Angie, this is a great challenge and one I definitely need to accomplish. I have been living at the campground all summer and basically spent the summer in denim bermuda shorts, knit tops/tanks and swimsuits. My work wear consisted of an ugly button up shirt that was the required uniform and jeans.

We will be home in just under two weeks and I will get started. I will be changing jobs and will go from jeans to business casual so I need to get some work wear organized and ready to go.

I always have a donation bag going and currently have three garbage bags at home ready to be taken to donation. My shopping/thrift hobby has had a great summer as the local thrift store has certain colored tags on sale for 5 items for $5 every Friday and Saturday and I have found a lot of fun new items that i just love so time to let go of the things that just don't make me as happy.

I also hang on to things too long and have started realizing a lot of my shoes and coats are very well loved and starting to look a bit shabby so it's time to be brutal and let them go as well. Thanks for the challenge and inspiration. Looking forward to getting home and getting started.

Funny, I’ve been in editing mode for a couple weeks without realizing this challenge was in place! We finally have genuine fall weather here, and the change of seasons often inspires closet editing for me. I’m bringing a dozen items to Goodwill for starters.

I'm in a similar situation to gradfashionista. I am postpartum with a 10 week old, my second child, so my weight is still changing. Also, we are considering having another child in the future. For now, I am just slowly switching out the maternity clothes for items that I can wear this fall and winter. Dresses that can't work with breastfeeding also get boxed away for a while. Unfortunately, it means I have more clothes than I can wear at a time, but based on experience with the first child, I will bring out those items again when the time is right (and the clothes fit).

That said, I'm setting aside clothes that I know I won't wear regardless for donation. So maybe it counts as a mini, soft edit?

After a massive purge late summer, and since I have had a sort out and a smaller edit. So I am learning the more frequent, the easier it gets.

I did a good edit of uncomfortable shoes last weekend. I have a blouse to go this week to the charity shop. I feel a scarf edit coming on next weekend.

I am learning to like a good edit. The edit posts are inspirational.

I edit all the time, since I practice one in one out policy. I have a huge box in my closet where I put those ‘out’ items and when it is full I bring it to charity. It is completely full at the moment since I did quite a bit of shopping in last few months and it is time to do another donation.

All the best for everyone, but not going to join in with a full scale, try everything on edit on my own.

With a lot smaller wardrobe, budget and number of clothes added to my wardrobe than most here, and a busy time, I don't feel the need at this point.

I will however we culling a few things that I have already in my mind as ready to go, particularly in my "sweater" drawer.

I also have a few things in "temporary keep" mode - things that are waiting on a replacement to be bought so they can be culled.

Crazy month, so I’m committing to before 1/1/2019. But already thought of some items to possibly let go of. But just this past week wore something I would have gotten rid of.

Will consider and report in if there is something to report. I do both purge as I go and do wardrobe edits.

Actually during the September tracking challenge I wore several items I had many times considered purging.

Count me in, I have done the easy stuff today and have a pile of clothes to donate, but there is more work to be done. I need to edit my make-up drawer too and do the next layer of editing.

July to September is very busy for me at work, mentally I set aside October to be a month where I would be more nurturing towards myself. However, as luck would have it, an urgent job came up and I was working late, until 10pm again this week.

This post helped me to say, start TODAY. So the healthy eating plan, an at home facial (I am sitting at my computer wearing a face mask) and exercise happened. I said no to a glass of wine and ice-cream because they are temporary treats that are not what I need. I am feeling positive and in control.

YES - I can do this!

I've been on a whole house edit recently. As I sort through my fall/winter clothing I've so far donated 4 bags of clothing and 2 of shoes. I need to hone in on my new work attire. I've donated strict business suits and some dresses, but have a few in holding zone (just in case). I find if I try to do it all at once I am more critical of what I let go. If I do it in small batches I'm more likely to pass along items.
Congrats to all participating! What a great feeling it is!

We're moving at the end of this month, so editing is being done as I pack - minimally, at least! A lot of my wardrobe needs washing/checking for stain and rips, so most of it is just getting bundled to be sorted properly once we're in the new place, but I have seen over the summer how much I'm not wearing and can therefore get rid of.

Massive clear-out going on with Child's wardrobe as we pack too - so much stuff she's grown out of that we'd never got round to.

Yay! I love a good edit.

I already edited a LOT of stuff before our move. Some donated, and some in a temporary holding zone back in Kingston, pending discoveries about what I might or might not want in the current climate.

Even so, I think there may still be an item or two that I can get rid of this month. Is it "cheating" to report on what I edited just before our move in September plus whatever I do this month, or would that be okay? I have a list and (many) of the Finds.

Hooray! I’m so happy to see this post and all the links. I have a three day weekend, and will have some time to sort and try on clothes. I started an edit a few weeks ago with my jeans. I culled all the pairs with a low and/or mid rise. I also did a very quick sort of my coats and pulled out two that I no longer wear.

I find myself shifting towards more casual clothing and I would like to shrink my wardrobe so I can start getting ready to downsize now that both my children are almost done with college. I recently read about Hygge and the concept appeals. I think my home has the qualities of hygge, and by focusing on texture and movement in my wardrobe over the past year I think I may be adding hygge as well. To function well my clothing needs to be comfortable, practical and beautiful. I don’t need to wear as many dressy outfits, and I have made less use of my skirts, sheath dresses, and formal dresses.

Thank you for sharing your tips for getting the job done in the above links. I am sure I will need help making decisions. One of my biggest difficulties has been eliminating clothing that fits, is in good shape but doesn’t get used much and/or fit in well with my current style goals. I am good at convincing myself that I will wear this type of item and I usually do wear them but very infrequently. My wardrobe has too many of these borderline items, and they detract from the gems. If I can eliminate infrequently used clothing, I believe I would love my wardrobe even more because I would repeat wears of my favorite items more often.

Confession, I did an edit back in early September. It was interesting, and I have a lot of notes that I still need to finish typing up. I did not feel focused. There was so much less obvious to cull than in years past, so I felt like I wasn't getting as much done. I've also recently had a spate of regrets for past donations. And I'm thinking I may need to replace half of my shoe wardrobe, which makes me sad, and I feel poor. So it was difficult emotionally. Not to mention physically exhausting. And it's hard to set aside an entire day. So I'm not sure if I can do this all again.

Your challenge is well timed. Challenge accepted. I recently edited all of the items in my built in dresser when I reorganized the drawers: undergarments and tights, short sleeved tops and sleeveless shells, long sleeved tops, lounge wear, sleep wear, workout wear. All edited!
I need to edit my fall/winter wear and my dressier wear. It will be great to get those tasks done!

Just ran across this post now. I so need to do this but I'm so afraid. I have a hard time letting things go and hang onto way too much. I wish Angie could hold my hand and help me through the process hahaha. I will review The Links posted and try to find the courage to go for it. It just seems so overwhelming I don't know where to start. And I have let go of things in the past and then regret it. Editing triggers so many emotions for me. I wish I could step outside myself and not let my emotions get to me.

Great suggestions, Angie. However, I did a closet edit in September, when changing from summer to fall wardrobe, and my next closet edit will be in November, when changing from fall to winter wardrobe.

I wish you all good luck in October. Will follow you with interest and hope to pick up a useful tip or two.

Love this! I just started a huge edit a few months ago while trying to teach myself how to put outfits together. I realized very few items in my closet go together and I never buy basics (so glad I found YLF blog! I’ve poured over it for days!!!) I added a few missing items and have been loving how it’s all coming together!

Sure, I’ll play. I edit quite regularly but with no system. And I still do hang on to things thinking I just need to adjust my thinking about an item or find the right combo to make it work.

I’ll be pulling down my fall/winter sweaters this weekend so I’ll start then with knitwear. Work has been a little overwhelming the past six weeks so this’ll be a nice diversion.

I have finished a huge closet edit about a month ago and got rid of tons of items due to lifestyle changes in the past year as well as weight gain. I could go for another round as the first one eliminated the super obvious items only. I have tried on only bottoms and dresses - items that were most influenced by weight gain, so I could definitely use trying on everything else.
