Well I am happy it sounds like I can continue my love affair with Clarks after all.

Londonkiwi--I had to take them to a cobbler in Germany, although I bought them in the USA. I haven't yet found a cobbler here I trust, though.

I'm on my first pair of Clarks for a long time (since I was a child!), so perhaps you had a bad pair, but I wonder if all Clarks are created equal since the range that appears in the UK and the USA is very different (you live in Germany?), perhaps different manufacturers are used and therefore the quality differs. Not that I have anything to substantiate this comment, but it is something I have been musing over.

Did you take them to a cobbler to have them fixed or back to the shop?

How frustrating. Quality problems drive me to drink. And I don't even drink!

My own experience with Clarks has been brilliant. No client complaints either.

Oh that's a shame. I would think it's just a one off I have a pair of Clarks booties which I bought about 3 years ago and wore constantly the 1st winter and still haven't even had to have them reheeled though the inner lining is wearing away by my little toe x

I agree with Laura, try again! I buy at least one pair of Clarks every year, and I continue to wear the ones that are 3-4 years old. The only reason I have gotten rid of any of them is because they have gone out of style, not because they have worn out. I think you might have had just some bad luck with that pair, unfortunately!

So I used to be a huge Clarks fan because their shoes are comfortable and wear ridiculously well. At least they used to. The last pair of Clarks I bought was a heeled bootie, but after one season of wear the toe started to separate from the sole and rain/snow leaks inside my shoe. It rains or snows here A LOT so effectively these shoes are now useless, even though otherwise they look to be in perfect condition, good leather, etc. I took them once to be repaired but after a couple months it opened up again. I was really mad about this because the reason I am willing to pay so much for Clarks is that they really outlasted other shoes. Now it seems like they are going the way of practically everything else, which is to say they are made well enough to make you buy them, but then start falling apart in weird ways. (I spent last night repairing various seams that have opened up in my most expensive clothing, so I guess I have a head of steam built up.)

Okay, rant over. My question is, since a lot of people here seem to buy Clarks, was I just unlucky this one time? I was so mad after this experience that I have refused to look at a pair of Clarks since then. But I miss my Clarks
