Disco ball pants and a long tunic sounds absolutely perfect to wear to casual parties. Comfortable fun and festive! Silver pants must look amazing with your hair. I would wear silver pants with a big oversized white knit.

You guys are very wise. I'll put the things in a holding zone and find a way to wear the pants without feeling like a disco ball (or maybe I'll just go all in like Carla's inspiration pic)

Keep the disco pants, the holiday season s coming up and you might just be tempted to wear them. Also l wouldn’t rush to get rid of more stuff just yet.3weeks isn’t long .l have phases where I can’t be bothered with some of my clothes but then they swing back into favour. If you kept it because you like it hang onto it alittle longer and maybe revisit when you are switching your wardrobe out for spring.

I'm going to encourage a holding zone for those "meh" items. Silver skinnies sound perfect for the holidays; add one of those tunics or a long topper if you need to tone them down. And the buttondown shirts that seem unappealing in the winter might make perfect light spring toppers worn unbuttoned over a tee or tank. Wide leg khakis also sound like a spring/summer item to me, and I'm wondering if hacking a few inches off the bottom might make them more wearable. Khaki crops or culottes? I'd love something like that!

It sounds like you are in the process of nailing down a uniform of sorts, but could it be that this is your "off-duty fall uniform" and in a few months you may be reaching for a different unfiorm altogether?

Examples from my own closet: I have two pairs of very lightweight boyfriend jeans that I have absolutely no interest in wearing after about mid-September. As I was trying to figure out what was wrong with them (or me), I realized that while they are perfect jeans for summer-weight tops, they feel too soft and unstructured when I try to pair them with thick cozy winter tops, so I end up feeling schlubby. Also, I like them best rolled up to the bottom of my calf, which makes the inseam just too short to wear in cold weather. So into the summer stuff bin they go. I also put aside two pairs of cropped trousers for similar reasons: they are just *too* cropped for me to wear in cold weather. Even with ankle boots they hit a bit too high on my leg and it just feels like I'm trying to wear warm-weather pants in cold weather. Sets off my seasonal confusion alarm! They're still good pants, but I have plenty of other options that are better suited to freezing temps. These can wait 'til spring to come out and play again.

Even the most perfect piece of clothing can't be perfect all the time!

Why not just put those things in a holding zone and see if you start reaching for them. I've kept things for up to 3 years in a holding zone, then brought them back for one or two wears and finally donated them. Moody dressers sometimes need more time I think.

And do you "need" more of those tried and true outfits or are you just bored with the ones you already own? Sometimes I find myself wanting to buy when I have plenty for my real needs. Okay, often I find myself doing that. lol.

I agree about not tossing anything yet, since you just started the new job. You can always put the things into the holding zone for now.
Buy a few more comfy cozies for after work if you want-were not the no shopping police! And try styling the silver pants for the holidays. Apparently "bum dances" are very popluar on the forum this week! You can always reevaluate after new years if you ended up not wearing them.

I also think the disco pants are fabulous.... surely they could work with a long top?
In terms of just wanting to wear comfy stuff after work, I can so relate. My goal with most of my outfits is that they feel like pajamas. I have to force myself to even wear jeans at the moment. However it is an interesting way to discover new comfy outfits....
But I wouldn’t edit out too much more stuff in case you suddenly feel like getting a bit more dressed up! Do you tend to go through phases like that?
Also transitioning weather is hard! Some days nothing seems right for the temperature.
Good luck with it all.

Those pants make your backside look like a big ole disco ball? Idk your husband’s tastes, but you might want to check with him before you chuck them. Or wear them with the eggplant zulily tunic.

This is not a popular opinion around here, but I think you should ease up on the weeding for a while. You clearly liked that stuff when you did the edit, you are clearly in the mood for these 4 pieces now. It seems entirely likely to me that when the weather settles into a pattern, or changes to a different one, or you are in a different spot, emotionally, those wide-legged khakis might be just what you’re in the mood for. How much money did you spend on “work” clothes that were given away? Time to slow down the churn! Be more discerning about what comes in, but perhaps a bit slower to release items as well.

This was a fun read. You write so well, Cindy. And I think the issue you are facing is common to all those who work hard in some kind of uniform. What you crave at home is sophisticated loungewear that looks like clothing. That’s why I think you should give the disco jeans another chance. With the right tunic they would be awesome for holiday season. And I want to see the new boots!

Keep the disco pants at least through the holiday season. They look perfect for an informal New Years Eve. If you don't wear them between now and January or find that you don't enjoy wearing them, pass them on..

I am right there with you! I have found myself standing/staring at my closet feeling just “meh” about most of what I’m looking at. It passed my test last month, so why am I not excited to wear any of it? I keep reaching for the same thing over and over: leggings and a flannel. I even made a point to wash and steam my shirts last weekend so I could have them this week. And, I’ve already worn two of them.... I *did* change my topper, scarf and boots, but basically I’m wearing the same thing.

As far as your silver pants, I say do an outfit lab before you let them go. You must have held onto them because you liked them.

Angie challenged us to a closet edit last month. LaPed challenged us to shop our closets this month. I thought I had done a thorough closet edit and was looking forward to shopping my closet.

Then, 2 days ago, I came in from work and only wanted to reach for one particular outfit. The same outfit I've been wanting to wear for weeks and weeks and weeks now. See finds: grey moto leggings from h&m + grey tunic from zulily. I stood there half-nekkid, scratching my head as I stared at all the clothes in my closet, wondering why I didn't want to wear them. They're obviously what I consider worthy, since they survived the closet edit last month.

The very next day, I came home reaching for an outfit that I've been wanting to reach for on cooler days for a while now. Eggplant tunic from zulily, moto leggings from target (finds).

I was ignoring everything else in my closet except for these 2 tunics and 2 pairs of leggings. I came to the conclusion that there is still crap in my closet that probably shouldn't be there. In my defense, I did just go through a job search and preparation for a clothing retail job, so there are pieces in there that were acquired with that in mind. I loved them for that context, but that context doesn't fit what my life wound up being. So there's some stuff in there that likely needs to go. Why it didn't go in the closet edit is beyond me.

Wide leg khakis? That's a good basic to have, right? Except I avoid wide legs like the plague (I'm so graceful I literally trip over all that fabric in wide leg pants). Pink button up oversized shirt? A good item to have in a dippin dots wardrobe. Except I pretty much hate button up shirts (poison eye that developed when I couldn't find button up shirts that didn't gap in front and boa-constrictor my arms). Metallic silver skinny pants (find)? You know as well as I do that those will make my a$$ look like a disco ball, which makes their divine comfort level absolutely irrelevant. I could go on, but I think we get the point There's a lot of stuff in there that I like, I just don't want to wear it after a day at work. I also apparently don't want to wear it on my days off, because I haven't reached for any of them in the last 3 weeks.

Thank heaven I'm under a no-buy AND just joined a gym for the first time in my life. Otherwise, I'd probably be shopping for all the tunics and all the moto leggings. Because I'm kind of tired of the act of getting dressed ending up leaving my closet looking like a war zone.

I'm not going to get rid of any of my summer-weight garments just yet, because historically I do like what's in my closet for hot weather. For now, I'll be shopping my closet with an editor's eye. There will be days when my closet just looks like a war zone (the weather is, well, transitional, right now), but it won't be every day, and the frequency of the skirmishes should decrease as I continue to weed out what doesn't work for me. On days when I don't work at all, I'll be finding out what I truly love, because I won't be tired and I'll have the energy to be creative with my stuff.

I did wear something today that WASN'T moto leggings and a tunic. Navy blue Vince knit top, slightly loose but not oversized; AG skinny jeans in a pale silver-grey color, and my new Nine West OTK boots that I got for the opening day of deer-hunting season (I get a new pair of shoes every year just because he stays out in the woods so much during deer season LOL).

I have a funny feeling that I'm going to wind up with a pretty small, tight wardrobe for my off duty hours, and it's going to be only things that I truly love. When I say "pretty small, tight wardrobe", I mean fairly minimalist in both number and aesthetic.

These closet challenges are challenging, y'all! However, I'm grateful, because they're really helping me hone in on what I love love love.

P.S. I'm on the fence about the disco ball pants, because they're really that comfortable. Should I do a try-on/outfit lab with them before I send them down the road?
