Texstyle good luck with those sneakers! I am not a huge sneaker lover myself but if they were the only shoes that were comfortable I'd be right there too.

Looks like a great collection for F/W shoes - I agree that maybe a pair of furry lined sneaker booties might be a good option. I'm going to try these Rykas myself since I own a pair of their tennis shoes that work for me. White is a bright for me and I have a few white tops for F/W that I'd like to bookend.

My feet have been SO fussy lately - most of my sandals have been hurting after just 1/2 day on my feet. I've been doing yoga stretches to help but still it's really bothersome when I feel like sneakers are the only shoe that feels good.

I second the comfort of the Natualizer booties! I do have to add extra arch support, but I do in all shoes these days due to back issues.

Agree on the 2018 footwear award. I've been a fan of this brand for years and they just keep getting better!

Oh, I like those ones that Kkards shared. Yay for stompy boots! I got spoiled by these styles last winter as they are so comfortable and practical, yet work so well to toughen up my style.

Angie, good to hear about the Naturalizer booties. I LOVE the brand! Good to know about the hi-top sneaks although that style is not really my thing. A "stompy boot" might be though....

Thanks Joy!

Jessikams, budget is not an issue as far as expanding the collection, it's more about the time and energy to look for new ones. :-) Yes waterproof suede is totally fabulous, I only discovered the Blondo brand last winter and they are incredible. Canadian brands are (as you'd expect) masters of cold-climate footwear. Last year I got a very sporty style (find below) and this year added the more polished one above. Very comfortable too.

cindysmith, yes Angie sure is a great inspiration!

kkards you must be reading my mind ..I was thinking that adding a lace-up "stompy" boot might be just the thing, or anything in a grey color. Thanks for the suggestions!

Suz, YES, I've tried bright footwear over the past year and it just doesn't do anything for me. Never really did. Maybe a red sandal but otherwise I'm sticking with my dark neutrals and enjoying the bright on others like you and Angie. Patterned on the other had is a GREAT idea, one I've been thinking about a lot.

This looks like a great start, Chris. It sounds like bright shoes are just too far out of your comfort zone for now. What about a patterned bootie in your own best neutrals -- maybe a snake print or leopard? Leopard could work really well, tying your hair together with the darks that you like to wear as bottoms. That's what I might do if I were trying to expand away from black footwear.

love the idea of you adding a pair of fleece lined sneakers like Angie suggested.....or how about something for sorel, which strike me as classic with a twist...or something like this aquatalia pair (also waterproof) in this grey color, which i think is versatile, a it works with blacks, blues, and whites.

You are going to LOVE the Naturalizers. I am about to duplicate the white. 20,000 step shoes.

I wear oxfords in warm weather without socks.

I DO wear my arctic fleece lined, very warm, HI-TOP sneaks in ice and snow and cold weather. They have rubber soles and have excellent traction. I have three pairs. The SAS sneaks I wear for long flight travel.

La P i agree with you about perforated shoes. My climate is very close to yours (yours maybe just a smidge colder) so they are really only late spring through early fall shoes. Have learned my lesson.

You know, perforated shoes always say "summer" to me even if the silhouette looks like it could be transitional. Like you, I don't wear sneakers or oxfords much past October; it's all boots all the time from now 'til, hmm, May? Maybe a few lucky warm/dry days in March and April when I can enjoy spring dressing, but they are rare and I'm not always prepared for them!

I store off-season shoes on a shelf in the laundry room. Not ideal, but we don't have huge collections.

Good luck lisa! I do NOT have a great system for storing much of anything because I live in a 200+ year old house. We've added closets and whole rooms but never have enough closet space. I do use an over-door rack for flat shoes and shelving on the floor beneath hanging clothes for sneakers and booties. Between the multiple small closets, my four season climate, and my preferences changing from time to time, I seem to constantly be moving stuff around.

I'm about to launch into a footwear edit today too. One thing I'd be interested in hearing is how and where we all store our footwear. This is my biggest issue - and my current system is a hot mess. I also like "classic with something to sharpen the edges". My new mantra.

Meantime I’ve bought three new pairs in black that are all essentials
for me, all shown in finds..

Patent leather loafers

Simple booties for year round wear, to replace the ones I got rid of (this was a top pic in a diff color)

Waterproof suede, so that I have at least ONE pair of waterproof boots that are not sporty; (these were a top pic in flat leather, I got suede ones)

Now I can think about adding a few more that are a bit more interesting and some NOT BLACK. :-) To use a moniker RachyLou suggested about her cousin, that I'm going to run with for a while, "classic with something to sharpen the edges".

I’ve made several false starts on writing this post, probably because I was feeling so discombobulated about my footwear collection. Huge thanks to Angie for starting the October Closet Edit topic and special thanks to those who have posted on footwear, I have found the info hugely helpful.

The long and short of it is that I needed to get rid of one pair that was completely worn out, and demote about a half dozen pairs to the “limited
wear” collection because they are no longer comfortable except for short
periods of time or I’m tired of them. The limited wear items are all candidates for replacement and eventually getting rid of.

The finds show what I’m left with for every day that is versatile, comfortable, and I like to wear, not including sporty ones (sneakers, snow boots and not including dressy/occasion shoes. Pretty small collection and a bit uninspired. The grey booties and red loafers are perforated leather so they don’t work beyond shoulder seasons, and I don’t tend to wear ANY of the loafers or sneakers in deep winter because my ankles get too cold or there is too much snow/ice etc. I also do not feel like wearing the red loafers nearly as much as I thought I would.
