That stinks about the dancing, I hope someone new joins so you can go more often. I have no recommendation besides smartwool, I adore their socks. And I hear you with the waiting to wash whites issue, DH and I don't wear a lot of white, and it takes two weeks for me to have enough to do a load.

Thank you everyone for chiming in, especially to all the advice about various socks brands to try. I will give them a whirl and hopefully some of those will work. And I also appreciate the well wishes for dance partner search.

Sterling and DianeG, it is fun to have company doing something, so thank you for joining me. Today I am hoping to tackle accessories, summer shoes and outerwear.

Tanya- great start and wonderful to have basics in order. For warm socks, I tried Uniqlo Heattech knee high ones last year. They were not itchy and not too thick, while keeping my feet warm. I liked them and they may come in other lengths, too. I can't do winter without Heattech. I also wear Nordstrom knee highs; not as warm socks, but as sheer, nearly invisible hose.

Sorry to hear about your dance partner needing to be off the floor for awhile. Hoping an alternative comes your way soon.

Most of the outdoor stores I know of are going away from SmartWool. Darn Tough from Vermont seems to be more favored. REI has a bunch on sale. Also REI house brand can be good. Just not many plain ones.

I got a dozen sheer knee highs from Talbots. Had to order online. I like theit light nude though could go a tad lighter. The hold up well and the band stays up.

I"m fond of Smartwool socks, but I find that they wear out much more quickly than other socks. My daughter claims that you can return your worn ones to them and they will replace with new ones, but I have found no online evidence of that.

The place where I work out (TRX and Pilates) also has ballroom dancing and it definitely skews to female or married couples.

Well, my sock drawer is dismal. I got rid of everything that didn't have a mate (embarrassed that there were so many of these). I got rid of everything that was color coordinated to an outdated color scheme. That left a handful of socks remaining; I have no plans to replenish my sock collection. The truth is I don't wear many socks. I either go barelegged for most of the year or I wear nude hose.

Evaluated bra collection. All new as of 2016.

Evaluated underwear collection. In great shape. Yet, I always add underwear when I find them on sale at Nordstorm Rack. They' small and I always fear that I might not find my brand in my size ever again.

Evaluated my athletic gear. In 2016, I added one new capri; one new sports bra; one new top; and one new jacket. Only got rid of one capri because the fabric was icky. I am happy with my athletic gear capsule. It meets my every need.

Evaluated my sleep capsule. Fabulous. My favorite capsule.

My lounge capsule is actually my causal capsule. I'll evaluate that when Tanya next posts.

The same thing happened with me and tights a couple of years ago, where I was wearing them less and less bc I found them itchy and uncomfortable. So I purged most of them and now only have a few pairs, mostly black or grey. I do still wear skirts and dresses, but mostly with tall boots and either bare legs or leggings. If the weather is relatively mild I can handle the slight coldness from cold knees if the rest of my leg is covered, and if it's colder I wear thinnish leggings (I like the modal ones from gap, they are very soft and non itchy, but slightly sheer at times, which I actually like as a tights alternative) and since only the knee part is exposed I think it doesn't look too different from tights. I pretty much only wear the tights (or hosiery) for dressier events, not to work or the like.

I can help on the upscale bra replenishment. Of course you should check NAS, I have replenished some Natoris that way but that's it. The best bra sale anywhere is at BareNecessities.com. Twice a year they have a friends an family sale of 25% off. They even include Simone Perele. The spring sale is in April and I *think* the fall sale is October. I'll PM you when I get an email from them. So far it's been the only place I can find Simone Perele on sale, save for fashion colors on discount at Nordstrom.

Thank you for support about the dancing, ladies. I too hope to find a new partner sooner than later.

Suz, I like and have Smartwool socks too, it just that they tend to be very snug fitting. I like that most of the times, but occasionally love the relaxed soft feel of the wool/cashmere blend.

Janet, I could have written everything you did bout the undies and most about the tights, too. I don't mind having a lot of undies, they don't take much space and is something one always needs.

Angie, thank you for the Nordies knee-high recommendation, I will check them out. And you are spot on about Heattech long undies, I got a pair of the leggings last fall and wore them under jeans instead of tights in the cold. My skin was very happy, so I will probably add few more pairs.

I agree with you about replenishment of bras and knickers. Luckily, my knickers are in excellent shape and I have a vast collection. It is the bras that are worrying me, as I predict that about 5 of them will dye of stretched band death sometime in the upcoming 6-8 months and I can not afford to replace them all at once. Thus I will hunt the rare sales and try to replenish slowly while those 5 are still wearable.

((((Hugs)))). Sorry to hear about the dancing hiatus. Hope you find a new partner asap).

No more tights!

Uniqlo's heattech is the BEST. I wear it a LOT. Try their long undies for your legs too.

Replenishing bras and knickers is a fabulous feeling. Just did that - although it cost a small fortune. It's 100% worth it though.

I like Nordies in-house brand for knee highs. You can match your skin tone, and they are very affordable. I have many pairs in rotation because they stretch out before they ladder.

Good job!

Last year when I did a big hosiery/underwear/sleepwear edit, I got rid of half of my tights. I probably could have let go of even more. I think I wore a pair once last winter. I barely bother with skirts or dresses in the winter so why do I keep these things? (If I'm going to layer for warmth, I'll go with leggings under my jeans, not tights)

I have a bad habit of keeping way too much underwear in my collection and buying more when I get rid of some. I just counted and I have at least 40 pairs. Granted some are "nice" lacy things, some are workout undies, some are cotton, some are very lightweight mesh and good for hot weather, etc, so they do have different uses, but still, does that sound excessive or a little crazy?

My favourite socks are Smartwool so I don't have any recommendations beyond that. As for tights, I think they are easy to overdo. I discovered I also had lots (some of which were not in good shape) when I did my edit.

I started my big closet edit yesterday with the most boring of the categories - the basics. I evaluated my undies, bras, socks, tights, sleep wear, lounge wear and exercise wear. I have more than I need in most of those categories because I am very finicky about my laundry - I separate based on both colors and required wash temperatures and since I live alone it may take a while for a certain category (e.g. whites on hot, or brights on cool) to reach a full load, as I do not like wasting energy.

In general, I purged about 10-30% of what I have in all the categories. In most cases those do not need to be replenished because of high starting numbers. Some particular notes/exceptions:

I had to purge almost all of my warm wool/cashmere blend socks for fairly cold weather as they were really worn, and this category does need replacing. I'd appreciate recommendations for warm socks you like, beside Smartwool.

I also need to replenish my sheer knee-highs, with the whole cropped pant/bootie trend. Any good quality brands you can recommend?

I tried Heattech layering tees last winter for the first time and really liked them, so a few more are in order.

Bras - a good number are on their last leg as I have to start wearing them on their 3rd, tightest hook. I suspect they will be done in 6-8 months. Since I wear a difficult size to find of 30D and most of the bras I like are fairly expensive; I need to start watching for the rare sales and hopefully slowly replenish, to try to avoid having to spend a huge sum on a bunch new bras all at once next year.

For some reason, I have a ridiculous number of tights! Plain, patterned, textured, you name it. I have started wearing them much less in the last couple of years because they starting making my skin itch. Before that I used to wear them regularly under jeans in the winter for warmth. I think I also have a habit a throwing a pair with an online order whenever I needed it to be a few more bucks to get free shipping, based on my constant wear of them in the past. So no more tights!

On a sad note, I washed and packed away most of my dance practice gear as I won't be needing it for a while. My dance partner and his wife had their first baby a month ago so he is of the dance floor for the foreseeable future. It is very difficult to find a new dance partner as there tend to be many more women than men, so it may take more then a year to find a new one. In the meantime I will be practicing on my own a little, but I find that very difficult to do and not nearly as much motivating or rewarding.
