Thank you for all the different replies!!!
Made for very interesting read.
Because of inclement weather one of my sons and his 8 year old granddaughter who had come to visit me cut their time short and returned home. We opened our gifts before they left Thursday. The paper that gifts were wrapped in and bags are very unusual, amusing and beautiful. I cannot bear to discard them. So I have decided to keep all . Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

I grew up saving wrapping paper but I just do not have the space or mental bandwidth for it now!

We do reuse Amazon (and other) gift bags. And now you all are making me want to do furoshiki!!

Here's where I got the last of my furoshiki cloths this year:
https://www.darngoodyarn.com/p.....ing-5-pack

They are so beautiful I'm tempted to use them as scarves.

My challenge is that every Christmas I use different colors for decorations. I have a collection of red, gold, white, bronze, pink and silver ornaments. This year it’s gold and silver, very minimal. I reused silver bags that I had but had to buy 2 gold ones. I think eventually I will have bags in all of my colors or will just give up! :)
Now I’m intrigued by the idea of using fabrics for wrapping gifts.

Jenn, I love your photo and inspiration. I have several Christmas and winter print fabrics (quilt fabric collector here) and I’ve intended for years to make drawstring bags. I’ve been put off by the reality that bags never fit the gifts of the year, no matter the size assortment, just like the paper gift bags I’ve bought in “bulk” before. But just hemming edges of large and smaller squares might be workable! Thanks!

We throw away paper gift wrap but save any bows for future. That being said, I don’t even use bows any more. I have cut up old cards for gift tags, punch holes and thread a small curly ribbon through, tape on to package. It gives a simple unified look. I don’t have too many packages since the adults don’t exchange gifts, and those for the two grandkids in Colorado have been sent.

We're avoiding physical gifts as much as possible- but use gift bags when needed. I used to reuse or recycle the paper.

We mostly wrap in a fabric collection that I keep from year to year. For those gifts that come wrapped I re-use. Fun to use for crafty things, even if only to decopage on a storage box to designate it as Christmas. Some wrappings are so beautiful.....

A little of both. I can usually salvage 50% of the wrapping paper, and almost all the bows. Haven’t bought new papers in 4 years - maybe longer. Stocked up on some beautiful ribbons when the thrift store had an enormous stash of them at deep discount - like 20 rolls for $5, or something like that. I think a sewing supplies store must have closed up, or something and the thrift shop got the stock.

Old Christmas cards get cut into rectangles with my rotary cutter, and I punch a hole at one end, and use them for tags.

This year I vowed not to buy wrapping paper anymore . I love it and get great pleasure out of creating a beautiful presentation with ribbons , bows , papers etc but none of them are recyclable here . I just can’t live with contributing so much garbage . We reuse as much as we can and then started on a roll of recyclable brown kraft paper . I also have a small collection of hokey looking fabric bags with things like “ North Pole “ etc printed on them that my husband is inordinately fond of . They do the trick .

We trash it, but I don’t think we’ve bought wrapping paper in 15-20 years. Somehow we have this same roll of paper, lol. There’s a lot of doing creative things with junk mail paper. Everyone’s a creative or an architect or something. We have cloth ribbons from when I was a teen that I got from Kmart. I’m rather sick of them tbh

If it is unique and/or good quality, I save and re-use. Some papers are very thin and tear easily, so sometimes there’s not much left to salvage.

Several years ago, DH bought some gifts on Amazon and paid extra for their fabric gift bags - so we have been re-using those many times.

It depends. We try to re-use it as much as possible. I actually have some fabric bags that we use for a lot of gifts and they have been going strong for almost a decade! Sadly, most of the pretty papers are not really recycle-able. So we sometimes use brown paper and draw on it, or we'll use newspaper. That, we recycle.

VIP question for everyone
When you unwrap your Christmas gifts do you keep the wrapping paper or trash/recycle it?
