Interesting question! I have been able to go to the hair dresser, and am now sporting a shorter cut than before the pandemic. I find myself gravitating toward simpler, more streamlined top styles now, but maybe that's just pandemic in general and nothing to do with my hair. Who knows?! haha!

That’s a good insight. It never occurred to me. No doubt because when my hair is long, like it is now, I tend to wear it up. I may not actually like long hair...

You are being very smart! I have had short hair most of my life (about chin length), and one year not too long ago I decided to grow it out. I was confused when tops that had worked very well for me in the past stopped working. I had loved turtlenecks, and looked good in them, but with longer hair, I didn't find them flattering. On the other hand, deeper scoopneck tops, which hadn't looked good on me before, now looked OK. It took me a while to figure out that it was my hair length that was creating the change. I thought about it and decided that I was going to stay with shorter cuts as my main style, so I use that length as my main barometer for which necklines to buy.

I’ve reached the point where my now below collarbone hair keeps getting in the way. Today I went for a walk and it was chilly and windy out. I realize I could use a headband, tried tying a scarf instead but then how do I get the mask to work? Ended up with a low ponytail and put the hood up and the scarf around my neck. Very busy.

I hate ponytails but I wonder if maybe MrMaven could do a loose braid in back, but he wasn’t home. If all goes well I get my second vaccine Feb 20 and 2 weeks later I’ll see if I’m brave enough to go to a hairdresser.

In the meantime I’ll keep trying ideas I learn about on this forum.

My hair has been short for years, but there was a major shock to my system when I went from dark brown to black and white. I think culling according to poor fit, quality etc. is the way to go for now.

Interesting observations!
Also, Celia, I hadn’t noticed as much about fabric texture , or maybe even pattern, but I could see that.
Scarves too. I know you don’t need short hair to wear a scarf, but thers more going on around my face and neck with longer hair, added to the mask.

My hairstyle and lenght hasn't changed much as I usually don't go shorter than shoulder lenght bob( LOB?). However,I have fine straight hair and whenever I want to wear turtlenecks the proportions feel better if I do a ponytail or updo of some sort.
I find that not only necklines but also fabric changes the way I wear my hair.

Oh, definitely. I enjoy turtlenecks a lot more when I have a pixie or if I put my hair up, and a vneck or boatneck can feel a little too exposed when my hair is super short. A not-too-high crewneck seems to work no matter what, and I love button front shirts because you can adjust how open to make them. I like to go back and forth between long and short (spring 2018 I cut a very short pixie, grew it to a cleopatra bob in 2019, and continued the grow-out through 2020 so now it’s down to my shoulders with the bangs mostly grown out), so I try to keep a variety of necklines, knowing I won’t be reaching for all of them at any given time.

When my hair is worn down I prefer an open neck, when I have it quite short or tie it back a crew or even turtle neck work fine.

i had my shoulder length hair cut very short in autumn and have been maintaining it myself. Ultimately I am expecting the style to be temporary and I haven't bought clothing to accommodate the change.

It is winter and I have been wearing scarves to fill the necklines of sweaters, which seemed unnatural at first because I don't usually wear them, but I found some that I like.

My button down shirts might have seemed like good choices for more wear but to me, they look too masculine without the softening effect of my hair.

I've been wanting more covered necklines lately, though unrelated to hair. Lower necklines just break up my already short torso- I decided. My hair has always been at least shoulder length as long as I've had a choice about it.
That said though, high necklines and toppers are problematic. I feel blocky. So v and scoop neck are better if I have to wear a topper, and higher if my legs are bare. Long pants and no topper seems ok either way.

Runcarla, no, between the couple of cuts snd s gre hacks I have it myself, it’s not long enough, but not near either!
I didn’t have the foresight to think that I could let it grow long on sides & back but hack the bangs, and do a little ponytail. At one point I thought I was back to being able to have repeats, if less frequent, haircuts.

This is a very interesting observation. I haven’t thought how my hair style might affect my preferences for certain necklines. I had my hair in a short bob for last few years and didn’t like scoop neck tops on me, going more for high crew neck styles. My hair now reaches my shoulders and I plan to let it grow for another couple of inches. Maybe lower crew and scoop neck will look better? I have to try on some of my summer/spring tops. I’m not editing any clothes right now but curious to check anyway.

Thanks to entering and exiting various phases of lockdown since March, my choppy layers have been neglected for nearly a year now. I find myself in more up-dos and messy bun-type things than I would like... I have been relying on my spin pins to prevent elastic band damage. BUT, I have been enjoying turtlenecks again for the first time in a long time. I think having all the hair away from my face and neck makes it work.

My hair situation is so very different from what it was a year ago, that I almost don’t feel like myself! I’ve gone from a short earlobe baring bob to a shoulder grazing lob, and the length is pulling out the curl. Up-dos work well on mask wearing days and clear the neckline. Is your hair long enough to put up?

Though I finally got a couple of haircuts mid-way last year, my ability to schedule further appointments has been disrupted by haircut guy retiring, virus cases rising, and new hair stylist found but then out sick.
In addition, we’ve discussed some about its being harder to play with new hair styles because of how mask impacts the
experience.
When I evaluate tops, shirts, sweaters for fit, color, style, use- I focus a lot on necklines. I actually like not- too - high crew necks, but do also like shirt collars and some cowl necks.
But I notice that the longer ( and messier!) my hair gets, the more I’m bothered by higher necklines and may think, why did I ever get this?
But then, if I adjust my hair to try to imagine it shorter and more pixie- like, the proportions shift.

So, I’m trying to watch out for too- hasty “ collar- culling” during pandemic, until I get to a better haircut situation. Poor fit, fabric, bad colors — all these still seem reliable tests for editing out. This also would affect how well I can assess new items, especially if expecting longevity. ( Not saying one can’t “ dress for the hair you have today” , plus recognize enduring styles that have worked across the years.

How about you-how is your hair “ situation affecting what you prefer to wear and maybe how you view your existing tops and jackets or wardrobe planning?
