Maya, I agree with you about Chelsea being awkward. I know I used the word, but honestly, it's because I pretty much think ALL kids that age are awkward. I often say that I wonder how parents just don't kick their kids out of the home at the age of 13: they become difficult in terms of attitude, and they don't even have cuteness to counteract it.

Chelsea was particularly unfortunate because she was thrust into the spotlight at an incredibly difficult age. Have hair that could be frizzy and braces certainly didn't help, and the media was often quite mean. I think it would be the case for any kid, though (and have seen MANY awkward boys of that age).

Malia Obama is going to be hitting that stage of life soon. But I actually have a feeling she's going to be one of the lucky few who looks perfect at every age.

It really always irked me to hear all the comments about "awkward" Chelsea. If she were a son and not a daughter, would everyone be so hung up about her appearance? What made her awkward exactly? I don't recall her *doing* or saying anything to warrant that kind of criticism. It was strictly based on her appearance. Honestly, who is gorgeous at that age with wacky hormones, acne, and a rapidly changing body? I was a little younger than she was when her family was in the White House, and I always thought she looked totally normal. No wonder teen girls are so miserable and self conscious. As a kid I thought wow, if people think SHE is awkward and unattractive, what does that say about *me* with my big glasses and acne?

I just looked at a picture of her again, and I still don't think there was any reason to label her as awkward. She looked like a normal 12 year old.

(Add to my list of most loathed words: "blossomed.")

I think everyone looked amazing and Chelsea is such a glowing bride! I actually like the Mrs. Roper caftan - I think it's very glam! I don't know if it befit the occasion though. I definitely like that Hilary stepped out of her comfort zone of pastel suits! Love the color of the dress she wore to the wedding - I would love to see a full shot of it.

I thought Chelsea looked so pretty in her dress, and it's so jarring to see her like this, because I still remember her as an awkward pre-teen. It's wonderful that she grew into her looks and is now clearly confident and happy.

As for Hillary, I have only seen that one photo of her in the MOB dress, but thought the color looked great, as did her hair (something Hillary has been up-front about having a lot of problems getting right). The caftan was just so surprising to me because it is SO different from anything I have ever seen her in.

Mac, regarding the price of the wedding, I actually read that the estimates were off and the wedding cost less than $1 million. Regardless, I do agree with Julie that a wedding is, in part, dictated on your bank book. Of course you are right that many people spend more than they can afford for their weddings, and require years to pay it off. But that's clearly not the case with the Clintons, so if they can afford it, I don't see it as inelegant if they decided to spend that much on their daughter's wedding. I'm also sure that a significant sum of money was spent on security (despite the fact that the Clinton's have secret service protection), which is something most people don't have to deal with. A tiny wedding/elopement like JFK Jr's isn't for everyone, so if Bill and Hill wanted to go all out for their only child's wedding, I don't find that tacky.

I have never seen a Mother of the bride (And a beautiful bride might I add) choose something so inappropriate for her daughters rehearsal dinner as that!! My Mom used to wear those casually around the house.

"How much you choose to spend on your wardrobe or your wedding is very much dictated by your bank balance. " I have to strongly disagree on this. There are plenty of extremely wealthy people who have modest weddings (I thought JFK Jr's small, private nuptials were very elegant) and plenty of folk who throw weddings that they can't really afford and spend years paying off. And I am very well acquainted with a woman who is worth over $100 million who dresses in simple, neat, relatively inexpensive clothes. How much you spend on your clothes or wedding is NOT dictated by bank balance.

Stylish? Chelsea's happiness.
Inelegant? The cost.

I'm not a huge fan of her hair colour and style but the dress was interesting and regal. Chelsea looked gorgeous and glowing. I'm also drawn to more offbeat bridal styles but hey, if you're going the traditional/typical route, she did it right.

Sparky, you can also see Hilary's Oscar de la Renta mother-of-the-bride full-length in the background of #4. I really like that dress, so pretty and happy, and the colors are terrific on her. I'm not sure I would have gone with a full skirt like that, but the rest of the dress is so lovely I don't care that much.

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel.....toViewer=4

Kristine, I don't think Chelsea wore too much makeup. She's so pale (in hair and skin) and the dress was so white, she needed to have her features more sharply defined of her face would have been lost in the the lack of color. I'm a similar coloring and I had the same issue in my wedding dress; I put on my regular amount of makeup and luckily my hairdresser (who was also a drag queen, LOL) took one look and said, "Oh honey, no." It ended up being way more makeup than I have ever worn before or since, but I will freely admit I am glowing in all my photos. I have never looked that good since.

I think Hillary looks glamorous, it's almost like a batwing dress. I guess she shouldn't have waved. I was happy to see her wearing pink at the wedding, she looks great.

I think it's difficult for her to strattle the line between powerful and confident yet fashionable and feminine. If you look at all the great fashion role models in politics (Michelle Obama, Jackie O, Carla Bruni), they're all wives of politicians! The exception might be Nancy Pelosi who has a nice balance.

Chelsea's dress is beautiful! She looks gorgeous, but I am the only one who thought she wore too much make-up?! She's naturally pretty, she doesn't need all that goop on her face, not even for the cameras.

I think Hillary looks great here. The dress itself is somewhat fitted, and her hair, makeup and accessories are stunning.

She wore an Oscar de la Renta gown for the wedding. Here's a partial picture of it (scroll down a bit to see the photo):

And while I'm at it, a full length view of Chelsea in her dress:

Gorgeous.

Ooh, thanks for the extra links Kristen. I'm liking this dress more and more for Hillary- I agree with you that this is a huge step up for her. She's clearly not a woman who's ever been interested in fashion (which is hardly a crime) so to see her looking this soft and pretty is a real departure. I don't even mind the kaftan-style sleeves that run into the side seam, I just think it's the photos that aren't doing it justice. If she'd just stop waving at people ;)

I feel a bit bad that I said Chelsea's dress bored me, and I do understand that finding the right dress is a battle. I started working in bridal at age 16 (part-time) and continued for another 4 years, so I think I just got my "oooh, wedding dresses!" phase over with at an early age. As an adult, I'm more drawn to bridal looks that are offbeat or different from the norm in some way. If I ever get married it will be in a simple, retro-inspired knee length number that I design and sew myself. Possibly off-white, possibly green. We'll see

I agree with Kristen. The body of the dress fits her nicely. It's those darned sleeves that ruin the whole thing. I'm hoping that in person the difference between the sleeves and the body of the dress was more apparent, and it didn't have such a mumu look. I hope she didn't pick the dress just to cover her arms. Some women are so funny about arm coverage, but clearly here a little bit of arm waddle would have been better than the alternative she went with.

There seems to be just a few shots of the Clintons arriving at the rehearsal dinner, not the wedding itself.

Chelsea looks radiant but I'm not sure if it's the dress or how happy she is. Finding the right wedding dress is so so hard.

KristenKP, I looked at the pictures you posted but I still don't see how Hilary's dress works. I just don't get it.

Are there lots of pictures available? I thought they were trying really hard to keep the media out. Was that just a front?

I agree, it is likely a very unflattering pose for Mrs. Clinton's dress. It's actually pretty fitted at the bodice, and the sleeves are more sheer and fly-away than they appear. Add the low neckline (which she NEVER wears), the statement jewels, and the breezy, pretty hairstyle and I can see why they called it "glam". This is a lot different from the colored suits she usually wears.

(Closer, better pictures of the dress.)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....66210.html

Hilary has never been particularly good about finding flattering clothes for herself or seeming to care about fashion much, from way back when Clinton was in office until she started her run for President. Then her stylists finally got her into those coordinated suits which aren't the trendiest thing but at least get the job done and give her a powerful, mature look -- which she needs as Secretary of State. This dress is a huge departure from all of that, and I think she carried it off. For a sixty-something woman finally hitting her stride, but still aware of all her body's foibles and flaws, this is really a great look for her.

Ele, I agree, Chelsea has really grown up into a lovely young woman.
