I am finding most of my cardigans languishing in the orphanage portion of my closet, but I do prefer V-neck ones. I am on Team Jacket.

I have a tip for helping the round-neck cardigans stay in place if you wear them open and want the "flaps" to lie flat open so the effect is a bit more V-like -- use a little bit of fashion tape to hold the "flap" unbuttoned portion folded back in place. It looks like it's just lying open but stays put!

Ms KatieKat - that is the same thing I was noticing with vnecks worn open. If the V lapel is too big, I can't get them to lie open properly. It seems ok if the vneck is very slightly cut.

Thanks for your input - I am Team Sweater but going in to purge the closet collection today and getting ideas and pictures, etc. before i do.

V necks. I'm done with jewel necks on cardigans. They never lay neatly for me. The exception may be if you want to wear the cardigan buttoned up all the way as a top.

I never wear my cardis - except for one unusual navy one with interesting embellishments. The others I kept thinking I would wear like jackets but ended up replacing them with actual light weight jackets. I just feel frumpy in a cardigan and I don't wear tight fitting tees, blouses or tops so the cardis never layered right. I have four in my closet right now - 1 never worn, 1 worn once and the others worn maybe 2- 4 times. I think they are going to be donated soon.

V necks are easier to deal with but seem harder to find these days.

I barely wear my cardis any more - I used to but now I'm totally Team Jacket. But I think v-necks are more versatile and flattering. I never could figure out how to layer a crewneck or jewelneck properly.

As for cardis, I wear both but prefer v-necks. I have come to prefer v and scoop neck tops for my body type. I am an hourglass with a short, high waist and a v neck elongates my torso. Also, I have a bit of a bust so a high crew neck can make me look bigger. Finally, the distance between my bust and my shoulder is not very long, so a v neck once again elongates the line.

I prefer jewel necks. Many style literatures say that jewel necks wouldn't look good on busty women like myself, but I do not subscribe to this idea. I wear all my cardigans open to create a column of colour. V-necks just look odd on me, unbuttoned.

Actually, I recently decided not to buy any round neck cardigans, but to look for v-necks instead. I think v's are more versatile and seem less frumpy.

I go for v-necks, and that is based on my body type (pear, want to create visual interest in the upper half of my body and play up the V-shape of my torso as well as give the impression I have a bust - oh, and also elongate my neck). That's not to say I'd never wear a round-neck but I haven't found one that flatters me yet.

The v-neck cardis I love the most have a shirt-like collar - extremely flattering.

I prefer v-necks, because just like Sylvie said, anything goes with them. But I've also had round necks, I just wear them unbuttoned most of the time.

V-neck all the way. I find that there is no under-layer neckline that won't play nicely with an unbuttoned v-neck cardigan, but it is so much harder to work with a round/jewel neck. Plus the little flaps never stay in place on my body.

The only time I'd wear a round neck cardigan is if I'm going to be all buttoned up and wearing a high necked underlayer.

I found this guide to layering necklines invaluable.

Wondering what you all think is most versatile in a cardigan - the vneck or the round/jewel neck?
Do you choose based on your body type or do you mix it up with some of each?

Seems like for a knit or tank or t for layering underneath a cardi or jacket, the rounder neckline is most versatile but i could be wrong on that. Opinions?
