Thanks, Naf. I won't be buying that particular one but it's on my "track down one like it" list for fall I need one that's a little less fussy fabric wise (wool probably).

Yay! I'm excited :-)

It's a A-line style, just like the jacket but in a knit. Does that sound familiar? San bought a trapeze cardigan at the NAS that I think you did not prefer. You’d need one with a lower neckline.

Ok, what's the definition of a trapeze cardigan? I should have some straight leg jeans soon (they're on their way )

There you go Dani. The lasses have you sorted.

Dare to try a trapeze cardigan once you have your straight leg jeans? I’m always pushing the envelope

I completely agree with Ana, the ones you mentioned are not boxy IMO. Boxy to me is when it falls completely straight from under the arm to the bottom without any waist indication. And yep, even such styles could work with a proper belt.

Oh, and I would not say that you are easily confused by fashion at all. You've got great fashion sense!

I wouldn't consider either the Jackie cardigan or the short sleeve cardigan you have as being boxy. Boxy is more like this style:

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../96033.jsp

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../97721.jsp

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../96542.jsp

It's not a bad thing, but it's a style that is a little more difficult to pull off. I think these styles look best worn casually or belted.

Yes, Tanya, that's the one. Sorry about the link.

Do you consider that a boxy style? I've been wearing the J Crew Jackie cardigan as well. Is that considered boxy?
http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../85613.jsp

I'm confused about the short sleeve cotton J Crew cardigan as well, which I've been wearing all summer (the picture isn't on their site anymore, but if you put your mouse on one of the colors, the sweater shows up):
http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../91476.jsp

As you can tell, I'm easily confused by fashion

Dani, the link does not work :(

Is it this cardigan?
http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....=583267012

I have actually ordered it in claret, it should be here some time next week, so I'll post photos . Since I'm an hourglass as well, it might be helpful.

I find that I can get away with a lot of different shapes of cardigans, but I have pretty small chest. I like waist defining styles the best, but I have a few in trapeze cut that look nice layered over fitted tees/turtlenecks. I wouldn't wear a straight boxy one though.

I've been reviewing some of Angie's guidelines about body shape and fall transition clothing. I'm wondering what the best shape cardigan would be for hourglasses. One post said that the boxy, 50's style cardigan should be avoided.

My only problem is I've fallen in love with the claret color BR cardigan:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....pid=583267.

I also like a few of those J Crew cardigans (tartine, dream v-neck)
Now I'm wondering what I should be looking for in a cardigan. Can I wear a box cardigan as long as I button at least one button?
