No one was injured...
You have a good excuse to sort...
Think what a mess you would have had if this had happened before you downsized your wardrobe...
It was an accident and not your 14 year old on a chair sneaking something out...
(This is about as half full as I can make it...Hope the clean up is not too much of a pain...smile...)

Good to hear it was just a bracket that gave way. Small issue....will be fixed in no time

PS: Your thoughts did NO SUCH THING!

Ooops!

I remember that happening to my daughter some years ago. We fixed the problem, but there's still a saggy rail in the closet.

Jenn, I would be super annoyed but your post made me LOL. Sometimes I do feel like things fall apart from the weight of my thoughts. A few weeks ago a pair of scissors fell out of my homeschool shelves in the middle of the night about 2 am and woke me up. I am pretty sure my angst at choosing a math curriculum is what spurred them to take that jump.

With 15 hangers??? It's a bummer indeed:-).

It happened to me. TWICE!:-) But have to admit there were much more than 15 hangers...:-(.

Don't overthink. Just buy a stronger rode:-).

You're so lovely, Maneera.

I'm actually quite happy with our closet design. We built our house new about 18 years ago, so mostly got what we wanted. It has shelves on two walls, only one of which came down. The intact side has a double rack (each half-height). with a stack of five two-foot shelves on one edge. My husband and I split the shirt-height racks (he doesn't require a lot of space) and use the shelves for boots and folded items.

The rack that collapsed was our only full-length rack, though, so I used it for my dresses and trousers, along with things like toppers that I grab often. It was only the brackets holding this that broke, so we'll replace them with a stronger support system and (bonus!) add some new shelves for shoes. In the meantime, there's plenty of room in the coat closet for my displaced pieces, so they're being well taken-care of. I will be doing some sorting before they go back in, though!

Oh no Jenn! That's a bummer. But....hear me out....this could be a blessing in disguise. Getting a new closet might mean that you can now plan it according to your wardrobe goals. You made a list of your essentials, you have a slightly better idea of how many clothes you need, and now your closet can be rebuild so that your clothes can all have a new improved home.

Here is my advice. All your clothes are out now....do sort through them. See how best to store each piece and for the time being, move them onto chairs. It's ok to even pile them into suitcases and put a makeshift curtain wire in your room to hang up the hangers (won't recommend putting those gorgeous dresses in a box)

Plan a better closet solution and take your time shopping for one. Customize your closet based on what you'll store and how you'll store. It's OK. DONT PANIC.

Just like you take care of clothes and shoes and replace them from time to time, closets and cupboards need upgrades too.

Relax. And find solace in the fact that all your clothes and shoes are OK. Lemme know if I can help you in ANY way.....maybe even design a closet for you

Hope you're feeling better, girl

I was downstairs reading this evening and heard a thump from the bedroom. My fourteen-year-old came running downstairs to tell me, "Your shelf in your walk-in closet is, like, totally destroyed and everything's on the floor."

Went up to find my husband standing in the closet, not quite swearing, but almost :), and all my dresses, toppers, trousers, and shoes in a giant crumpled heap. I almost cried.

If you'll recall, I don't have a lot of clothes! We're talking 15 hangers, and two shoe sorters on the rack, plus some luggage stored on the shelf above. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I kind of feel like it just collapsed under the weight of all my thoughts about clothing this past month.
