My Dermatologist recommended Aveeno 30. I use it everyday and add some 55 to my nose or if I know I'm going to be out for a while. Doesn't cause breakouts, seems to work. I just can't justify spending big $$ on moisturizer when they are all fundamentally the same.

Dropping in for a moment. My eye doctor recommended flax seed oil/fish oil supplements for my ocular rosacea. I eat a lot of fish, take fish oil supplements and eat ground flax seeds (or take flax seed oil). I don't see or feel a difference in my skin or my eyes. In winter, I still get very dry. But it's also not getting worse (and I'm not currently taking prescription medication to treat rosacea, so maybe it does help?) Other people tell me my skin looks good, I usually see only what's not perfect (hehee, this happens all the time).

But don't let this discourage anybody from trying fish oil. I've met people who swear by it, like Happylife. It doesn't hurt to try.

Nicole and Inge, I also stick to pump bottles or tubes as much as possible. I can't believe that so many expensive and antioxidant rich night creams are still sold in jars. This kind of packaging can reduce their effectiveness, not talking about contamination.

I've read that about fish oil somewhere too, and was wondering if it really works. Do you find it makes a big difference in how your skin feels and looks HL?

Drinking lots of water: you're right Nicole, I'm not very good at that, but will be making an effort now that its getting colder here. I hope the HF SPF 30 works out for you!

Really, HL? YOu find it helps with your skin? I'll try it. I assume it is not synthetic based? Do you just buy it at teh drug store in the vitamin aisle?

I picked up Healthy Defense Spf 30 daily moisturizer with light tint yesterday. I'm excited to try it out today.

I think the key for me in the winter is 1. drinking lots of water and 2. regularly using a night cream. It's the indoor heat that does a number on my face.

Inge, I also use the Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily Moisturizer. I used it last winter, and it was just right for me, though I don't need a heavy moisturizer. Actually, I felt like I liked it on me during the winter better than in the summer. This summer, when I got a bit sweaty, I felt as though my face became oily/shiny. Of course, all skin is different...

What I forgot to mention earlier: I've been using this for about a month now, alternated with another moisturizer I'm using up. I am wondering a bit though how the Neutrogena will hold up in colder weather. It's meeting my needs for now, but during the Winter months my skin usually needs a richer product than in the Summer. We'll see how it goes.

I'm interested to hear what you think of it Nicole.

Pump bottles: they are definitely easier and more sanitary, but I think many people don't buy them because more product gets left behind in the bottle when it's almost empty and you can't get it out;-) So perhaps less economic?

Inge, that sounds like something I'd like. I'm going to look for that today, since I am scraping the bottom of my moisturizer/sunscreen now.

I like face creams that come in a pump bottle--not only is it easier to use, but more sanitary too. I don't know why more companies don't sell it that way.

HL have you tried Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily Moisturizer?
http://www.neutrogena.com/Prod.....tLineID=13

I have dry skin too and this seems to work for me (but I know that what works for one person doesn't always work for somebody else, it really is trial and error).
I like the convenience of a moisturizer and sunscreen in one + this one is not greasy, and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth (yes I know, it sounds like something out of an ad, but it's true;-)

Oh, I just noticed that they have it in SPF 30 too, there you can choose between 'light' or 'untinted', so maybe you could skip the foundation afterwards too?
The composition is somewhat different though, so I'm not sure if it would feel the same on your skin/have the same nourishing effect...

Quite right HL. It's just the SPF. You have to use moisturizer with it. I’d pack on the moisturizer twice a day if I were you. I have very dry skin and am virtually lathered in olive oil. Can’t do any harm!

I have some Elizabeth Grady products that I bought when I went in for a facial (face wash and mineral foundation) that I like...but I also use drugstore products for day and night moisturizing/spf. I use Berts Bees Night Cream and Aveno SPF 30 Daily Moisturizer. I do not have sensitive skin, but I do get dry skin in the winter months. As a matter of fact, I don't really use the night cream in the summer months. But it smells sooooo good...I'm tempted to use it all over my body.

Clinique has some great night creams - very nourishing and repairing. I like the Repairwear one... it's meant for mature skin, but with my dry skin I have some forehead lines already at 24, so it's nice to get a jump on dealing with those!

I really like the Clarins night cream. It is expensive though so I have to remind myself to use as recommended rather than how I slather on some products.
I have sensitive skin. I wish I could use a drugstore brand but they just don't seem to work for me.

I agree San. I will not use tons of layers. I know myself too well in that area.

I would like one product to moisturize and give me SPF protection. Then I put foundation over that.

I also am looking for a FAB night cream.

I use the Clarins moisturizer and over that I use the SPF 40. It's very light and non greasy like some are. It is not a moisturizer though.
I don't know anything about the other product you mentioned that is moisturizer with SPF 30.
Did you talk to the people at the Clarins counter about your specific needs? They will try to sell you a bunch of products to layer after layer which is good to a certain extent but I would use good judgement on where to draw the line for yourself. I do use some product under the moisturizer, and then the moisturizer, and then the SPF 40, and makeup when desired. I also like their hand cream but I don't want to go the whole nine yards with all the body products. You run into some big bucks with all of that.

Angie blogged about this product so I tried it (sample size) and found that it is just the SPF without moisturizer.

For mature skin that needs moisturizer have you found the Clarins SPF 30 with moisturizer to work for you instead of the UV protect 40? It says something about wrinkles on the tube too.

I live in a very dry area and really need moisture--- especially when the furnace gets turned on for winter!
