I love this, MMPJ! You are reminding me that I need to replace my "rain" boots with actual waterproof ones. I had been wearing pleather riding boots until they bit the dust. I'm definitely going to copy this formula for winter. I had been contemplating a patterned pair of Sperry rain boots but seeing yours, I think I want a solid, fun color. Thanks!

I'm with you, Beth Ann. I can't wear these boots much above low 60s, so I've been "fortunate" that the rainy days have also been chilly! I will need to adjust the uniform soon though for warmer wet weather.

Um. Rainy day formula? I just get wet! Truthfully, in the midwestern suburbs, you just wear shoes you can run in --- run to the car -- run into the bank --- run into the house. You've shown me just how wonderful dressing for the rain can be, however, so I may have to try it. Still, am I the only one who finds boots stifling above, oh, say, 55 degrees?

You look fresh and ready for rain or sun!

Jonesy, I don't know why it never clicked for me before. I know Angie has mentioned not wanting to have wet hems and so usually opting for skinnies in wet Seattle. I'd get totally dressed (maybe bootcuts), get downstairs, and then drat - realize it's pouring outside - why didn't I look when I was getting dressed? Who knows. But then, it's too late for tall boots - it's hard to impossible/uncomfortable to stuff bootcuts into rainboots. So I need to come up with maybe two different outfits in this formula and I'll be ready for 3-4 days of rain (that seems to be the pattern around here).

Jeggings + woven tunic top + boots
Skinny jeans + lightweight knit top + boots
Leggings + skirt/dress + boots

All of those would work - I have the first, but now I want the other two!

Inge and Kiwichik - I am going to have to sleep with my rainboots under my pillow tonight - haha!

christieanne - thanks - and good luck in your hunt for a smart rain trench

modgrl - thanks! I think I was deciding between this violet color, navy and probably "classic" black...and I opted for the one that made me smile on a gray day. :)

clearlyclaire - good tip on the patent flats - thanks!

cheryl - Thanks! These Hunters have an adjustable tab - have you tried them?

Chrizzle - I like your daughter's rainy day outfit (leggings, skirt, dress) - I don't have leggings right now, but that's a neat variation on my rainy day uniform.

Transcona Shannon - Aww, thank you!

Louise - I know how seeing a cheery raincoat or bright colored umbrella really lifts my spirits, so when I saw these boots, I knew they had to be mine. No "safe" navy or black for me!

Love the outfit, MPJ! I like my 10-yr-old daughter's rainy-day formula: leggings, a skirt or dress, and either her black moto boots (protected with waterproofing spray) or colorful rain boots. (Well, she pretty much wears that combo everyday anyway, switching to capri leggings and sandals, peep-toe flats, or Converse if it's warm and dry.)

I need to find a rainy-day formula that is work-appropriate for me for spring and summer. Even though my office dress code isn't corporate or dressy, I'm in my 40's and I aspire to more authority than I currently have, so rain boots are too casual. Wish I had realized it was going to rain so much yesterday. I made the mistake of wearing full-legged trousers that skim the ground and my hems were soaked by the time I got to the office!

You look adorable! I love every aspect of this outfit. I don't have a rainy day formula, but I definitely need one. I really want rain boots but my calves are so thick I don't think any of those tall ones would fit.

This is a great uniform MPJ! I love the boots and the tunic together. The details on the tunic make it really special. I'm finding there is a great deal of interest on the hemlines of tops right now and I'm paying as much attention to the detail there as I am to the neckline and sleeves.

We don't get much rain in the desert, but I'm partial to patent flats or a vegan sandal if it's a hot summer rainstorm. Also a dark denim skirt/shorts is better to get soaked in than white linen, for obvious reasons--although that dark wash dye can transfer if you're not careful!

Inge, it definitely can get hot here - I was thinking more of what would a good rainy day summer outfit be...I think we've touched on the difficulty before of finding good footwear for hot, muggy, rainy days. It's not easy! I can still get away with the tall boots now, as it's still May and on the chilly side, but come summer, I don't know what the rainy day formula will be. :)

Seriously, I had wet hems for years, and I don't know how I overlooked the obvious on YLF (this formula). Thanks, YLF!

You look ready for weather and quite cheery on a dreary day. My MOTG rain formula was Cons or Frye Campus boots and straight leg jeans but recently I picked up these very cute Kate Spade rain ballet flats. Now I can wear those with slim jeans. Of course it has only rained twice since I got them and probably won't again until October.

I remember Angie posting outfits with clams and boots - not sure how that would work with rain boots but give it a try.
As for coats, I would like to find a short (just below hip) cropped water repellant trench myself as mine gave up a few years back.

MPJ! I'm coming to steal those rainboots, the colour is gorgeous!-)
I love this outfit formula, you look wonderful.
And I wear very similar outfits on rainy days: jeans tucked into boots + boxy blouse or button-down shirt or tunic + blazer or jacket.

I'm not sure how warm it gets in your neck of the woods, but I like the idea of clamdiggers (or skinny jeans or jeggings) with loafers, flat oxfords, ballet flats, a fun shoe with a small wedge heel.

I recently had the epiphany that rainy days need their own uniform, and have adopted the tunic top + skinny jeans + rainboots formula. (If I were clever, I would now hot link to the umpteen times Angie and other YLF-ers have mentioned this over the years...so go ahead and laugh at me for being willfully stubborn and ignoring this wise bit of sartorial advice!)

I do not own skinny jeans, so I substitued KK jeggings. I also try to switch to a "rain-proof" handbag - my PVC Betsyville satchel (a YLF pic from last year, I think?)

I included a side pic because I love the details on this tunic - the hem has a matching button tab just like the sleeves. The front is a pleated tuxedo style. Not bad for a TJ Maxx find.

I would like to add a casual hooded trench/parka to this outfit. Any suggestions? I only have my dressy black 3/4 length trench and a silver gray windbreaker-type jacket (it's nice, though - but perhaps a bit sporty - it's Helly Hansen, a sailing brand).

How would you adjust this outfit for summer? Are the tall boots too hot (or unseasonal) for summertime? I was thinking dark wash clams might be a good sub - I seem to recall an absolutely adorable outfit Angie posted years back on that formula.

What is YOUR rainy day formula?
