Oooh! I like that idea a lot, Stephanie! I've fiddled around with altering old t-shirts here and there, so maybe I can perfect the technique (I'd really like to be better at sewing, but I have trouble making straight lines... haha).
And don't worry Antje, I wouldn't wear minis anyway! I always go with knee-length, since I'm pear-shaped and not exactly blessed with great thighs. I don't think I've flashed any thigh since high school!

Lannie,
I would recommend altering that camp t-shirt yourself! Make sure yours is a size small or medium and take the sides in and those wide t-shirt sleeves in. Everyone else will wonder why you look so much better in your camp t-shirt than they do...

I'm a mom of a young child myself (she's 6, just like your youngest camp kids) and find skirts just fine to wear. I assume you're not gonna roll around the floor with them, so I'd say if you like skirts, absolutely go for it. I generally prefer skirts to walkshorts, it feels so much airier (and often prettier, I think). Should be about knee length (not mini even if you have the legs for it - I wouldn't recommend it for the job and the audience :-))

Yeah! I think it should be lots of fun, and I'm really looking forward to it. The kids range in age from 6-14.
My current wardrobe is mostly a uniform of dark denim, and the occasional skirt (I have an A-line denim skirt that I really like), but I've been wanting to add walk shorts into my wardrobe. I have a few light, comfy summer blouses but I would probably have to add a few more. It can get pretty hot in Southern Ontario in July and August, so I'm guessing that jeans won't be practical a lot of the time (unless it is a cooler day).
I guess I might have to wait to see whether or not skirts will work, depending on how much running around we're doing. I love the idea of cotton skirts (like the one in the blog entry for casual wear) so I might look around to see what sort of options I have. Any moms with young kids have an opinion on the practicality of skirts?

Lannie, what's your current wardrobe like? What kind of casual pieces do you have right now? And is it going to be hot?
I think your direction is right on re: walk shorts, thong sandals, knitted tops. You can also wear casual summery skirts and denim skirts if you're comfortable with skirts (I realize you'll move around a lot, so it depends on whether that's generlaly part of your look and comfort level or not).
Have you looked at the blog entry on casual wear (http://youlookfab.com/2008/03/.....de-casual/), and maybe searched for some of the recent threads on "tops that are not t-shirts"? (This wasn't the actual heading, but there were a couple threads in that vein.)
Sounds like a fun job

I've just gotten a job for July and August working as a counsellor at a theatre day camp, and naturally I'm already thinking about what I should wear. We were told that on the Monday and Friday we will have to wear the camp t-shirt (I think it's impossible to make that stylish) but for the other days, I'm wondering what will look cute but also be functional, as I will be looking after kids and doing active stuff like crafts, dancing, and putting on plays. My first thought was a sort of uniform of walk shorts (falling from the hip since I'm pear-shaped), thong sandals, and knitted tops or blouses. The director basically told us we could wear what was appropriate and comfortable, including jeans, so I think casual wear is perfectly acceptable (and practical for the job), but I still want to be put-together, since I will be around my peers and of course, the parents of the campers.
Anyone have any thoughts about the sort of things I could wear? I'll probably leave the shopping until the end of the month, but I'd still like to start thinking about it, since I'll have plenty of other events to worry about dressing for (weddings, showers, graduation, etc).
