Well done, Khris! I like the supportive teamwork, Michelle.

Oh no, Marianna! Sorry to hear that your dresser broke en route. Hope that your clothes storage is sorted asap. Glad you’re reconnected though. Phew. Moving is a mare. But it’s all behind you and you’re off to a great fresh food start already ;0)

Marianna, do feel free to text any time you're feeling stressed, or even if you want some healthy dinner suggestions. I can't guarantee that I can help, but you better believe I'll try to.

Angie, I haven't had internet in a few days because I was without my phone and our internet wasn't set up in the new place yet. But the internet is back up and I finally was able to replace my phone so I'm connected with the world again! I felt so out of touch. We're basically all moved in, except my dresser broke en route so now I'm without dresser and I have clothes in boxes and it's a bit of a nightmare! Other than that, everything looks great and this place is SOOOO much nicer than the last one. Much better lighting for outfit pictures! :)

Anyway... I haven't made a visit to the apartment fitness center yet, but I am planning to do so first thing this morning. After posting on YLF yesterday I felt reenergized about the diet and today I have eaten well so far. Our refrigerator is completely empty (not an exaggeration) so we've been eating out but I'm making good choices.

I guess the next step is going grocery shopping and preparing healthy meals in advance? That seems the only way I can stay on track.

I am so proud of myself- last night we ended up getting take out Thai food. That's my favorite, and hubby wanted to get a coconut milk based soup and a coconut milk based curry, and pork with a peanut sauce- all faves of mine, and all really high in calories. I asked him to just get me the beef salad (which is really just a marinated steak on a bed of cabbage/carrots). I didn't eat any of the other food (except one piece of dd's fried tofu), and I have already looked up the calorie content of the leftovers to see if I can fit those into my meal plan for lunch. I had to round my calorie intake down again yesterday. I have hurt my arm/back/shoulder and it is causing me to be much more sedintary than I would like. The good news is that I ate within that new calorie range and dropped two pounds overnight. I know this new range will work for me, at least until I can get back to being more active.

I find that smaller, more frequent meals and pre-prepped food really help me, too. I don't do it on the weekend (because honestly, the weekend just means that there are more people underfoot and no schoolwork to send kids to do), but every few days I cook/prep something else so that I have a rotating inventory of easy foods on hand. It's stressful times that make everything harder, and I like to have a small arsenal of fast foods that I know I can eat on plan with. That way, I don't have to feel guilty about those nights (or afternoons out) that I can just not deal with cooking. Hubby is even learning to suggest those places when we eat out, because he knows it will make me happier.

That’s impressive, Michelle. You are going like a Boeing! Keep up the brilliant will power.

Aha! Marianna, I have missed you. You have a LOT going on at the moment. Are you more or less moved into your new digs? I hear you. But the fact that you are making a conscious effort to NOT turn to food when you are stressed is fabulous. That is a lot more progress than you give yourself credit for. Well done! So when you feel stressed, text Michelle or climb onto the forum. That should help. Have you got a new phone, btw?

I also like to prep healthy food over the weekend. It really helps. I have no doubt that you will have it all figured out soon, Marianna. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Kyle, you and I do exactly the same thing, i.e. dedicate part of Sunday to preparing healthy options. That's the best way I have found to ensure that healthy work lunches/fuss-free dinners are readily available. I also always try to have fruit on hand (apples, grapefruits and clementines being the current stock), because they serve as great snacks or desserts and take the edge off if I get hungry. I also found it hellpful to eat smaller amounts steadily throughout the day, which prevents me from actually letting my appetite build up a head of steam.

Like Marianna, I have always found that I do better when I plan and have healthy options easily available.

I typically prepare as much as I can on Sunday for the week ahead. I like to make chicken and bag it up into 4-oz portions so I always have some lean protein available so I never get too hungry. But in a pinch, I will buy a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store and use the white meat sans skin. It's slightly less healthy, but still lots better than fast food, and you can whip up a quick salad and add the chicken to that. I also go for the pre-packaged carrots and celery and also try to always have some apples, grapefruit and oranges on hand.

I also keep a log of my weight so I can easily spot if I am moving out of my comfort zone and take corrective action. This has been very important to me in terms of staying on track.

Here's to staying focused and healthy through the holidays!

Hang in there, ladies -- change is hard, but also so exciting.

Marianna -- there is no doubt that preparing healthy food is a lot more work than preparing the other kind. Good for you for making the effort!

I didn't get a chance to reply to the other threads, but I really wanted to chime in here and say that I think you are both (and Khris, you too of course, you are looking SO slim!) doing very well!

Michelle: I'm in awe here. The mere thought of those baked goods makes me drool;-)

Marianna: It's a common fact that moving house is a notoriously difficult time to stick to any type of healthy meal planning (just ask around, you'll hear stories of take-out Chinese and eating pizza for weeks, if not longer, on end). Add the stress of the job insecurity (I'm a total stress eater myself) and it get's even more challenging. I really think it's very positive that you are making a conscious effort and that you are actually aware of how you usually react to this type of situations. That's always the first step, now you can try to start thinking of other ways to deal with it.

And yay, a gym so close by, let us know what type of equipment/exercises you will be trying?

I've had a really busy week (worked a lot of hours, moved to a new apartment) and will admit that I have struggled a bit. I'm having a hard time balancing being busy and preparing healthy meals ahead of time. I'm doing okay, not horrible or anything, but I could be doing better. The only really good news I have is that my new living situation has a gym so I can start exercising and hopefully that will motivate me and energize me. My job situation for next season is still up in the air so I'm sort of stressed about that and I generally turn to food when I'm stressed. I'm trying to reverse that habit and not eat when I'm stressed. I am really making a conscious effort.

So far, so good!! I'm still being quite strict with myself. My brother and I were taken out for a steak dinner this week (a holiday tradition with a family friend), so I saved all my flex points for that and haven't gone over my daily target at any other time. I'm still logging my food intake daily, too.

At this point I find I'm less hungry, which is excellent. Today someone placed a veritable smorgasbord of baked goods right near my desk, and I didn't take a single thing.
