Yes - I agree with Unfrumped - the more flexibility you have, the better. I had this done on our huge walk-in closet that we had when he lived in our "huge" house - LOL! I worked with just regular carpenter guys and it was like magic, they just seemed to intuitively understand what I wanted/needed. Be sure you allocate enough space for shoe storage!!!!!

What fun you are going to have!

If possible, I recommend getting as much adjustability in things like shelving as you can. Maybe that's par for the course with custom closets but of course is not in some kits. Yes, you can measure everything and have a place for everything and then install that, but I find I've enjoyed revising what goes where according to changes in lifestyle or my style or whatnot. So shelving rails that have movable pins, or a framework on which you can move around modular components--that sort of thing. Also have the potential for more or less long or short (double rod) hanging space.

When I did my closets for the Woman Cave, I did the design myself online at http://www.easyclosets.com and then they shipped the materials to me and I had a handyman install it. I worked on it for probably close to a year and the end result was exactly and precisely perfect because I thought about it for such a long time. Just a thought if you're not in a huge hurry and have a good idea what you want.

No ideas to be helpful, but ooooh! How exciting! Super jealous, as I desperately want a closet makeover, but I'm not sure our wee home can accomodate much different than what we've already got. Can't wait to share your excitement!

So today I had two highly-recommended local closet companies come to our house to work up plans and quotes for our walk-in closet. I'm very excited! One company already showed me a layout plan (in 3D!) and gave me a quote. The other is not quite as tech-savvy and needs a few days to work up a plan.

Any advice as I move forward? Have any of you done this before?
