When my hair is healthy, it’s naturally very dense but very fine at the same time. So basically, there’s a a lot of it but the hairs themselves are thinner than bobbin thread. To top things off, it’s curly. So hot, humid climates (like my home city of Rio de Janeiro) are my hair’s worst enemy if I plan on doing a blow out and flat iron. Don’t get me wrong, I love my curls… but it feels so good to run my hands and fingers through smooth, silky strands without having to worry about frizzing out my hair. The climate in Portugal is ideal for blowouts during the colder months. It’s not quite as dry as the warmer seasons but it sure beats Rio. Warmer weather tends to lower my blood pressure, which is already naturally low, often leaving me listless and lethargic. So I style my hair with curl creams and gels, brushing it only during this stage and still very wet. I scrunch and diffuse if I’m not in a hurry but sometimes I just let it air dry. This photo was taken roughly ten years ago and my “photographer” friend Facetuned my face until it was barely recognizable, but that was more or less what my natural hair used to look like when I took the time to style it properly. I’ll add a photo with straight hair if I can find a decent one.

I mainly use body and foot cream more religiously in the summer…that crepey dry skin can’t hide as well. I use sunscreen year-round on my face, but I might add a hat in warm sunny weather. I’ll also do/get a pedicure once my toes are bared.

Mr. A and I have recently gotten to appreciate a natural deodorant that actually works really well (!!!) and does not give me - the sensitive skin one - a baking soda burn. It's called No Pong (Aussie brand) and that is the biggest change we've both made.

I do use a Eucerin sunscreen lotion on my face and neck but prefer SPF clothing to sunscreen on the rest of my skin. This summer I have gotten Mr. A on board with wearing this sort of hat. I love that it comes in sizes (I have a large head and he has a rather small head) and light-colored 100 SPF pants, both for sun and for spotting deer ticks.

We also stock up on Zanfel, which is a poison-ivy miracle.

No big changes for me- just sunscreen when needed and powder foundation instead of cream. Some days I just let my hair air dry and hope for the best!

My toenails are painted most of the year, cause I wear sandals anytime it's over 60. Legs/underarms get shaved daily- year round.

The one thing that changes for me is more sunscreen! I change out my foundation for the Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Flex with spf 50, which has enough coverage to work as a foundation for me.

I also do a round of self tanner about once a week in the summer months, which I usually don't bother with the rest of the year.

Oh, and shaving of course. I'm lazy in the winter months, but in the summer I shave my legs pretty much every day, as I have very dark hair that grows super quickly. I am seriously considering investing in an at-home laser device.

My biggest change is with my hair, which gets drier and frizzier from perspiration, sun, etc. I use a hair suncreen that's very moisturizing. The downside is that it can cause build up that weighs my hair down. So I use a clarifying shampoo that doesn't dry my hair out every 3rd or 4th washing. It's like a reset button and makes my conditioner more effective. I get temp hair color about 3 times per year, but skip it in the summer and let the white hairs become a little more prominent.

Janet, the Creme with Silk Groom is kind of perfect as it just gives a bit of soothing to the hair that wants to fly away. My hair is more waves than curl though it can get Shirley Temple ish on me without some taming. :)

You can get on the "notify me" list on the Kiehl's website. https://www.kiehls.com/hair/ha.....2/262.html (though I usually buy all my beauty and hair products from Nordstrom...habit of living in Seattle for so long). Kiehl's did send out an email in early May that it was back, but it came in the middle of the night for me, and I suspect people are buying in bulk now so I missed it and it's out of stock again. But at least there's hope, and they know that it's not good to discontinue!

Nail painting. I used to paint toe nails for sandals but no longer wear them. Nail care is more of a daily thing in summer as I wear more fabric shoes and toe nails that are too long or sharp can ruin them quickly.

So interesting!

I’ve been wracking my brains. Not one seasonal change in beauty regimen comes to mind. Not for hair, skin, body or spirit. I don’t paint my nails. I use sunscreen daily so it’s the same routine. Like everything else

My hair is the biggest change with the seasons. I let it go more natural in the summer as I wash it more often and just let it dry. I more often use a salt spray on hair.
Sun screen is also added to the routine. And earrings and bracelets play a bigger part as summer outfit completers. They add to outfits without adding to warmth. The bracelets won’t be a problem with coat sleeves. Underarms, toes and legs get almost daily shaves as they are more on display. Good topic.

Not much change for me - other than polishing my toenails and shaving a little more frequently. My hair fights frizz year round and I always have to experiment with different products, seems a little worse in the summer which makes sense. Mine isn't as curly as yours and gets weighed down easily. I sure wish I had a magic hair solution!

Ha, I don’t have a grooming routine. No hair product just regular shampoo and conditioner. I own 3 hair products and use them very seldom. Sunscreen on sunny days. No moisturiser.
About twice a year for parties I paint my own nails.
One benefit of getting older is the almost disappearance of leg hairs. I was going to use the usual depilatory cream (Veet brand) before the wedding trip but there was so little there I didn’t bother.
I don’t like beauty “work” ever since reading The Beauty Myth when I was 30. Sadly Naomi Wolf appears to have gone rather off-beat since then

I have experimented a lot with sunscreens that don't stain my clothes for my neck and arms, and now feet as well. I always wear sunscreen but now have more exposed skin. No other major changes.

I don't really change my routine much, except reapplying sunscreen if I'll be exposed.

This curl serum keeps my curls more defined and w/o frizz better than any product I've tried. I rake it thru my post-shower wet hair and then don't touch it again. I almost never use my dryer (with diffuser); just let it dry naturally.

My routine remains the same...just face moisturizer and a hair cream for the frizz. Hands down the best for my hair was Kiehl's Creme with Silk Groom. I used it for 20 plus years. I stocked up on the big sizes and then when I went to resupply, found it was unavailable, and had been that way for some time. Turns out Loreal bought the company and discontinued the product. Why?? People are NOT happy about this. Read the angry reviews! (and some tubes selling for 150 dollars on ebay, crazy!) They do say they are going to bring it back which is good news because Kiehl's serum is not as good, I find.

I currently alternate between Olaplex Bonding Oil and also Leonor Greyl Styling Creme. Both are pricier...and still not as good as my old standby, but I only need a very small amount of product to do the job and they smell great. Another thing that has helped my frizz quotient has been to use New Wash (I use Deep) instead of shampoo and conditioner. That's been a real game changer for me. Pricey too, but I don't need to use it every day.

Have you tried adding a bit of oil to help with the frizz? I like Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Finishing Oil. It’s very lightweight, but helps with the Irish Setter ears my hair makes in humid places.

My routine used to change more than it does now in that I used to wax all winter long and then shave in the summer (so as not to have to grow the hair long enough to wax, thus being more visible). However, I've been waxing long enough (and I am sure age doesn't hurt in this regard, either) that the hair grwos back fine enough that I now wax all year round.

Oh, and I polish my toenails a brigh color all summer and generally don't in the winter.

I let my hair grow as summer approaches and then generally braid it or otherwise tie it back in the hot weather. Then I get it cut in the fall again. Because I keep it pulled back, I don't worry much about frizz. That, and my hair is straight to begin with.

I wear sunscreen on my face and hands every day, winter or summer, but I apply it to any other exposed areas in the summer, too. That isn't so bad in that I often use a spray on arms and legs. But while exercising and more and more in everyday, I wear sun protective clothing. It cuts down on the need for sunscreen and I don't run as warm as I used to so long sleeves aren't necessarily stifling on many days.

Just the addition of sunscreen in hot weather.

I use Cantu leave-in conditioner. It works really well for me

I can’t say that there’s that much change in my routine beyond adding sunscreen and a hat if I plan to be outdoors for an extended period of time.
I don’t mind the humidity for my hair, it adds some volume and wave which is much better than the dry heat of winter sucking the life out of my hair.
No real makeup is worn anymore, no matter the season. Skin won’t tolerate it, just some moisturizer and coloured lip balm.

I lighten my hair for the summer but keep it short . Once I have a bit of colour on my face I use less makeup and wear a tinted moisturizer , mascara , and some lip colour . Eyeliner occasionally . I also change fragrance too .
I am not a sunscreen fan either and know exactly what you mean about how onerous it seems vs reg body lotion . I do use a tinted facial sunscreen on non- work days and always spray my ears and chest/ neck when I’m outside .

My hair is thick and coarse and frizzes in humidity, which we have tons of here for months on end. So, my hair is shorter in summer, so I can let it do its thing with abandon.

Makeup is the same, I just wear brighter lipstick. My moisturizer remains the same, and I try to remember to put on sunscreen, since I fry in the sun. If I forget, I am very quickly reminded.

Do you keep up the same grooming regime year ‘round, or change things up seasonally? Do your seasonal routines require the same investment of time, energy, and/or products?

Straight hair was so easy for me this past winter - after I invested in a Revlon air brush. My cut was designed with the blow out in mind. With summer’s increase in humidity, and inescapable curls and frizz, I’m better off leaving the tool in the drawer until fall, and letting my hair do it’s own thing - with a little help from leave in conditioners and frizz fighting products. I even got a few layers cut in to avoid ‘ triangle head’. (I’m still looking for a miracle product to fight frizz, so recommendations always appreciated.)

Head to toe sunscreen application is a chore, and I always worry about the possibility of staining on clothes - but it’s a necessity. Somehow the application of body lotion in winter doesn’t seem as onerous. I lighten up my facial moisturizer in summer. Make - up routine remains the same.

What about you?
