I send around 65 cards to local and far away friends and family. Some years I write a short letter to print and enclose, but not always. It seemed I did that more when we were acquiring grandchildren each year, and we retired, etc. Not as much new stuff happened this year. We usually get at least 30-35 cards in return. </p> <p>Both my daughters send out and receive tons of family photo cards, the popular format among their age group.</p> <p>This year I painted an owl and sent it to a photo printer to have cards made. Occasionally I’ve sent photos of family, and I used to make cards many years ago. DH and I sent 25 cards this year. DH has family in the UK, and I have family in the USA. Our card list was dwindling, but after our move in 2014 we added some friends from the town we left, so the list went up again.</p> <p>So far we have received 5 cards and 1 e-mail from a card giver who announced that her card and mailing budget was being donated to a homeless shelter, so no cards from her this year. </p> <p>This year I sorted through my box of correspondence and sourced enough random Christmas cards from previous years to meet my needs with 2 to spare. Next year I will get new. I enjoy picking out the cards and often go for natural motifs that reflect my love of gardening and nature and DH's passion for forestry and wildlife. We also try to source our cards from charities like UNICEF, WWF, etc. </p> <p>I keep the cards I receive for a year and then recycle them in craft projects the following Christmas. Many years ago we received a card with an Asian winter scene. DS#2 was about 14 and asked if he could keep it. 2 years ago I had it framed for him as a Christmas gift.
