It is so hard these days to find a rain-proof coat with hood that does not make noise when you walk. I found mine at REI (REI brand) . You might consider a gear store.

I have this coat in navy:

http://www.patagonia.com/produ.....#038;sz=24

It’s waterproof and has a well designed hood. The liner is similar to a nanopuff. Considering I live in a desert, I’m surprised how much I’ve used it.

My husband always remarks how this should be a raincoat city, because umbrellas take up space on subway stairs, but almost everyone uses them anyway. You will fit right in!

Most of us in NYC just use umbrellas, but if you plan to walk all day, you may not want to. On the other hand, half of Manhattan's sidewalks are covered with awnings due to construction....

Bought and loved this one from Nordies: https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/l.....-petite-no
Worked great for casual and dressy in London breeze and wet, should be versatile due to removable liner, and has your requested hood.
(and it is available in non-black blush and camel colors too :) )
Maybe available expedited?

I have a pretty old Calvin Klein trench with removable hood. Although it isn't lined to be warm, it's very water repellent. I sized up, so that I can wear cozy clothing under it. In our climate, this has served me really well -- though it doesn't get as cold here as farther north, in NY. In my experience, rain gear tends to not be both dressy and warm, in one item lol!

Barbour waxed cotton? They have a lot of different cuts and styles -- some traditional field coats, but some more feminine too. I like the idea of a Boden Mac if you want brighter colours.

I’d wear my navy anorak which has a hood and fleecy lining. The last one Angie posted looks similar. If I needed something dressier I’d robably just wear one of my lighter wool coats.

Another option would be a trench with removable lining and hood. Burberry used to make one (my mom has one) but I don’t see it on their website right now. I think a regular trench would be just a little too cold.

Boden does great casual rain jackets, and by all means check out Uniqlo too. The ones from Boden are warmer and better quality.

Following with interest as I don't have one either. I have a picture of my current style interest, Trinny, wearing a really cool white one from Uniqlo (I think), which I want to copy. White in winter is off, I know - and not what you want...but the way she layered it was so cool.

I don’t think it is a very fashionable brand, but I really like my London Fog. It is picture 5 in this thread
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ts-of-pics

It is heavy and has a removable hood. I got It at Macy’s - they had a pretty good selection.

I can't do anything about it at this point for my trip to NY on Sunday, but I've remembered that I need a warm, dressy rain jacket, ideally with with a hood, since it's going to be raining and in the 40s F on a day that I was planning to be out walking around.

I tried on that Trina Turk one that Angie has, over the summer, when I was indeed planning ahead, but it unfortunately was not a good fit and I never came across another promising candidate.

What I have now is an old Boden fishtail parka in an olive and pink leopard/camo print (it is dog walking gear for me, really) and an LL Bean red shell jacket that I stole from my daughter. Fortunately, I'm not going to the office this time!

If you were going to choose a rain jacket or coat that was warm and stylish for city wear, what would you buy?

(Who knows, maybe I'll find one on Monday morning; too bad shops open so late in the city.)
