Secondhand Shopaholic: That is too funny...I suppose I may be in the minority in this regard.

I am excited to recharge my wardrobe a little and eventually a lot! My mind just kind of gets dizzy and then goes blank when I go to look at clothes. It's a state of overwhelm because I don't know where to begin.
I make lists and then they just get longer!

BUT...I am taking a SHORT list next time I go shopping! (Which may not be till after NewYears.) The first items on my list will be a long sleeve top (maybe tunic) and a cardigan . Suggestions welcome...it is a cold winter here.
I do agree that I should not force myself to spend but just keep the $ safe (from myself!) until the next shopping trip and cash flow.
And thanks for the reminders to only buy what I really like. I may have to remember the cherry picking idea as a mantra!
I am going to get myself into the habit of taking pictures as well.

Jean, thank you so much for posting this challenge. As I admitted, I have the opposite problem, but all of these suggestions about "cherry picking" and making sure items fit and flatter and fill a need in the wardrobe are SO appropriate for me to read!!!! I feel like I have found the fashion/shopping mentor(s) with YLF that I have always so desperately needed.

So I apologize for piggybacking on your question/challenge, but I wanted to let your respondents know that their suggestions are being heard by me too!!!

Great idea just be careful you don't end up buying things that you don't love or don't fit correctly just because you've set yourself a challege. Angie i think once siad your wardrobe should only be full of cherries (cherry pick the best clothes). remember you can post piccies of new purchases if you're unsure sometimes they just need a second opinion x

I would add a twist to your challenge - if you do not find something you love that week for $15, you put that money aside, and the next week (or however often you go shopping) you will have $30.

Discounters, consignment shops, and thrift shops are especially good for what I call "serendipity shopping"--you didn't realize how useful it would be, or how good it would look, until you chanced upon it. You can play with your limited weekly budget without risking much.

Keep in mind that it doesn't matter how cheap it is--always make sure that it fits, flatters, and fulfills a need in your wardrobe.

Wow. Is there a way we can siphon some of my desire TO shop and inject it in to you, then inject some of your lack of desire to shop, and inject it into me??

Hi Jean-
Great challenge- I think setting aside $$ and allowing yourself the freedom to buy some things for yourself is really important! And yes, when you add a few things to your wardrobe, you won't get as tired of things so quickly. Can't wait to see what you buy!

I remember reading in this forum somewhere from someone who said they had a hard time actually buying things...just couldn't decide or commit. I am wondering if forcing myself to buy some things every couple weeks would get the ball rolling.

It dawned on me that the two tops I posted from TJMaxx were both about $15. I think I can afford $15 every couple weeks + maybe a couple goodwill items if I happen to find good stuff.

Those tops I posted? I'm getting pretty sick of them because they are about the only fashionable things I have and I wear them at least once a week, sometimes more. But once I get some new items hopefully the fun of wearing them will come back!

I know I can't build my wardrobe entirely this way but could it be a start?

I also have a wish list of higher ticket items such as tall boots, fashionable sneakers, some jackets. I plan to save for those.

I did purchase a new wool coat this week with some early Christmas $. I will post that sometime soon for accessory suggestions.
