<p>I completely understand about the blue color.&nbsp; I have a hard time wearing blue with blue jeans because the colors are either too close to each other or the blues clash weirdly.&nbsp; It's one reason I don't have a much blue in my closet.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<p>KikiG - I think you are on to something there - if I wear the top with a padded style bra it does look better. But it's still too "fussy" for my more minimalist style I guess.

<p>I have the Gipson top in black, and I'm wearing it today.&nbsp; I suspect the key to wearing a top with a knot is that it looks best if one's bust projects past the knot, which mine does, and that creates a happy drape situation&nbsp; I was so happy with the black top that I duplicated it (on sale!) in a sort of plum mixed with black, but the fit isn't exactly the same, and I'm fearful it may be destined to be an orphan, or, a better idea, lounge wear.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<p>Sounds like many have learned the same lessons on things like scratchy zippers, a lovely color that just doesn't work, or buying more than one color of the same item before taking the time to fully evaluate it (fear of missing out?)&nbsp; I actually do have some success in multi-color things like a great thicker tee I found that I now own in 3 colors and wear all three equally. But that is a rare thing and the low cost of the tee was one of the reasons I was willing to go for it. I ended up even duplicating one color so I'd have a backup (so yes, now I own 4 of the same tee, but with color options). But I wear tees quite a lot working at home so it makes perfect sense for my lifestyle - and I'm not wearing graphic tees nearly as much so I needed some replacements. I still enjoy a great graphic tee, like this one I recently found from jcrew.

<p>Great job editing!</p>
<p>I am another person in that "love this color but never want to wear it" camp, with very similar feelings as you about blue. If it's too close to&nbsp;the color of denim jeans I&nbsp;don't wear it much. I do however have black and grey jeans so mid blues can work with those&nbsp;(as Janet suggested re: black)&nbsp;I just bought a simple merino sweater in a muted denim blue and have to think hard about whether I'll keep it. It's a tough lesson to learn. </p>
<p>I totally agree about the knot/waist top style. I have one in a grey print that I woke this summer&nbsp;but expect to ditch next summer after I get some replacements, it's&nbsp;really annoying. </p>
<p>I also get that "scratch my hands when I reach in the bag" hassle...I almost bought this mustard bag but rejected if for just that reason. I too am still hunting for a&nbsp;cognac/brown bag"&nbsp; </p>

<p>I had similar issues with many of the items I edited out of closet. So close to being right, but just did not make the grade. Understanding the reason for not wearing something is very useful because at least you will not repeat the mistake.

<p>It can be really rewarding to be able to pinpoint why a particular piece didn't work, so that you don't repeat the mistake in the future. You have great analytical skills!</p>
<p>I bought two Anthro tees a few years ago, one in black and one in a beautiful teal color. They were dupes. I figured the black tee would be useful (I needed a black tee) and I was in love with the teal color. Well, I rarely wore the black tee, because it was too hot due to the way the tee was designed (big knot of fabric in the middle), and since I wasn't in love with the knotted design, I rarely wore the teal one either! So having the tee in the most beautiful color wasn't enough to make me wear it. Live and learn. Buying dupes can be very instructive sometimes!

<p>Hmm I completely understand all your reasons. I have bought multiples of items in different colors, and I always end up strongly favoring one colour. And it’s weird that sometimes the actual fabric and fit itself can be different in a different colour way, I’ve found that too.<br />
FWIW, that heathered cadet blue or heathered light blue are my favorite colour to wear. I find they work really well with charcoal grey, light heathered grey, prints with almost any shade of blue in them, black and white prints, watermelon, and...... NEON ORANGE! Truly that blue looks fab with neon orange... most commonly found in tee shirts and athletic sneakers.<br />
Also I sometimes wear it monochrome with cadet blue on top and bottom or with blue jeans and a scarf.<br />
But I’m saying all this more out of interest than anything.... coz if you are over it then move onwards and upwards I say!!

<p>Trouble with buying different colors of the same items, is fabrics and fits can be different. I too learned the hard way! But it feels especially wasteful if its its something that only got a few wears as opposed to wearing out from a lot of use

I think it's not the most flattering thing on me, and I'd like to move away from wearing grey. I don't think I have a strong enough shoulder line to really pull it off.&nbsp; I may be keeping it as loungewear (and for running out in my neighborhood for errands), since it's comfortable and still in good condition. it will work as a kind of light sweatshirt for me. (I'm not suggesting you should do the same, mind you--it definitely doesn't make sense for you to keep two of them.)<br /></div>

<p><div>Regarding the dusty blue color Janet and Suz - I think it's partly due to my wearing blue jeans/denim shorts so often (no contrast) but must also be more than that as even with white bottoms I wasn't loving those blue tops (and I even have a couple of tees the same color and same feeling on those). I can't put my finger on it. It *should* work on me but I much prefer a darker blue or charcoal gray.</div><div><br /></div><div>And thanks for the other sandal suggestions Suz!<br /></div>

<p>This is really interesting. A couple of thoughts -- some of my own mistakes result from thinking I know exactly what I need (i.e. a fabric of a certain weight, or something in a specific colour) and looking for or at that quality almost in exclusion to others -- getting blinded to the fit or comfort level by "that one thing" I was looking for in a top. I wonder if it's sometimes similar for you.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The blue would look amazing on you but if you don't reach for it. then it's not making you happy...</p>
<p>Re the Damara sandal -- I had these several years ago in silver. Although Ecco usually works well for me, this sandal was a bust. It was too flat/ unsupported and as you say, it seemed to wear more quickly than other shoes. I did keep and wear it for two seasons but was happy to let it go when I did. The similar Eileen Fisher is much more expensive (alas) but also much better quality. This year I saw a Sofft version that also looks promising.&nbsp;

<p><div>So I haven't had much time on YLF lately - hope everyone is doing well!</div><div> I did a big purge earlier this year and don't have a ton of things to clear out now, but a few items I bought and only wore a few times are likely going to be donated so I thought I'd share some of the "whys" here as maybe it would be helpful.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>1. Heather blue twist front knit top - I bought this in taupe and this blue color. Note to self - be sure you LOVE the shape before investing in multiple colors of an item. I never enjoyed wearing the blue color for whatever reason so it's been worn maybe twice. But I think it's more about the shape of the top since even the taupe is getting few wears (maybe 5). I don't like how the bulkiness in front feels with the twisted material. Instead of camouflaging any extra, it makes me feel like I have gained "extra" baggage in front. lol. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>2. The lucky block print top "should" be perfect for my warm climate. And I love the colors and print. But it's SO long on me - and I mean nearly a dress long. The floaty light material would make it very hard to alter and the price doesn't make it worthwhile. I have another of these in a black and light tan print and I do wear it more often as I can tuck it in mostly or even create a side knot to create a good enough look. Since I'm only willing to accommodate the extra length once in a while, there is no need having two of these in different patterns.</div><div><br /></div><div>3. Simple light weight tees are only lounge/workout wear for me these days. I prefer a thicker weight tee or other style knit or woven top.</div><div><br /></div><div>4. The lightweight gauze material seemed ideal for hot summer weather when I wanted some coverage. But that same blue again - for whatever reason I just don't end up reaching for it. And the fit was off on both this and the striped one (which I wore more anyway). Too big in the shoulders really.</div><div><br /></div><div>5. These are only one of several shoes I got rid of this year. These didn't really wear that well - they ended up hurting the top of my foot, felt too flat and looked worn after only ten or so outings.</div><div><br /></div><div>6. The teal print silk/cotton jcrew top is beautiful so it is still in my holding zone. But it feels just a little tight in the shoulders and will likely have to be let go once I find a replacement. I'm keeping it to remind me to find one - and just in case I happen to lose weight and find it fitting better, which is doubtful.</div><div><br /></div><div>7. The cognac handbag is a great color and size for me but the zippers are thick and bothersome - scratch my hands when I reach in the bag. It is currently the only one I own in this color so I may keep it until I replace it.</div><div><br /></div><div>8. Some slim (skinny almost) jeans that are just too "skinny" for my tastes and comfort these days. I'm also leaning towards a slightly higher rise - maybe mid-rise, which is more like 9"- 10" for me.<br /></div>
