I got a destroyed tee a few years ago and wore it once, then gave it away. Tees just do not distress in the same varied, textured and wonderful way that denim does. With denim you can also place a homemade patch underneath (that is what I do when the distressing grows too much on my jeans), and stitch over it. The garment evolves with more character.

I think you have to explore ideas that appeal to you but I think a DIY would be more cost efficient in this case. A distressed T is not something I would consider but I see the attraction, but it tends to look contrived if it's not authentic?!

the shirt rae linked to is a great example...i agree with her assessment 100%. this was a fad a few years ago, with a group of designers doing hand unraveled thrifted tees.

I like it - but immediately thought to myself "well, Mo could do that herself and make it much cooler than what this one is" - and then I read the comments and I see others have made the same suggestion - so there ya' go! (I did vote "Yay" however - in case you're wondering where that one yay vote came from!

I love destroyed clothing of all kinds, but I don't think this goes far enough to work, unfortunately. It should be more overt to be a "look" rather than authentic-looking wear. This is kind of what I mean by more overt.

My main problem with this tee is that it is not distressed enough. I love distressed tees, and you would look great in one - but for my money, the holes should look unmistakably intentional. (Unfortunately, the photos don't give a really clear picture of the texture, the holes and raw edges) However, this T-shirt appears as if it could pass for an old, worn-out gym tee - which rather defeats the purpose. Its grunge statement is tentative.
See the hole-to-surface-area take of the master of distressing here - the 2010 collection. Styling note - juxtaposition of holes with bling/luxury!
http://www.style.com/fashionsh.....TW-BALMAIN
I also have to confess a bias against tops that do not make it through my "Hot Meter" filter. To my eye this gym t-shirt shape is nowhere near flattering enough for your goddess-like figure! It's those sleeves and the v-neck :(....particularly if you wanted this tee for a "stand-alone" top, i.e. something you would throw on quickly over jeans without needing much styling. For this purpose, I'm more inclined towards a silhouette that is more obviously a "fashion tee" - e.g. an oversized one, or the top in Balmain's Look 7 above http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oZoA......30+PM.png
or something like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X_o6.....rt_400.jpg
But, has the tee inspired you do some distressing yourself? Quick and choppy fun! I would love to see anything you created.

Okay, I backed away from the tee lol. Sometimes you have to have your 'out there' ideas reviewed by unbiased sources he he. If I end up keeping the layered Yoox shirt, it may distress with me trying to stretch it anyway, right??

Agree that this is something you could do (and better) yourself. I like distressing but reserve actual holes for jeans only.

Eta: and actually on jeans the holes should be reinforced so they don't become massive. I had to reinforce one of the holes on my jeans since it was on the thigh and showing cellulite!

I have seen some DIYs around http://www.ehow.com/how_477778.....hirts.html

I can hear my mother yelling now about how we won't pay good money for clothes with holes already in them.

That said, it was a pretty easy look to recreate in my youth when all we could afford were thrift store finds.

I recently returned an overly distressed chambray shirt - just felt silly in it when I tried it on. I am a bit older, but this doesn't really seem to be a good bet for you either Mo. I think you're looking for edge so I'd look for other edgy details on a black tee such as some sort of leather trim or grommets or that sort of thing. I have a couple of deep charcoal t's that seem edgy because they have visible stiching and a slightly faded feeling color (not quite black, not quite gray).

I agree - love everything about the shirt except for the actual holes.

I like distressed jeans but I won't buy them if there are holes or even near-holes. I would worry too much about those holes getting larger after a few washes.

Sort of like destroyed jeans, I sometimes wonder if we're all being 'had' paying big money for holes and rips lol!
