Thanks Skylurker, I like your looks. While 1 is a wildcard for you and quite different, you wear it very well.

I see what you mean about the skirt. In the reality it is a bit thicker than it looks - a trans-seasonal jersey knit. I am looking for some olive pants at the moment.

Here are my I-don't-know-what-to-call-them patterns.
A dress I bought on discount this year, a "wildcard" as Angie would say - proved great for Summer vacation in July : pack like a tee, super comfy, wash well.
Shirt #2 is one of the oldest item in my wardrobe, not much worn lately because I find it too dark.
#3 I've just bought, under the influence of Trinny Woodall, and a stressful week!

Sal : I love your blouses, #1 seems made to be worn with black, #2 would probably look good with khaki - which is the new black - though I'd probably just wear it with navy cropped trousers.
The maxi skirt looks summery to me (maxi skirt + 70s print I equate with summer) so I think the boots look weird with it, when I'm expecting flat sandals.

Still haven't got time to study the above posts and pics in detail, but there seems to be a great variety. However, we haven't seen many heart prints, have we? So here is my at home outfit tonight: hearts + polka dots.

Sorry I left this thread neglected while I had a busy patch and could not do these lovely outfits any justice!!

Joy - I love those subtle prints on your tops, the watercolour look is elegant. I do have a pink top with this feel to it too that I enjoy wearing.

Astrid - that is a great pattern on you, nice find!

Brooklyn - I love the ombre of course and the moody prints are lovely. I will pick photo 2 as my favourite though - just a lovely elegant work look.

JAileen - I will have to choose the two dresses as my picks - I cannot seperate them and think they are both gorgeous.

Deborah - thanks for sharing your abstract prints. My favourite is 2, I just find it very soothing and chic (but the ombre coat is fun - I really like it).

Bijou - what a fun collection. I also want to see you in the tiger wrap dress - it is lovely.

Thanks Lyn, Angie, Joy, Brooklyn!!

Christina - love your summer patterns and my favourite is the JCrew postcard print skirt.

Jenn- I love 2 of course and the chinese scarf is lovely. I would wear it with blue denim and a simple top (stripes or plain) - for smart casual type occasions.

Joy - that is gorgeous!! A wonderful wildcard jacket that looks stunning on you.

Thanks The Cat also for your list!!

Such a variety on this thread....and such eye candy.

I will start the last pattern challenge tomorrow - animal print and camouflage:)

Jenn, you must find ways to wear these treasures. My favorite is your top and outfit in 2. It looks like you could pattern mix and wear the tunic top with the souvenir scarf in 3 and even the one in 4 and in 8.
I love architectural prints and reluctantly parted with a vintage skirt with a Paris cityscape print when moving.

Sally, your first outfit is fab! I understand the balance between real life and how you might choose to dress, though. I'm suddenly glad my son is doing theatre this year...think of the outfit opportunities!

Brooklyn, I'm in awe of how cool your wardrobe is. I'm especially enamored with that quarry print tee. It's so urban chic.

JAileen, the Ottoman scarf is GORGEOUS. I think, like my Chinese scarf, I'd have a hard time figuring out how to wear something like that, but I love it nonetheless.

Joy, I just adore that scarf you have with the houses on it. I really like architectural and cityscape-type prints. I tried to talk my son into a shower curtain with a similar print for his bathroom but, alas, he didn't go for it.

Deborah, #5! Its fascinating how it almost looks botanical, even though it's clearly abstract.

Bijou, I now feel I don't have enough Union Jacks in my wardrobe. Classic.

Christina, love the Boden dress. It reminds me of sun-drenched beach holidays in Europe...if that was something I did, which it isn't.

Today's outfit includes a silk top with a watercolor pattern that is also suggestive of floral but makes me think more of water. I was also trying for boho lite, a bit of utility pretty and included a small chain strap crossbody bag. I am not loving the top in the photo although it is great on a hot day being breezy and light but covering. It is probably the low scoop neckline that needs to be filled in. Keep or Toss?

Lots of interesting items here. I look forward to study them in detail when I have more time.

I don't have many items in this category. Just looked at my summer wardrobe and found:
- 1 skirt (stone pattern)
- 1 pullover (butterflies)
- 3 scarves (abstract)
- 1 shawl (hearts)
- 1 jacket (stone pattern)

I might post photos later. Right now, my days are very long and busy.

Christina, very pretty prints. I want the top in shades of blue.
Here is my wild card today and a style out of my comfort zone..a rather sporty short sleeved silky jacket. The appeal for me was the blush color with black, a summer topper, and embroidered Phoenix bird. Love the decoration and weight, but have reservations about the short sleeves. I also had on sales googles and can still return this jacket although am thinking the embroidery part could be used to embellish a bomber jacket or jeans if I could find a seamstress who would do the job.
What do you think of this jacket? Shown with black silk joggers (Jolie) and black silk shell (AT). Blush loafers are not the best with this but worn for comfort for lots of walking at the Botanical Gardens or zoo or both.

Welcome to some of the most beautiful and least-worn patterns in my wardrobe. MANY of these items were gifts or inheritances that I can't bear to give up because I find them absolutely gorgeous, but they're also out of my style comfort zone. I'd love any thoughts you have on actually wearing them.

#1 is one of those silk wrap skirt/dress things that was given to me as a gift. I love it. I've never worn it in public. I should add that this is fully-reversible, so either the green or the orange could go on outside. It just doesn't have the pretty layering with the green side out.

#2 is a silk tunic blouse that I asked for forum input on before buying because the fabric was cut upside down. It was sold as a bird print, but my husband and son have an ongoing debate as to whether it's bananas or croissants. I just think it looks abstract, and I like it. This is one I do wear.

That's it for actual garments. The rest of these are all scarves.

#3 - My mom's aunt (my great-aunt) was the mother superior in a convent. She traveled to Rome when my mom was young and brought this silk square scarf back for her. I remember wearing it in my hair as a teenager, and it's been mine since I left for college, though I rarely wear it. I love that it's not just vintage-look...it's actual vintage, and easily the oldest piece in my wardrobe.

#4 - Another silk square souvenir. My father-in-law bought me this on a trip to China. It's beautiful, but the colors are very bright for me. I'd love to find a way to wear it anyway.

#5 - An inexpensive oblong scarf with the Deathly Hallows from Harry Potter. Bought on a recent trip, and already worn a couple of times.

#6 - Another inexpensive oblong scarf with an abstract pattern.

#7 - A woven pattern from Disneyland, bought on a trip with unexpectedly cold evenings. I like how subtle the Disney reference is, but I rarely wear it.

#8 - My mother's silk Book of Kells scarf,. She wore scarves regularly and, when she passed away, my brother and I gave most of them away to her female friends. This is the only one I kept for myself. It feels very delicate and I don't wear it, but I'd love to.

Brooklyn, all of your pieces look perfect for your style. I especially like the ombré jacket.
JAileen, your scarves in 8 have me swooning. I actually once had Turkish army pattern wallpaper in a diningroom. It included tigers and trees.
Deborah, I can't pick a favorite. Each is so your style.
Bijou, that wrap tiger dress is so much fun!

Deborah, I think we are drawn to the same sorts of abstract patterns. I would wear all of yours in a heartbeat. Really loving the blouse in no 1.
Making me think that I would like a black and white marble print top.
JAileen, butterflies for the win! Love your black and white dress in particular. Stunning! I think butterfly prints are having a moment as part of the floral trend. You should stock up

Sal I love your pattern items. That second blousecis just gorgeous.

Joy such a softness to your lovely prints. All so elegant and interesting x

Astrid that's gorgeous! I love bird patterns:)

Brooklyn yours all gave that touch of edge :)

Here are mine, just gathered some outfit pics. My favoured patterns would be more abstract ones in black/white/grey.

No 2 is my wildcard! Purely emotional purchase because I loved the tones :)

No 6 is my ombré coat also a bit of a wildcard due to the colours but I love it!

Astrid, I agree with Joy, that is a fantastic print.

Joy, you have some amazing pieces. Like an art gallery!

Sally, my favourite is your stunning maxi skirt. I think the print is a bit art deco/Florence Broadhurst-ish. Love it.

I have a fair bit in this category. I think I have realised as a result of this challenge that I really like pattern. Pattern is happy!

My favourites are:
1. Ombre and dip dye. Especially in black/grey/white; burgundy/aubergine and blue/green.
2. Abstract patterns (preferably in the same colours).
3. Space dye patterns. They add subtle pattern and you can wear them as you would a solid colour.

I will add some pics from my phone.

Sally, love the first outfit!

Joy, great collection.

I knew this thread was coming and took some sneaky pictures of my outfit with my phone yesterday. This is new, inexpensive polyester, but I just had to buy it. I love the colors and pattern.

These all are beautiful prints that suit you. My favorite prints, water-colors and oriental, probably fit best in this category.

Thanks Smittie. I feel this is definitely where I sit and it is helping me to clarify a direction. My main issue is my life which is based around boys sport and working in a male dominated aeronautical engineering firm!!

This is challenge five of six. Our last challenge will begin next week with animal print and camouflage. Thanks for all the fashion goodness in the other threads and to the people that have helped me monitor and provide feedback.

But back to this challenge. Show us your other patterns - I'd love to see as many as possible whether they are traditional/meaningful or fun/frivolous or edgy/arty. This is an inclusive thread:)

I will start and pickings in my winter closet are a bit thin... So I am wearing my maxi skirt and an ink sweater today for working at home, a school maths competition and a dinner out with some wonderful women tonight.

The first two are pictures from the archives and the third one is what I am wearing today. I like both the blouses but do find them a little hard to wear (in fact I am pleased I saw this picture from the archives as this was the way I liked the middle blouse the best and I should repeat it.

Over to you now.
