Don't freak out yet. I actually had precancerous cells showing up on a pap smear right after I had my daughter, this was 18 years ago. I had cryosurgery, a super simple procedure, inpatient, zero recovery time and I was all good.
I've had 18 years of normal pap smears since then. Try not to worry yet. it is quite common.

I'm sending you a big hug! I had an abnormal Pap when I was early-to-mid twenties and everything turned out to be ok. A friend of mine had the LEEP (I think that's what it's called) procedure and she said while it was a bit uncomfortable, everything was very easy.

I agree with others that this is likely just a precautionary exercise. My sister and a close friend went through this, and everything turned out fine.

Good for you for going for regular exams! All will be well.

I had the same experience as Mo and Diana at about the same age. Cryo, then paps every 6 months for several years. No problems since, and I am closing in fast on age 60 -- so this occurred when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

I have seen multiple cases of different stages of cervical cancer, and like the other ladies said, the important thing is that your doc is on top of the situation.

Best of luck!

Any chance you're pregnant?

I had abnormal results once and it turned out I was pregnant. After undergoing a procedure (can't recall what it was called) and everything. Results righted themselves several months post-delivery.

Hopefully this turns out to be nothing. My thoughts are with you.

Fingers crossed too. Three deep breaths and exhale. Helps settle the nerves so you can act and get through all procedures well.

What Angie and Diana said. I also have friends (in their 40s now) who had similar situations years ago. They are fine now! I hope this turns out to be the case for you too.

I had the same experience as Mo at around the same age. My pap came up with ASCUS, then I had the biopsy, and then pap smears every 6 months for 2 years. But after 2 years of normal paps, you are considered no longer at risk and it goes back to the normal procedures.

Hope yours turns out to be insignificant as well! Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I have friends with abnormal pap smear results and none of them have cervical cancer. There are plenty of procedures, as Mo, suggests, that successfully take care of things like this. Hang in there and good luck.

I had abnormal squamous cells in a pap at around age 26. They did a cryo of my cervix, which is freezing the tissue with ultra cold gas. Nitro glycerin I think. The biopsy hurt worse than any actual procedures. Hang in there, it can be dealt with before anything progresses.
By the way, I'm now almost 43 and doing just fine!
