Posting a photo on the internet is probably never going to happen for me - and Cocolion's reaction to non-posters did sting, I'm afraid. At the time it felt like a very big step for Angie to post those photos. It was very exciting, and a bit scary.</p> <p>Ultimately it's a balance. It warmed my heart. I have been one of the lurkers on this blog previous to Angie ever having posted a picture of herself. Another lurker friend of mine and I were so excited to see how beautiful she looked the first time she presented herself in a photo. She might have been shopping at Anne Fontaine in Paris. &nbsp;I respect your outlook on sharing photographs in a public forum. Not every reader wants to put pictures of herself on line; frankly, I can't quite put my finger on why I don't, even though I think I might have something to offer in conversation. I do know that it is the participants who post pictures that receive &nbsp;the most feedback, so that is why I do not go out of my way to join conversations. I do want to mention &nbsp;that I made a fashion acquaintance &nbsp;5 years ago through your forum &nbsp;who DOES post at times, and she has become an important fashion friend and sisterly confidant. I have YLF to thank for that gift of friendship. <br />There is a small group &nbsp;of us &nbsp;that actively read your blog daily, &nbsp;taking in all the wonderful advice, shopping some of the picks, discussing the trends, and always looking forward to the next post. We have our own group emails going several times a week with our own comments and queries. So, I thought that some of your readers may be interested to know how YLF touches &nbsp;many fashion forward women and what an important component it is in many &nbsp;lurkers' lives. Many of today's active posters were quiet for a period of time before they started posting at all. So sometimes it is about moving through stages of increasing comfort with the community. Some people move faster than others, and some never get to the point of feeling sufficiently comfortable to dive in and post a photo.</p> <p>The other thing I can't help but do is draw a parallel to my own relationship with photos. I love taking them of other people but I have a really hard time being in front of the camera. I'm lucky to get a pass because my other half puts herself out there enough for both of us. But I do understand how hard it might be to post that first set of photos. I am sure that what you and Suz are doing will make it easier for people to take the leap.</p> <p>Also, I love the idea of asking non members to visit your blog.</p> <p>Elizabeth, everyone who signs up immediately gets to "member" level. The short way of putting it is that unless you choose otherwise, "quiet" members can see your photos.</p> <p>The longer version:</p> <p>Previously there were two options:</p> </p> <ol> <li>everyone can see my photos</li> <li><b>only active members can see my photos</b></li> </ol> <p>Now there are three:</p> </p> <ol> <li>everyone can see my photos</li> <li><b>only members can see my photos</b></li> <li>only active members can see my photos</li> </ol> <p>The bold options are the defaults.</p> <p>My <a rel="nofollow" href="http://youlookfab.com/2015/06/02/visibility-of-member-photos-in-the-forum/">post on the blog</a> explains our thinking behind the change, but the essence of it is that we don’t want (in)visibility of photos to force people to participate. Our whole reason for starting the forum was that the answer to one person’s question could be useful to other people who have the same question. We respect that some people enjoy reading YLF, but prefer not to actively participate. And often people are quiet for some time before they decide to jump in.</p> <p><i>Note: what is unchanged is that unless you explicitly choose otherwise, your photos will only be visible to logged in members.</i></p> <p>If you ever set this setting in the past, then I have transitioned it over. If you never explicitly chose a setting before, then you will inherit the new default setting. If you have any doubts at all, please just visit the “Privacy” section on your profile page to check your current setting and change it if necessary.</p> </p>
