Gotta say, it irks me to hear you complaining of "chicken legs". I am a pear shaped girl with very large thighs and calfs. So I can get away with so much less on the bottom.

I say rock those chicken legs like the sexy gams they are! And when someone calls you chicken legs, just smile smugly and say "Thank you!"

You look killer in those jeans with your long stems. You also look great in a skirt. I think people who call you chicken legs are just teasing you to have fun and not to be mean, because you do not have problem legs. Just like the others said if you wanted to build up the calves you could with excersise but as is you really don't have a terrible problem. You look great. A GREAT way to build up leg muscles if you wish, is to ride a bike or take a spinning class, which is indoor biking. You will love it. The people who are serious bikers have serious muscles in their legs.

So exercise for calf-muscle is absolute and self-tanner to camouflage will help.!
i just googled and it says squats with a lil wt. on the shoulders help develop calf muscles and gets rid of chicken legs.

Thanks for the time and also thank u very much for the suggestions Shiny!.
Thanks evryone!

Harry, I actually think the black skirt you have on would look better just a bit shorter to show some of your knee. Also, try wearing the belt in this picture at your waist to give it more definition. You have long enough legs to wear those gladiator sandals.
Another suggestion is to put some self-tanner on your legs and to do a Google search for exercises to develop your calf muscles. You have the potential for absolutely killer legs with their length and slim thighs. You just need to give those calves more shape.

Great advice Shiny. I bust out laughing when you said maybe your butt slid towards your knees! So that's what happened to me!!!!

This whole list is a classic and should be posted somewhere on the forum for future reference.

Too funny imagining this all taking place in the dressin room.

Harry, a picture would be ideal, but without one (and because I'm terribly procrastinating today!), here are some general guidelines from my own personal experience:

1) Shorter skirts tend to work best on those under 35; this is a general guideline. I still wear shorter skirts every now and then when I get the whim, and I'm 43, but I tend to wear them with opaque tights, as the skin on my knees aren't so young looking these days.

All in all, if you are over 35, - or any age for that matter - the universally flattering length is at or around the knee. This could be just above the knee, which is a good alternative to shorter skirts and might be a safe place to start?

2) Anything shorter - make sure to do the "bend over" test when you are in the dressing room. Ensure that when you bend over, your panties aren't showing. I have found that this can happen with skirts only 3-4 inches above the knees - depending on how they are cut. It happens more often since I passed my 30s; I think because my butt has slid towards my knee. :-(

Also sit down to ensure the skirt doesn't ride up too much. Check the front view when you are sitting to ensure you aren't flashing anything. Cross your legs, move around, etc. And pay attention to whether there is any fabric left under your derriere when you sit! This is the biggest drawback to short skirts, in my experience, and another reason I opt to wear tights with them.

5) Shorter skirts work best with flat shoes, or a very small (no higher than 1 inch) kitten heel. Anything higher, and you run the risk of looking tarty, in my humble opinion. Besides, if you are worried your legs are too skinny, adding too much heel will make them look even more so. Whereas a ballet flat or flat boot looks adorable with shorter skirts, and strikes the right balance.

6) With any skirt, you need a "skirt-length" top. Angie has blogged on this topic in the past - do a site search. This is even more important with short skirts, to get the proportions just right.

7) If you're going to show a lot of leg, then go more conservative and demure on top. A turtleneck, if you can wear those, is an adorable look. No plunging necklines or too much exposed skin. Let your legs be the star!

8) As an alternative, consider trying a tunic dress-over-skinnies look. This has also been blogged about. Unfortunately it is difficult to find knee-length dresses so wearing the ubiquitous short dress over skinnies is a good and fashionable option.

Hope that is helpful!

Harry, wearing boots, especially slouchy ones, ought to help break up the thinness and length of yor legs. Maybe you could post a photo.
Have you spent time trying to determine the best skirt length for your body? I suspect a knee length might be more flattering. Maybe at the top of your knees? Short skirts are naturally going to draw attention to your legs.

they look like 2 long sticks, taperin painfully thin towards the ankles.Yes! well very much like twiggy's!

neways, by short i meant 3-4 inches above the knees and my style of dressing is classic & on my torso, anything goes!

leg length and torso proportion looks almost equal though by measurement the torso and the leg length differ by 6" say leg length 36" and torso 30"
legs look longer due to their thinness!

Nicole, you're right, of course. However a 36 inch inseam on someone who's 5'5" is quite leggy, isn't it? At 5'0" my inseam is barely 28 inches! So I got this picture in my head of someone who probably has amazing legs, which made me think of Twiggy.

A photo would definetly help!

Now wait a minute...not everyone *should* wear short skirts. Short skirts on the wrong person can look anywhere from juvenile to trampy. There are lots of factors that range from age (don't shoot me) to personal style, and what else you plan to wear with these skirts, not to mention leg length and proportion of leg to torso. And "short" is relative. How short are we talking? A few inches above the knee or skimming the crotch?

There are just too many things to consider here, IMO. (sorry, I admit I am PMSing)

Could you imagine if Twiggy had decided her legs were too chicken-leggy for short skirts?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/imag.....twiggy.jpg

I can't!!

With your measurements, you should look awesome in short skirts - as well as super-skinny jeans! So go for it, FLAUNT IT,

.... and take the term "chicken legs" completely out of your internal vocabulary forever.
