Amber will indeed melt and intense heat ruins it. It is very soft - 2 or 3 on the Moh's scale. I have a huge collection of geniune amber in many gorgeous colors and NEVER wear it in the summer.

I've been a rockhound practically since birth, so I am very informed about gemstones, minerals, pearls and amber.

I love the colour of #1. I have a ridiculous amount of amber, including pendants (thanks to many relatives in Poland), and find that sort of colour to be very versatile. It would depend on your colouring though - could you try them on to see which colour you're leaning towards? I do love the wirework on #2.

I like 3 the best but agree that if romantic isn't your style you might want to go for 1 or 4.

Barbara, I didn't know that about amber melting! I'll be careful from now on wearing mine on hot days.

I love #1 and think #3 is kind of a compromise between 1 and 2 (similar smooth teardrop shape) but I like the other metal.

Oh, I love 1, 2 and 3 - 4 is pretty, but not really in the same ballpark, as it isn't real amber. I think #1 is my favourite, for that beautiful colour, which had me just gazing at my screen! And it looks really tactile and smooth (if you like fiddling with your necklaces, like I do!).

I'm fond of three, as others mentioned it's a little more romantic though. I adore amber and have every color, green, honey, rich Baltic, lemon, only missing blue. If you have a lot of that rich color, perhaps you should expand your collection.

On a side note, real amber does not melt. Faux amber does. Real amber burns like incenses and it has a rich piney smell. It is used as incenses in many places still. That is actually one of the easiest methods of checking authenticity, you can also use solvents. Faux amber gets sticky. It doesn't really matter if its real, if you love the
piece though.

One of my favorite pieces I have is from a Russian artist and it is crystal clear and has been faceted. It has a Uniates slip clasp, lariat style, that is reminiscent of a treble clef.

I went through a similar search a few years ago and found an amber pendant with a very unique geometric silver setting in a shop in Tucson, and I still love it.

I'm drawn to the simple shape of 1 and the detail of 2, but I like 2 a little better for the unique setting. If you've been eyeing real amber, I think there's a chance you'll always be a little dissatisfied with 4.

I think you have to go with your gut on this one. I don't see #1 competing with the others because of the color, and if that is the color you want go with it. The other 3 seem more of a selection process because of the color alone. Are you able to get both #1 and one of the other more yellow ones?

Tough decision! They are all beautiful, but my eyes are drawn to the gorgeous wire work on #2. I design and craft sterling silver wire jewelry and especially love swirls. To me, an experienced wire artisan, this design is very fresh and modern because each piece of jewelry is handmade and no two are alike.

A word of caution: be careful wearing amber on a really hot day. A friend of mine had a favorite amber pendant melt in her glovebox! It is quite soft and fragile so store your amber jewelry in a velvet case with separate compartments for each piece.

Let us know which one you pick!

I think it depends on your style. If you have modern classic look, #1 or #4 would be the way to go. - I wish the #4 were genuine amber though.
#3 would be appropriate for someone who likes romantic, soft, vintage elements.
#2 looks most boho to me. It also looks a bit dated to my eye, because I've been seeing that type of metal bending for at least 15 years, which when I was in high school looked like quite a novelty - at least to me.

I've been looking for an amber pendant for sometime and I've found a few candidates. #1 is my typical style, rich in color and streamlined. However, there is something appealing about #2 and #3 that is capturing my attention so I'd like some second opinions so I don't pass up something wonderful. And then there is #4 which isn't amber (just amber colored), but it fits my general style.

Thank you in advance!
