bit dated to me (but what do I know?).

The rest are really fab, especially the new linen moto. I can't remember if you have a style descriptor. It has really been helping me to ask myself if a _____ would wear the item in question. Fill in the blank with your style descriptor or icon.

I love jackets! And I love your jackets.

Question: what are your reasons for the purge? Are there some YOU love less than others? What are your goals in reducing?

It's important to know, because if it's just a question of creating a set of jackets that don't overlap, that is one thing. If it's a quesion of moving you forward in a new style direction, that's another.

And I'm still curious about why you didn't keep the Ralph Lauren sheath!! What were your thoughts on it for yourself? (Hey...I think it would have looked awesome with the new litnen jacket...)

Not a lot of love for #4 here! It's at least 5 years old, but the one from the 90s is #3.

Krishni - am puzzled by your comment. Why are 'simple' and 'sophisticated' descriptions of occasions rather than styles? Eg, they both seem incompatible with boho whimsical to me.

I think #1 is blah as styled but with bright spring colors I think it would look great. It has a vintage feel that appeals to me quite a bit.
#4 looks to be the one from the 90s but think you should hang onto it because I think with proper styling, it would look terrific.
I would probably keep them all, as they all fit well and seem like each one is enough different to be just the right thing in a wardrobe.

This looks less like a case of "which jacket?" and more like a case of "which style direction?".

You're getting somewhere with your style goals:
"Modern, simple, sophisticated, casual?" this sounds more like occasion descriptors than style descriptors. Someone might be Boho whimsical, yet some days, simple, others, sophisticated.

It sounds there is more to it than just a closet purge on a Spring-like afternoon. I would ask you: What do you mean by "modern"? Look at images you are attracted to on the Internet.
Or look at a celebrity whose style you associate with. Then pay attention to what style of jacket she wears. Or maybe, ask yourself, if I had to keep one and only one, which one would it be? Which one are you most tempted to reach out for on a daily basis? And that can give you a lead.

To me, jackets 3, 5 and 8 are totally different departures, and would be hard to co-exist in the same reduced capsule wardrobe.

I actually quite like 1, contrary to others, on you, because of its proportions, and how it cinches your waist. It looks cool on you. And goes well with the pants' style. I think what throws people off here might be its pairing with a white top, you already being blond. Maybe with darker colours such as a purple, violet or periwinkle top? Or even taupe?

To me, 5 looks dated.

I don't like 4 on you, both for the hue and the cut. It looks too long, not form fitting enough and hides your athletic, proportioned figure. Sorry for being brutal.

7 looks cute, put together, but not with these pants. I'd see it with a skirt such as an A-line.

8-9-10 would be keeps.

Imo you should keep them all & try making some outfits that feel modern, simple, sophisticated & casual. Then wear them & see how you feel.

I've been doing this all summer & have realised wearing the outfit is the key - you will quickly decide what works & what doesn't.

FWIW I think you have a naturally sophisticated look:) I'd like to see #1 with a simple (silk?) tank & slim pants & #7 with a leather belt.

Thank you guys! I don't think there's really any duplication. 4 is thick velvet while 9 is linen, 5 is leather while 8 is thin cotton.

Outfit goals: I need some jackets that can be worn with dresses (8-10), some that can be worn with jeans, and some that can be worn with 'work clothes' (in my mind, that usually means pencil skirt or classic trousers). I work from home three days a week, so not too many in the last category.

Style goals: this is still hard for me. Modern, simple, sophisticated, casual? I have some trouble with 'sophisticated' though.

agree # 1 is blah.

But, for the others, a lot depends on what bottoms you intend to wear before I could say toss or not., vs. whether all these are jackets you would wear with the top and pants shown. So some of them might be perfect with a certain dress or skirt. " 6 is not as cheeky as #9 but might work for a more formal outfit. #10 looks too short and boxy for the pants in the photo, but might be perfect over a dress. # 7 with the belt doesn't do much for me but I've seen some good looks like that with dressy black pants.

So I'm no help!

Can you define your outfit and style goal needs a bit more?

Ten toppers should be more than enough for the season, but are any of these duplicates, and if they are, do you need that? I think I would start with deciding if any of these are redundant, and maybe figure out how many I need in total.

1 kinda stuck out as not as fab as the others. I really like the shorter jackets on you, 8-10. Am I right in thinking you have almost double in color in 4 &9 and same style but diff length in 5&8? Do you use both?

Since it feels like spring here today and I'm procrastinating on the paper I'm supposed to be writing, I am working on a spring/summer shopping list. First step: taking stock of what I already have. I'm starting with jackets. One is brand new, the oldest one is from the 90s. Should any of them go? Am I missing anything?
