Maya on "Christmas exchange?"

Donna, I don't think Angie and Tanya wear a 2 if that is the size they recommended for me. They probably wear a 0 or 00, so the rise might be a bit shorter.

Angie, I assume you mean they will be snug in the waist. I'm not sure about these for me. I have the inverse of your and Tanya's body type, but when you fall between sizes, it's easy enough to get an alteration. For me, there is no alteration available. Things just have to fit off the rack.

I already know I don't want the 4 since I want these pants to look sleek. I'm used to dealing with some snugness and digging in all of my pants and jeans, so if it's the same amount as usual, I can deal with it. They won't be as comfortable on me as they are on you, but I think that is to be expected.

I'd like to try them on in a store but have little faith in finding my size! If I have time I'll go.

The other option is to get the booties so I can at least make use of my current pants (the microchecks are currently at the tailor so they can let the hem out for heels). I will need some skinny pants eventually though, once I'm back in flats. What a headache. I wish I could get both, but I ended up spending my Christmas money treating my mom to tea.

Maya - I also tried ponte pants and just couldn't get past the knit fabric. I need a bit more structure and it looks like the BR pair would have that. If the rise is high enough these might work well for you. I'm interested to hear what you think if you try them.

Angie or Tanya - I'd love to know the rise measurement if you had the time to measure for me. I would need a size 4, but I could get a good idea with the measurement on your size 2. Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is what ultimately led me to return that pretty white pencil skirt. The 0 looked better, but the 2 felt better. Maybe BR doesn't fit me as well as it used to.

I could try both but I think it might end up being another similar situation to the pencil skirt. I don't think they're going to be as comfortable on me as they are on you and Tanya since they are not shaped for me.

The 2 will fit but might be a little snug in certain areas. The 4 might be more comfortable but not as sleek. These aren't pants that require you to cover up like leggings. I absolutely wear these with regular length tops too. Can you try both sizes?

I haven't been a 26 in over a year. I wear a 27 now, to fit both my hips and waist. Should I get a 4 then? Despite going up a size, I still wear a 0 or 2 in BR skirts (obviously I do not need to get the waist taken in).

Yes! Tanya and I are WOVEN “Ponte pants” twins. These were the pants I was describing in Laura’s post. I think they’re even more comfy than my sweats. I love them, and how I can dress them up for biz casual too.

I also had to take in the waist and mine fit like Tanya’s do. They’re stretchy, but don’t bag out. These are the only type of plain black pants I’ll wear, other than jeans or pinstripes and checks. They work well with voluminous tops and I adore them with booties. I think you should give them a bash. Hmmm. Probably in a 2. Maya, you wear size 26 jeans, right?

Here is the only photo I have, an old pic of the grey pair, I am sorry it's a bit blurry:

http://s300.photobucket.com/al.....CN4378.jpg

I'd say that they are pretty TTS. Mine are 0 and fit great at the hips, but I did need to have the waist taken in. I am still in my too-skinny state ( 23" waist, 35" hips, most jeans are 25). If You haven't changed much from when i saw you last in the summer, I would guess that 2 should work pretty well.

Thanks Tanya. Hearing your approval makes me feel more enthusiastic. Do you have any pics of you wearing them by chance? You don't have to take new ones, but if you have any on hand that would be very helpful!

Oh, are they TTS? How do they fit in the waist and hips? I haven't bought pants from BR in a long time so I'm not sure what my size is.

I would personally go with first option, skinny pants. I actually have the first pair you linked to ( in both colors) and they are absolutely amazing (Angie has them too). They fit nice and snug in the back, nothing like on the model, which probably has them in two sizes too big.

I am over ponte pants before I even got my hands on a pair! Yes, they were comfortable and looked nice, but the amount of trouble I have had to go through for a pair of black knit pants is ridiculous. They are not worth the effort.

So I'm left with the question of what to get in their place.

-Skinny woven pants: These would be good for work and they would replace my boring black slacks that I never wear or want to wear. But I honestly don't really *want* them. I just feel that I need them because I don't have any sleek bottoms to pair with longer or voluminous tops when I'm at work. They would also look nicer with flats. I feel dumpy in pants because they look bad with flats, but I think a narrower leg would work better. I could also tuck skinny pants into boots, which I can't do with my current options.

I'm also not even sure where to get a good pair. I thought I liked the ones they had at Banana Republic, but the back view looks terrible to me. I'm not sure if it's the way they are supposed to fit, since they are pants and not jeans, or if the model just needs a smaller size:

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=687156012

I LOVE these but they are too expensive:

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....pid=702771

-Shoes: I saw a girl on the train wearing adorable cognac flat oxfords and now I'm pining for a pair. I mentioned booties are on my list too. I have miles of shoes on my wish list so I will spare you the details, but those are the most seasonally appropriate.

-Bras: I could ask her to cover the cost of one of my bras for me, but that is by far the least desirable option. Getting a bra for Christmas? And one that I already paid for at that. Depressing. But probably the most responsible.

I'm trying to choose wisely because this will likely be the last new thing I get for a long time!
