It's such a tricky colour--a slight shade off and it connotes something else. I used to like chocolate brown many years ago, but found it hard to incorporate in my outfits, especially when it appeared in footwear. I noticed chocolate brown shoes on sale in greater availability than other sale colours.

Several years ago, I built a capsule around dark chocolate and pink - a combination that I've always loved. From that capsule I still have a brown leather jacket, tall boots, cord jeans and a cami, which I still wear occasionally, paired with denim and pale blues and pinks. I probably won't be buying any more brown, though - except for footwear and bags - as I don't find it so flattering with my newly-grey hair, but I still love it on others.

Suz, how about pairing chocolate with light blue and white or even berry and white or silver? I think that would look great. I think I'm going to do that, using fuschia as my berry tone. It's a great neutral. I used to wear chocolate and white all the time. It was one of my favorite combos.

I LOVE chocolate brown - it goes much better with my skin tone than black. My newest blazer has lots of brown in it and I couldn't be happier.

I was just looking in the Lord & Taylor flyer (they are having a boot sale) for a pair of dark brown over-the-knee boots. There is still a sea of black out there. Hopefully retail will catch on quick!

Agreed! Chocolate brown is looking so fresh and chic, and I've been feeling drawn to tall boots in chocolate brown for months now:-) I saw your Zara puffer in a brick-and-mortar store and was also admiring the chocolate brown piping. Both pairs of boots and the bag are stunning.

That Longchamp bag is gorgeous! Rich chocolate has always seemed European to me, very Italian chic. I was never a huge fan of chocolate for clothing but I love it in shoes, bags, and belts. I did hold on to a few chocolate clothing items from a decade or so ago. In my maximal pic, the old blazer I'm wearing is a brown herringbone. I remember feeling I needed something to freshen my wardrobe at time and brown felt very different to me. But, it feels odd when I wear it in a big way, I guess that's why I prefer brown in accessories. Interesting though, when I mixed the brown blazer with black, I actually liked it (and so did my SO). I don't know that I'll be adding anything brown but for sure I'll be playing with my brown orphans.

I love that color and it's better than black though still
Maybe not great face color. But I love it as a main color and even mixed with gray.
I have very little now because I gave up trying to mix with it as had ended up running 2 color palettes with black and browns and duplicating basics and accessories, and it got too complicated. At one time I thought I could replace black with brown but that just doesn't seem to work. Also it is often absent in nicer fabrications.
The trick is to find items that either form a small capsule or play with other cooler colors or bridge items. I have a dark chocolate belt with a black buckle-- similar to your handbag example.

I noticed something about dark brown -- even though I am a big fan of cool colors, I don't like my browns too cool. If I'm going to choose something in brown, I want it rich and a bit warm. The ashy brown colors look dull to me, and I wouldn't want to mix them with the cool colors I wear. I'd rather have the contrast and richness of the slightly warmer, redder brown shades.

This is very interesting. I haven't seen much around here yet but will definitely keep looking. I haven't liked it for several years but I do have some high-shaft booties in brown that I have had for a long time and never got rid of. They are a wedge heel but probably still look stylish enough. I wonder if I can wear them with black crops? I'll have to do some experimenting this weekend.

I had them altered to fit my calf and they fit perfectly. I haven't worn them in a while as I didn't have much brown clothing and they are sort of dressy.

I love chocolate! Heck, I love ALL THE DARK COLOURS! Haha!

OK, but seriously. I had noticed that chocolate was coming back, and I am very pleased. It has been nowhere to be found for simply ages. I remember that one of the things my late mum and I agreed on was colours, and we were both fans of chocolate brown. She thought it was classy, and a little bit "different" (that's how she used to describe something unexpected, but not unwelcome). I used to like it with pale pink, or a medium heather grey.

Right now I've got very little chocolate in my closet, but I did wear chocolate knit wrist warmers this morning with my army green dress. Sadly, wrist warmers are not an all-day accessory; they come off as soon as you go inside.

I'll add a bit of chocolate to my wardrobe as soon as I see the right thing. I'm on a one-in-one-out rule, and my closet is full of items I like, so I'd really have to find something special to replace an old item.
