thanks once again for all the excellent advice! I have looked into purchasing a pair of pettipants - they do not have my size at the moment, but I have emailed to see when they'll have stock. I will be looking into the Jockey ones next! Not alot of solutions for it available in the UK - I figure because it doesn't get very hot for long periods? Or us British suffer in silence?? haha.

I have both pettipants and Jockey slipshorts. The pettipants are a tad bit cooler, but the Jockey's are a bit more comfortable. I sized down in the Jockeys and, for heat, I like the new wicking fabric version they're marketing this year.

I'll be trying bodyglide on my feet, but I'm not sure I want to feel my thighs sliding about!

Any of the creams or glides100% do not work for me. My thighs are too mighty for Body Glide, I need to have a physical barrier. Just one of the many reasons I don't like skirts or dresses.

Back when I did wear dresses I either wore pettipants or lightweight bike shorts.

The monistat chafing relief gel is my mainstay in the summer with bare legs and skirts. It is sufficient for a regular day without tons of walking. For those days or athletic occasions, I like body glide layered under the gel. I've never had much luck with aquaphor or stuff like that to avoid chafing, but it sure does help to relieve it in the evenings afterwards. I own a pair of the jockey slip shorts and I like them, but they're synthetic and they don't breathe at all. I end up wearing them in more formal occasions like a poor woman's spanx. I wouldn't want to wear them all day every day.

I find the best solution, honestly, is to wear shorts on those really hot humid days, but even shorts can allow for some rub depending on how short they are. I'd need something to the knee to keep my thighs from rubbing together at all. They're not terribly fashionable, but I do have a few pairs of those skorts that are full skirts with shorts underneath. They are invaluable on a day when you have to look reasonably presentable in the summer but be really active.

Thanks so much for asking this question--and all these great answers. I never knew there was a solution. I purchased some work out wear from Wally's to wear under a dress--but I was worried it would add too much bulk and be too warm. (At 50, right now, I am constantly too warm. I am doing my best to enjoy it! (grin).)

ETA: this summer--for the first time in years, I have decided to wear dresses again. So, this is timely info.

I like sporty items that breathe and wick sweat in hot weather. Think microfiber, super fine and lightweight. Try these lightweight bike shorts beneath skirts and dresses.

I use Shea Butter it has many considerable health and beauty benefits, something Africans and African Americans have known for many years ago. For centuries, it has been used
in countries such as Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso and other parts of
Africa. It has already been added to many cosmetic products and has
become a leading product throughout the market, from health food stores
and from online distributors.

African women used shea butter for so many years to protect and rejuvenate
their hair and skin. It works as a medicine to heal wound burns, sores,
scars, dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, and stretch marks and skin
rashes. It contains vitamins A and E, unsaponifiable, a type of fat and
other fatty acids that are efficient in moisturizing the skin, help in
cell regeneration, increase circulation and diminish wrinkles. It is a
natural moisturizer in protecting our skin from sun rays and retaining
skin moisture and elasticity.

It also provides moisture for dry, damaged or brittle hair from the roots
to tips and restores the luster of your hair. It also penetrates rapidly
and entirely into the scalp to rehydrate without blocking pores.

I love it because it naturally stops chaffing or rubbing.

Firstly, apologies for the crassness of my terminology. I like to make light of certain things pertaining to weight, the comedic side of it helps me to maintain a more positive body image - but I totally get why some would find it offensive, so I of course apologise.

Thank you for the excellent advice ladies - I have never known anyone else in my lifetime that suffers, or tells me they do, so i've never found any solutions. I will take a look at some of the products mentioned, and also try out the vaseline...maybe it will last longer than the other cream i've tried.

Many thanks again. And sorry again for any offence caused.

You've gotten great advice already. Here are some of my tricks:

1) Pettipants, as mentioned above (my favorite method. As Diana mentioned, the nylon ones work well and are cool and slippy)
2) Solid antiperspirant - prevents sweating and stickiness, and creates a barrier layer that helps skin glide
3) Bandelettes - they look like longer lacy garters for your thighs. They generally do stay put but I wear them for dressier occasions rather than out and about b/c pettipants are more comfortable.
4) Lace bike shorts - cooler and thinner than regular bike shorts

Weirdly enough, I don't get it. Astounding because I have big thighs, but I also have wide-set hips and carry my thigh weight on the outside. Yeah, I guess there is a silver lining to saddlebags (another term I hate, along with chub rub).

I personally don't like any of the ointments and sticks because they all make you feel sticky and honestly for me the sweaty/sticky feeling is a bigger problem than the actual rubbing. So I wear pettipants, basically like a nylon shorts slip. Bonus they prevent accidental flashing and solve the see through skirts problem. Don't get the cotton ones, they are way too thick and bulky. Stick with nylon.

Every single woman I have ever known, except ones with very wide hips and very slim thighs, has their thighs rub together. It is not limited to "chub." It's how women are made. In addition to the solutions noted above, there are non-stain ointments made specifically for runners that also work.

I get it and my son gets it. We've both used the two products Mary suggested but my son found something he likes a whole lot better. He grabbed the wrong tube one day and found out it worked so well and didn't need reapplying. You're not gonna believe this: vaseline in a creamy formulation. My husband uses this for his face and hands because he works outside and can get all kinds of small cuts and windburn. He claims that the appearance of his facial skin is like the fountain of youth. And that's true. He uses just the merest dab.
I think the reason it works is something I read long ago: it's the only substance (at least at that time) that bonds with the skin and makes it stronger. Anyway, it's a favorite at our house, cheap and possibly available abroad.

I used to have a terrible time with my inner thighs chafing when i was heavier. (I hate the term "Chub Rub" -- it just sounds so disrespectful of our poor bodies!) Anyway, a few things that help:

1. Body Glide Anti-Chafing Stick

2. Monistat Powder Gel

3. Bicycle shorts under your skirts or dresses -- not as warm as leggings if you get lightweight fabric!

Good luck and have a great holiday!

Do you suffer from Chub Rub? Please vote Y/N even if you don't reply to this post! :)

I have suffered with it every year since I was a teenager. It is excruciating. Lanacane Gel works very well as a preventative and healing measure - but it does wear off your skin after about 1 hour, so you need to reapply constantly. That's a bit tricky if you're on holiday or out and about every day.
I used to not bother about wearing skirts or dresses, but these days, with my growing confidence, I like to wear them. But curse that Chub Rub!!

I am going to Italy on holiday in July/August for 3 weeks - it is going to be extremely hot, and I am going with my 4 kids....therefore I will be constantly on the move in the heat, with little time for constant re-application of gels, plus cooling off time. :)

I want to wear dresses some of the time, I do plan to take linen trousers, but there are a few skirts and dresses I want to wear. Usually I would wear white leggings underneath - but my partner, an Italian, tells me that in the city it is much hotter than by the coast (which is where I went last time, and just managed not to suffer with the extra layer, but I would've been much more comfortable without them....were it not for Chub Rub)

Does anybody have any suggestions? I need to be able to purchase in the UK. I wonder if there is anything out there that offers some thigh protection without the added layer of heavy cotton like cycle shorts/leggings....I can't bear the thought of going through Chub Rub for 3 weeks!!
