I am a sucker for blue-through-green colored polishes, but have realized that I don't really like to wear them as much as oranges and reds. I don't find them intrinsically unflattering though (esp. since those are my favorite colors to wear in clothing!), those shades are fabulous and can be flattering as long as you find shades that match your skin tone. I'm an equal opportunity polish wearer, though. Before that, I was wearing a deeper shade of blue. The blue/green polish works well for me; I'm not a fan of red/pinks on my nails. I am kind of late to the professional manicures, but find that my hands look so much better if I take care of them in this manner. I do not do gel/shellac manicures. I am lucky to have strong nails and keeping my nails polished encourages me to take better care of my hands (as in wearing gloves to do the dishes, not using my nails to pick at things, etc.). I know it's selfish and self-indulgent to do manicures and many of my friends mock me for this. But it's my little cheap thrill and about the only self-loving thing I do on a regular basis. Another client in the salon recently was talking about how she was "too old" for non-trad polish. She was 10 years younger than I (I am 57). I told her I thought it was more a state of mind than actual age. And it's also not a huge commitment. if you don't like it, take it off.
