Thanks, everyone. Lots of good advice here. I'm relieved to know it's not the Certain Dri, and I'm quite sure it's not moths. By the way, I didn't know moths eat cotton. I'm going to return the tee shirts with holes to Lands End and continue to consider what might be rubbing or catching on my tees.

Hmm not much help. I always get the lower front holes which I'm pretty sure are from rubbing against the top of my jeans where they button up. I'm going to check out that link on mending knits - I can use that!

Good luck! Sounds like a solid return policy - wow.

I have the same problem with mysterious holes. I don't think it's moth, or from wear &'tear. I've investigated this for years and still have no clue. Zipper was one suspect, but I now typically wash jeans separately and still have this from time to time. My washer is front loader, so much gentler on clothes but this till happens. This affects all clothes in my family, DH's, kids, mine. From older tees to new tees that only had 2-3 wear/wash, inexpensive school Ts, to even JCrews non-tissue thin ones. I am still baffled.

I second moths but I have some holes on the bottom of some of my tees, which I believe are from the washer.

Diana, I'm sure this is not a problem from rubbing. but it might have been the cause. Thanks for the suggestion.

cciele, thanks for the thread.

Pat_P, yes I know that Lands End will accept returns for any good reason.

Joyce B, I am quite sure I don't have moths, but I will check again.

If the tops are made of natural fiber such as cotton they can be attacked by moths and that may be the case here. Those little pests love food spills on clothes and also love areas of the garment which are more prone to absorbing bodily odors, such as from the armpits.
I hope they are not moths but it sounds like they may be to me.

Do you carry a handbag under your arm that might be rubbing or catching on the tee, perhaps? My handbags tend to cause pilling on my sweaters on only one side, although I've never gotten holes in anything from them.

I only get holes in my tees at stomach level... (probably from belts or tables rubbing).

Good idea, Carter. I just checked my bras and don't think that's it because the underwire doesn't hit anywhere near the holes.

Hmmm... All of my holes show up around the bottom hem, so I'm not sure what's caused yours. I have found a quick and simple tutorial for how to mend holes in knits. It's worked great for me.

I don't know about the deodorant thing, but I don't see any logical reason that it would create the tiny holes you describe. I would check your bras really carefully. I had one whose underwire had busted through and was snagging my sweaters. I do sometimes find mysterious little holes in tees (but not all in the same place like you have). I just assume the washer/dryer caused them. Sounds like there should be a different cause/effect to have them all show up in the same place, though.

Last fall I bought 9 long sleeved rib-knit tee shirts from Lands End and put them in rotation with six other tees of the same type. I wear them a lot for very casual wear, and even sleep in them sometimes. I just found holes in 3 of the new tees. The holes are in the body of the tee, just below where the sleeve is connected to the body of the shirt... in other words, in the armpit. I have not found holes in any other items

Last fall I switched to using Certain Dri deodorant, which was recommended by several members of this forum. Has anyone had a problem with Certain Dri causing holes in garments? This seems unlikely, but I thought I should ask. Or is it more likely that the tees are made of really inferior fabric? They seemed fine when they first arrived.

Wasn't there a thread recently on tee shirts? Unfortunately I've been very busy and didn't have time to read it. Could someone tell me where to find it since it seems I may be switching brands.

Thanks very much for any advice.
