Good points Isabella. When I worked, I didn't have children, and I wanted a long lasting wardrobe ( I still have some of the sweaters 9 years later ), so I agree that your tops have to be somewhat "disposable" yet good looking.

Good Luck !

ThanksLadies! If I was building my work wordrobe, I'd definitely check the Ann Taylor - thank you Auburn.
However, as a mommy to an active 17 month old, I need stuff that I will be able to toss if completely ruined (and we haven't discovered markers and paints yet!). Price tag of 20 or so is definitely much easier to swallow.. I think I'll give the ON ones a try :), there used to be some coupons floating around, I need to check my email

Ive bought several of the ON cardis (I LIVE in cardis!) and they've held up very well...also check out Kohls Croft and Barrow- they wear like iron! Really good prices too....you already got some great washing suggestions

Hi Isabella !!

When I worked, I bought most of my sweaters at Bloomingdales ,Land's End , and Ann Taylor and some pilled, others didn't. Personally, it is hard for me to tell. Though I have had better luck with something a little more "upscale".

This summer, I bought a couple from Old Navy and I have been thrilled with them. The colors are saturated and the construction is good and they wash well. I have read that Old Navy is getting back to the more classic and quality look that they started with. I also think that at that price, why not give them a shot. They are very classic looking and pretty.

I do recommend that whatever you get, wash them inside out, with other "soft" garments and in cold water. If you have one, use a lingerie bag and store the sweaters inside out. I do this with Ts too. The less rubbing against other clothes, the less piling.

PS. I love Auburn's suggestions.

Isabella--good timing. I JUST got an email about 30% off select Ann Taylor cardigans. Good selection of styles, sizes and colors and I have a few AT cardigans that have been worn tons and tons and you wouldn't know it (e.g., none of that annoying nubbing that I've experienced with other sweaters).
Admittedly, they are a slightly higher price point than OT, but worth a look, I think.

Check out: http://www.anntaylor.com/catal.....038;loc=TN

I'm going to get the Grosgrain Trim in Rum Raisin and possibly the Merino Cardigan in Primrose Yarn (for what it's worth).

Hello Ladies, I have a question re: cardigans and sweaters in general. I don't fancy the thick blazers, even in winter (would rather layer a tank top and a thin shirt underneath a thinner cardi than wear just a heavy blazer or sweater. I like the Old Navy styles, how do they hold up in wash and wear? Or are there any other nice styles similar to the ones below? TIA!!
