The good thing about shorter hair, as I have discovered this week, is that it air-dries faster. I mean duh, right? But I have been struggling with trying to get nice-looking "second day hair" for a while, trying various long hair tricks like only washing my scalp and spritzing dry hair in an effort to avoid wandering around with a wet head half the day. I really prefer air-drying my hair and encouraging it to be curly.

Anyway, in the last few days since I had it chopped I have found it much easier to just wash my whole head every day. I get better curls this way and with the new shorter length it doesn't take so long to dry.

Have you tried any of the "curly girl" methods? You might find that you can encourage your hair to be a bit curlier and less shaggy-looking.

I'm imagining something like this lady -- the website is pretty crappy but I like this look:

http://hairsnoop.com/womens-na.....ights-50s/

I am sorry for your 'bad-hair-month'!
If you are heading into the cooler weather have you considered wearing hats more often whilst it grows?
Claires pics are great, and I think that layers can be very flattering and light around your face too.
I have a friend who recently lost her hair after chemotherapy, so whenever I am unhappy with my do I try to think about how she must be feeling right now.

Thanks, Donna! Mine is not curly, but has a definite 'wave' that looks like a bad 60's flip....I did try a wave booster, in the hopes that it would look better, and it does- the day I wash it. But that's it..... the next day, yikes! I have 'peanut' head I like my stylist 9I really do, but this was just a all-round bad choice for me) She did ask if I was 'sure' I wanted this and I stupidly said yes.....

I quite sympathize. After DECADES of super short spikey hair, I decided to grow mine out, plus let it go gray. It is so-o-o-o much easier to go shorter than to go longer. My hair was shorter than a pixie, and what I wouldn't do to have it at least shag length! My hair grows super fast, but I guess I hadn't realized how super short the shortest bits were, so now it doesn't hang right, and there's nothing really to do but wait. and wait. and wait. And still get a trim on a regular basis to shape what can be shaped.

But maybe you're still getting used to your new 'do? Since your hair sounds curly, I would experiment with different hair products. Also, a friend of mine with super thick, curly hair was much happier after she started to see a stylist who specialized in curly cuts and wasn't afraid of her hair.

Thanks SO much! Ive had the cut for about a month and am *hating* it more every day I really appreciate the pics, but with my fat face and turkey neck, it aint pretty I do go to a fairly high-end salon (in this area, $60 for a cut) I will just chock this up to a bad,bad mistake and see what she can do at the next cut i about a month (I did go in about a week after the first cut) she re-did it, but now it looks like I have been electrocuted after it's washed, and a cross-between a bad 70's 'feather-cut' /fright wig if I dont straighten it and if I do, I resemble one of the 3 Stooges

Aww, I hope that you'll come to really like it! It sounds like you're being too hard on your cut, and on yourself!

There's often that shock at the change, but given a little time, and the chance to wash and style it yourself a few times, you might enjoy the change up.

Lisa Rinna has a fantastic shag haircut, and she has sported one for years. I've often wondered about going from a bob like mine to a shag like hers here's a link to some images. Maybe they will inspire you!

I hope you're feeling better about your hair.

I have always had short hair, (20 yrs or so) and there are several things I do to feel good about myself

Mascara
Lipstick
Earrings.

Because all of a sudden it feels like your face is on show, especially if you didn't have short hair first.

So sorry to hear! I've had this happen to me. Sometimes going back to the salon helps. I know it's a shag with a lot of layers, so it might end up being shorter than you might normally wear it, but they might be able to do something different. Good salons don't want their customers to be unhappy and will usually do whatever they can to help you be more satisfied.

I've had this experience - I now call it the shock of the new. My advice is to give yourself a couple of weeks before you do anything irreversible. Sometimes we just need some time.

I have now short, natural reddish hair (slightly grey-maybe 20%, cuz Im turning 52 (!!) next month) CF, I will try and look, and also see if more makeup will distract...although I got me a big ole fat face to work with! I can see if DH's camera wil take the shock for a pic and not break down!

It's never as bad as we think. Sorry you're feeling frustrated, but there is most certainly something you can do to make it work better for you in the meantime. I don't know what hair type you have (long, short, black, brown, etc.) so I'm going from just a description of a "shag" here but I'd say I would look at some shag cuts online by searching for "shag haircuts" and see what images pop up. Color can make a difference too, like highlights, lowlights, etc. Makeup can also make a big difference if you want to defer more focus to your eyes for example.
