Interesting topic, Patience. I like to try new trends, but I am picky as to what I will try. My style is my style, and if the new trend is a complete opposite (like the whole glam-rock look) from what I wear and like, I will pass. So I will be adventurous about trying things within my style, but I tend not to mix a bunch of trends.
I do have a problem similar to Sarah's. When I put outfits together, I usually have to tone them down a little, to make them look "normal". As my husband reminds me occasionally, I don't work for a PR agency, or marketing department, or, gasp!, a fashion magazine. I work for a conservative tech firm, so I feel stifled by my own worry of looking "crazy". That really annoys me and recently I've started working through it by putting only one requirement on my office style and that is "professional" (not corporate professional). That gives me somewhat of carte blanche as long as I maintain the "professional" look.

Hear, hear! My risks include dressing too edgy or even stylish for my office. Not that anybody would say anything, but I just don't like standing out in general. That's my introvert self speaking.
I admit that most days I do not wear outfits that I love or that I want to define me. I get stuck in ruts so very easily that even something nice or photo worthy feels like a risk. But I'm getting there!

Yes, Ana, that is a great example. But I also mean more generally, anything that has a chance of being a flop because it's outside of the global norm.

I agree with you.. my fashion risks are related to what is flattering for my body type or not.. I usually don't care about trends, I always pic what is flattering, the problem is that i'm stucked to a style, to a confort zone and ylf has been such a great help in this area!
I'm also planning to post, but style trying to gain courage!

Yes, I think I know what you mean, Patience. For instance, I have broad shoulders, so wearing a jacket or top or dress that had major shoulder pads or very poufy, architectural sleeves would be a fashion risk for me. Is that what you're are talking about?

Is there anyone else out there who occasionally gets struck with a streak to take a fashion risk? This is related to Hanna's fear challenge. I was thinking about it and I realized that my fashion fears usually center around issues of lifestyle and appropriateness for the occasion. And I tend to think those fears are well founded. When it comes to fashion risks with regards to style and body type-- trying something out there or questionable-- however, I actually love rising to the challenge. But, I'm not Angie and so I don't always have the best judgment when it comes to discerning whether I've pulled off the fashion risk. I hope I'm getting better at it. And of course, that's what this site is for-- to get help in making the discernment.

So my challenge to you is to take a fashion risk and this is definitely relative to your own fashion persona. I took a fashion risk today which I'll post when I get a chance. It's one of those-- everything I've learned tells me this is not ideal for my body right now, but I'm hoping I pulled it off at least with a big helping of confidence.
