Thanks Suz! Sounds like a good uniform to build a capsule around - jeans, casual toppers, sneakers, practical fab shoes and a good rainproof jacket.

Your sister is super lucky! That's a beautiful time to be in Vancouver. Gaylene has nailed it with her description of what the kids typically wear. Water-worthy footwear (boots like Blundstones or similar) are a definite plus, along with a rainproof coat like the one you got for your Scotland trip.

Thanks Gaylene! That sounds like awesome weather. She likes to wear jeans, tees/pullovers and sneakers so that seems to mesh well. But I'll suggest asking for some pictures, I'm sure there are going to be a lot of emails exchanged before the trip in any case!

Lucky sister--September and October are the two best months to spend in Vancouver, in my opinion. The weather is usually mild (15-20C) and dry in early fall since November normally marks the switch to the winter fogs and rain.

A rain shell and umbrella, though, is always a good idea in Vancouver. Most of 16-18 y/o contingent wear fairly casual clothes, with a heavy nod to sports or yoga wear. Jeans, hoodies, leggings, light-weight sweaters, boots, sneakers, fleece, and T's seem to be the prevailing look. If your sister is going to attend school, why not ask her Canadian counterpart to text a few pictures of herself and her friends to get a sense of what is popular at the school your sister will be attending.

Unfortunately it's not me taking the trip, but my little sister. She applied for a school exchange sponsored by our state ministry for education and she got the call yesterday that she is one of the few that will participate (there were loads more Germans than Canadians who wanted to take part). She will be there for the whole September and October and return in the beginning of November. She will go to highschool there (she's sixteen). I think the Canadian girl will stay with my family sometime next year.

I want to help her with packing and shopping for the trip, she's not really into clothes or fashion (but who doesn't like to look good?).

Do you have any tips? Anything she really needs to take with her? And how do people her age dress, for school and for free time? Thanks.
