You have to shrug them on through your head, because there are no zippers, but the fit is quite nice. I too have a horrible time with rise in general. I have a long rise, small hips... huh. So this time I was happy to find that this was not an issue. They also have a really nice white jeans skirt with buttons down the front. By curiosity - and also because of an unexpected forced wait at the mall - I browsed other stores in quest of a short pencil-like jeans skirt, or a pair of decent shorts. Well came back empty handed. I think a short pencil-like jeans skirt must not be the trend because I couldn't find any. And shorts were all the skimpy or large types. Nothing fitted like what you are wearing here. So I came back to Smart Set. That is where it seems to be happening for now. (BTW Gap, at least here in Ottawa, has really gone down! They have nothing exciting at all, much less things in general, and the cuts are really less than desirable. No, I don't think they are snug...I think it's a function of the camera, because in actual fact they are on the loose side. The one area that is a slight fit issue is the rise - no surprise there; I often have this trouble. I would size up (to wear them on the baggy side) and I'd probably like that, but they would fall right off my hips in that case. And it's not worth the alteration costs for this item. In my online journeys I found these shorts. I am in dire need of a pair of lightweight shorts and most I find in the stores here do not fit me well. In particular, the rise is usually awful for me and they are never tapered. So when I saw these, I ordered to try them. They fit (I think?) and are comfortable. </p> <p>Should I hem them a bit? (Pic 3 shows one leg a bit shorter.) Pic #2 is there at DD's insistence; she said, "Mom, you have to put that one in because it's sort of fitness and fashion all at once!!" What can I say? We humour our photographers. </p> <p>These are not really styled...although the truth is, this is about the way I'd wear them! They are intended for work at home and MOTG summer days. </p> <p>First with my white shirt; next with a $3 thrifted black H&amp;M top. I think the top is too short to wear with them, correct? Or could I put a belt through those loops and get away with it? </p> <p>What else would work with B&amp;W checks? Assuming, of course, you don't think I look too much like a half-baked chef! </p>
