I just called my Nordies and they confirmed that they do leather alterations. Our store is so small I wasn't sure if their services would compare to the flagship stores. But they do, so off I go. It feels good knowing they'll do it right or make it right. I sure do love that place. :)

You know I can't resist a gratuitous goat picture. It's the only time I've ever posted a pic wearing gear. But it's gear only for the farm and the feed store, I promise!

I have similar issues with my CE jacket.
I will try to post on the weekend.
The Nordies' alteration sounds like the best idea.

It's so interesting to hear all of your varied responses! It's exactly the commentary I've had going on in my head. :)

It sounds as though the best compromise is the Small with altered sleeves. The only other leather alteration I've ever had done was a pair of Aquatalia boots, and it was a disaster, so I'm very gun shy, but the best bet seems to be having Nordstrom do it. I'll cross my fingers!

Angie, I've been snuggling Tango quite a bit this summer as he was sick there for a bit. He seems to be back to his happy, goofy self though!

The jacket looks fantastic on you! I vote for the S. I was in the same boat deciding between the XS and S because of the sleeve length. I ended up with the S. It's a great jacket and if the sleeve length really bothers you, I would do as others suggested and have Nordies alter them. It would be worth it.

The XS seems like a smoother fit to me and fits your bustline better as well. It doesn't buckle out like the small does. Does leather stretch out? How often would you dry clean and would this jacket shrink any? I've never worn a leather jacket before. All I know is that leather shoes can stretch out.

This is one of the better fitting leather jackets I've seen on anyone. I almost bought the faux leather vest that Angie recommended in the NAS sale as my wild card piece!

I think the S fits best to my eye. The sleeves are a bit too long (I can't tell the width), so I am unsure if that's a deal-breaker for you.

I don't own any leather jackets, but is it possible the XS would stretch out a bit with wear?

If you're going to be wearing the jacket open, my vote goes for the XS. The S looks too large in the shoulders and under the arms. Zipped, I prefer the S, but open it definitely gives you too much room in the upper arm, but especially under the arm.

If you decide to get the sleeves shortened--I think it will have to be at the shoulder--be careful that the underarm doesn't get too tight. My leather jacket couldn't be shortened that way because it was already fitted in the upper arm and I needed about 2 inches off (luckily it's a half-knit, not a zipper, so it can be done from the bottom with some extra work). FWIW, I was told by a Danier salesgirl that leather jackets definitely do stretch with wear.

Hmm. I didn't realize the sleeves had zips at the bottom.

I'm not sure how Nordstrom's deals with it, but at Danier I have had this alteration done -- they take it up from the shoulder. It worked beautifully.

I'm on the fence, the XS looks great from the back like Vix said, but the small wins when you turn around, especially if you make some small alterations. In any case, I think you can end up happy. This is a gorgeous coat, and these are, to me what seem like small enough issues that can be dealt with. By the way, do leather coats stretch a bit like shoes? If so, than I would go with the extra small.

Hi Beth --

I often do the same, and in fact am awaiting an alt size now....

I prefer a more body conscious look and really the only time the XS looks slightly snug vs fitted to me (due to bust real estate) is when it's worn closed, which isn't how you wear your jackets.

My pet (wearing) peeves include jackets that are big across the back and have a lot of fabric bunching through and under the arms or in the torso. To me the S looks like it's doing that while the XS looks sleek and gorgeous on you.

I don't know anything about altering leather; do you think the sleeves could be shortened given that they have zippers? And thanks for the kind words.

I like the smoother sleeve fit in the XS. Also, the sleeves of the S definitely look too long to me. But I am picky about sleeve length, I just dropped off a leather jacket for $45 alterations to shorten sleeves that hit at my bottom thumb joint. I think about an inch past the wrist, with arms down, is as long as sleeves should go.

Every year, I find a splurge piece I love and then dither on sizing, feeling that for the investment it has to be perfect. Last year it was the tweed Smythe jacket (which ended up being perfection and I can't wait to wear it again), this year it's the Classiques moto.

I originally bought it in the regular Small. The body fits well, but the sleeves have been bugging me as they're a bit wide and definitely long. I received the XS today. The body is quite snug, but the sleeve width and length looks and feels much better.

This is what I've considered already:

~In the few Classiques tops (silk shells, etc) I've tried, the XS fit much better than Small.

~I like the sleeker fit of the XS but also get that many motos look good slightly oversized.
~I wear my jackets open and almost exclusively with fine-gauge knits rather than chunky sweaters (although that could change).
~The shoulders in both fit similarly.
~You can see in several of the pics that the sleeves on the Small go over my knuckles.

~I tried the petite version and the sleeves were much too short

I really need some opinions about which looks better. The XS is on the left of each collage while the Small is on the right.

Ack! Thoughts?
