This is really helpful as it’s relevant not only for “ running for office “ but also your idea of more approachable or less formal professional stage and an environmental norm that does not need to be over- trendy - very relevant to stage I am in now.
I also love capsule posts; not needing super strict capsules , but very much want to winnow down to more versatile wardrobe overall.

Ok. I really love this article. My family is involved in politics. I mean, chicken dinners involved, lol. So this is very interesting to me. I am reminded of the dress code for bankers... no Rolexes! No one wants to know that you took their money and bought a Rolex!

This is all kinds of awesome--yay, Allie! What a great idea--to create a wardrobe capsule for women running for/holding political office. I just had time for a quick look, but it looks applicable to a lot of professional roles. I'll study it more later.

I always look forward to Allie from Wardrobe Oxygen's posts! Don't know if you know her blog well, but she has a whole category for capsule wardrobes encompassing many different lifestyles (including ones such as how to dress professionally but with colour/ in the summer heat/ when you look young). Might be useful for those of you in these comments who are looking for more workwear capsule wardrobe inspiration

Super interesting! Adding my appreciation and applause for the efforts to get more women out there running for office.
I also think that this approach could be useful for many of us who need to dress up rarely -- at some point I need to think about a small "professional wear" capsule and I will refer back to this for sure.

That is indeed a very interesting article for women in a professional environment, thank you very much for sharing it!

The most interesting part for me is the one about getting dressed in a way that would help appearing "thrustworthy" to people with different backgrounds and cultures. It's something I usually struggle with, and such examples of capsules are of great help.

Very interesting, Toban. I look forward to study the capsule in detail later. Just took a quick look now. Agree that it would be a good idea to add a skirt, a top and some accessories.

I really enjoyed the following blog post that resulted from a workshop for women in politics. It is very versatile and cohesive, and given the 30x30 challenge going on here in the YLF forums, I thought others might be interested in it, too. I think it's much more broadly applicable to women in professional roles that need a versatile and approachable/relatable wardrobe that runs the continuum from smart casual to corporate depending on day's agenda.

This is the kind of capsule that I'm trying to base my weight loss transition wardrobes on. The issue of approachable/relatable resonated with me, especially at my mid-career stage where I've already established my expertise and now want to ensure that, for most day-to-day work events, I am 'approachable' and 'relatable' to more junior scientists so that they are willing to brainstorm, take changes, and initiate. I move to the more business-like outfits for invited talks and high profile meetings and like that they put mix-and-match rather than a matching pant suit for those purposes. I would add a pencil skirt, another top, another sheath dress, a pair of colorful block heel pumps, and a scarf, and I would be set for a season.
