Sounds like fun! Also a good lesson. I'm with Tanya, though I've had it backfire. My two pairs of moto boots were the result of thinking, "oh, I'll just try them on; they won't fit, and I can put them out of my mind."

Una, I often see so many things on line at Metalicus that I think I am going to explode if I don't have them lol. So when in Melbourne I go into the store and try on everything I think I must have, only find that much of it, while fab, it not quite right for me... definitely saves me some money lol.

Sometimes it is a useful realization Una - at least for the budget :-)
I don't get into the stores very often and their number is very limited in my city so sometimes I indulge in the same game online - like becoming a lemming in ordering JCrew Maddie pants after reading Angie's review and seeing them on some fabbers...well they were if not a total disaster on me but still a miss so back they went...and now I know and as you can survive without them!

Oh you bring me happy memories of being in Florida a couple of years ago and receiving endless boxes from NAS - almost everything went back. I really don't know what would become of me if I could try out all of Angie's picks, and all of the popular items on the forum for free and then return them.

Things on line really do look so different in the stores and trying them on is even worse. I find this true for the more high end though. High end is designed and shown on those 5 ft. 9 " models who weigh 90 lbs. On my several inches shorter and 25 lbs heavier just looks very different.

Very interesting. It happens to me quite often to covet something, but it is out of my price range. If I see it in the store, I make myself try the item on because more often than not it looks atrocious on me and my desire to own the item gets killed on the spot. Of course, sometimes the opposite happens, when the item fits like a dream and then I get in serious trouble, especially if it is something I do not need.

Yep...it's always a new experience in the actual store. And trying things on can certainly poison our "sugar eye." Take the butt vest on me, as an example. ;)

While I was in Florida last week, my sister and I snuck in an afternoon at the mall... I saw on tried on several items I've seen on Fabbers, including:

Karymk and Shiny's white AT Loft shirt. A total disaster on me - like a ship about to set sail in a high wind.
Janet's plaid Anthro dress: too long in XS regular, and I didn't want to bother with shipping a petite even though shipping is free if you order from the store. It's a great dress, though!

A Madewell was opening the next day - I begged them to let me in but they wouldn't. We didn't go back. Stopped into J. Crew, Athleta, and Nordstrom even though we have one here.

I did end up purchasing a black and white shift dress and panther print shirt, both from H & M, and an adorable overpriced running skirt from Lululemon.

It was fun to shop real stores and to discover that so many things I covet online or in catalogs are not so compelling in person - I can survive without shopping!
