Traci, our wardrobes are always driven by our needs and it sounds like this is exactly the type of capsule that you need right now. I'm glad things are working out for you.

Janet, capsules needn't be limited. In fact the exact OPPOSITE is true. Your own wardrobe is FULL of mix and match capsules that you have put together more intuitively.

I think that I like more the exercise of putting together capsule wardrobes than actually using them.
That concept seems to be working for you so I would keep it and Don't over think it

I'll work on getting some pictures. My life is not exactly camera ready right now, but I think I can get a couple that will give an idea of how it's working out.

When I've added a piece or two of print into my capsule I either feel like it needs to be super versatile or not too much of a stand out so that it's not so obvious I'm wearing the same dress or skirt over and over. I usually end up with neutral stripes as my print. I LOVE stripes, but have stayed away from florals and crazy prints.

When really studying Angie's capsules I found that she adds at least a couple of prints and different textures to change things up. So does Vivienne of Vivienne Files. In her 4X4 wardrobe she usually has 4 flashy tops, or more. The challenge is to get just the right one(s). Usually one is a striped tee.

The organized, color-coded part of me is fascinated by capsules, but my creative side resists the idea of such a limited selection. I like your idea of mixing in the bolder pieces -- there may be less risk of getting bored with the limited number of pieces that way. It would be great to see pics!

Very interesting post. I too can look at curated capsules for hours on end. They never get boring. I'm glad you found something that works for you. We all crave that.

For the last few years I have been really drawn to wardrobe capsules. I could stare at a beautifully curated, neutral capsule for hours. I have pulled and culled my favorite items from my wardrobe many many times. But I never stick with it, I either start shopping for something new, or crave color and dig it out of my stored clothes, or just need some retail therapy.

A few months ago a friend introduced me to this new line of clothes that she's started selling through a direct marketing company. They sell leggings, skirts, dresses and tshirts, all in stretchy knits. At first, I kind of stuck my nose up at the loud prints. I haven't worn much print or color in more than 5 years. I got a couple of pieces to support her and started mixing them into my wardrobe. My current personal circumstances mean that my wardrobe right now needs to look pretty much publicly presentable, but also comfortable enough to sleep in or wear for 2 days straight if the need arrives. These clothes have adapted my wardrobe to that perfectly!

I'm still considering it a capsule because I'm only adding in a few silhouettes. Since there are so few shapes, I can pick up a new item and mix it right in without having to worry about how it's going to play with the rest of my capsule, because I already know. I can have the thrill of shopping for new, fun prints, without ending up with orphans. These aren't investment pieces, these are splashy, fun pieces that I'll mix with my nicer jackets, jeans and button ups. I'm so stoked about it that I'm considering a simple instagram blog because I haven't seen this idea used in wardrobe capsules before. I'm likely too lazy to do all the picture taking work, though, so I thought I'd share it with you ladies instead.

I'm curious to see if this is just a phase. When I go back to work, I may crave more polish and tailoring and less mood lifting prints. But even if it is just a phase, I'm having fun!

Thanks for listening to my ramble:)
