Speaking of hormones, men's testosterone levels peak approx. around age 18 or in their early 20's and then around age 30 it begins to steadily decrease causing loss of muscle mass and weight gain among other issues. Just saying!

Hmm, I wasn't really talking about aging or weight loss/gain - they are really separate issues and happen to us all.
I guess I was observing the changes that happen as women's hormones change, either with pregnancy or with menopause. Many menopausal women lose breast tissue and store fat around their abdomen once they run out of oestrogen. I am an hourglass, but I wonder if I will become more "apple-like" in the next few years.

As for the men, I have been married 20 years and my husband would still be able to wear the clothes he was wearing when I met him, if I let him! My friends partners perhaps carry a little more weight, but look much the same. (Although I haven't seen them naked, so that is just an impression) I think there is a gradual change in men as they age, but, barring sudden weight changes/illness I don't think they experience the fluctuations women do. Some women even experience this monthly, with bloating or breast changes that lead them to choose different clothes for that time.

P.S. I am reminded of a saying my dad use to quote every now and then that seems to fit: "Time and tide wait for no man." (or woman :-))

Women seem to wear the experiences of their life on their bodies much more than men do."

I completely disagree! This is not my experience at all. I have been single all of my 30's and 40's and dated a lot of men in that time, including a few dedicated to health and fitness (to a boring extreme!). There are significant changes in their bodies as they age.

Maybe your partners have great genes -- or maybe you are just seeing them with kinder, less judgmental eyes.

I've put on a few pounds, lost a few pounds and for sure have more wrinkles....but I LOVE, ACCEPT, APPRECIATE and APROVE of myself.

I do have the tendency to wear similar clothing as I did in my 20's...SIMILAR not the same. I usually wear all black long gown like dresses and skirts, leather Gothic/Fetish inspired shoes, corset inspired tops and frock coats but I don't wear the super mini skirts...i do have nice legs. I spent MANY years riding dressage and I ride my stationary bike almost everyday but the super short styles are, in my opinion, too short for someone my age. I HAVE started trying to wear color and more "average"or "normal" clothing since reading the YLF forum.

I am 45 and some say I look somewhere between mid 20s early 30's and I do wear abouve the knee skirts with high Doc Martens. My male friends....WOW, no hair, thinning hair, overweight and sun damaged skin...i think they look good but YES, they have most certainly changed.

I think I look exceptional...I am married but have no children.... however, I have type 1 diabetes, been on dialysis and had a kidney transplant and STILL I seemed to have aged quite gracefully. I also eat great (thanks to the POSITIVE side of having diabetes) exercise, meditate, visualize, create art and I KNOW this way of life helps keep me young inside and out.

I don't know my body type..I want to post pics to see if anyone here can help out...Hmmm...i wonder if body types change with age?

I've certainly noticed lately that I'm fatter, curvier, lumpier, bumpier, saggy(er), spottier, marked and stretched out quite a lot in comparison to say, ten years ago. That said, I'm much happier in myslef now than I ever was when I was then!

I'm 41, but my body has changed that much.. always an hourglass even if now I have a few more pounds (they are well distribucted). I've learned to love my body.

They way I dress has changed manly because I have learnt that's it's worth to invest more on the basic pieces I know I will always love like a pencil skirt, a dress or a silk jewel tone blouse.

Well, no way around it...we all grow old and yes, our bodies change. The only thing I can say (and I will be 53 this year) is ....the older I have gotten the more comfortable I am in my skin:)

I may not love what I see on the outside, but I most certainly love the inside alot more than when I was younger. I wouldn't change one wrinkle or stretched belly mark. I have earned everyone proudly...not that I want to show anyone!!

I certainly don't mind looking my age, I don't pretend to be anything other than I am....as long as I look the BEST I can for my age:)

I am 42 and I do not find that my body changed much from my 20s or at least this is what I think :-). Yes, my waist became a little wider after 2 babies and my tummy was really stretched after a second one and some breast sagging is present after nursing but all that happened in my early 20s (I had my 2nd child when I was 23). I do not think my body has changed much after that.
One thing I have learned is to love what I have now and do not wish for what was 20 years ago. And I did not really learn how to dress my body until my late thirties anyway so I feel I look better now than when I was 25 (or at least I believe this :-)
And about male bodies not changing...you must be kidding. I work with younger guys at work and when I see their pictures from 10 years ago I cannot believe how they changed. All these beer bellies! And no attempt to dress better either. I think you and your friends are just lucky with your men!

I spent the Queen's Birthday long weekend in the time-honoured Australian fashion - going "up the coast" with a group of girls I met at Uni 13 years ago.
One of the things that fascinated me is how much our bodies have changed since we first met. We range in age from 41 to 49 and since we met, one of us has had babies and another is peri-menopausal.

ALL of us have changed in shape, and I don't mean just weight changes - bellies have stretched and become rounder with children, breasts have sagged, fat has moved to different distributions as hormones change. Our partners, on the other hand, look much the same as they did more than a decade ago, albeit greyer and with slightly less hair.

Women seem to wear the experiences of their life on their bodies much more than men do. I am torn between pride and resentment, but I also feel my perception of my body hasn't always kept pace with reality. Have you found the same thing? If so, how have you changed the way you dress to accomodate this? Has your style completely changed, or have you evolved some version of the look you favoured in earlier times?
